Chapter 1: Last Chance

Chapter Text

Briiiiiinggg!

The school bell rang, as everyone sighed and shuffled their way out of the classroom with a slight bow and a polite goodbye to Aizawa.

Midoriya stayed behind, as always, asking a question to Aizawa. Tch, teacher's pet.

"Thank you, Aizawa sensei," he chirped, bowing.

Aizawa nodded. "See you tomorrow, Midoriya-san."

Bakugo scoffed, shoving some paper into his bag. He made his way to the door.

"Bakugo-san."

Bakugo rolled his eyes, turning to Aizawa.

"What is it?"

Aizawa met him with a cold glare. "Watch your tone." Bakugo let out a small scoff. "You weren't paying attention today in class."

He let out another tch. "And what do you care?"

He glared back at Bakugo. "I told you to watch your tone."

He kicked one foot over the other as he sat down in his chair. "Bakugo-san, I'm your teacher. My job is to teach. But if you keep disrespecting both me and your education," he sighed. "It's not going to end well for you."

Bakugo sat there. What do I care? He wanted to shoot, but thankfully bit it down.

"Your behavior and grades are increasingly unacceptable, lately. Not that they've ever been ideal." He sighed. "I just don't feel that you're living up to your full potential."

Bakugo looked up at the ceiling, irritated.

"I'll let you go now. But think on what I said. Have a good weekend."

Bakugo nodded his head, bowing it ever-so-slightly. He grabbed his bag and made his way out of the classroom.

"Hey, Katsuki-san!"

Bakugo's eyes flickered up accusingly at the voice. He locked eyes on Midoriya, who was waving him over.

"What is it, dumbass?" he growled. "What do you want?"

Midoriya smiled back. The fucking dumbass doesn't know how to read a room, huh? Bakugo mentally rolled his eyes.

"I'm Midoriya Izuku," he smiled. "Remember me from when we were younger?"

Bakugo scoffed, rolling his eyes. "No way in hell I'd remember a fuckhead like you."

That was a lie. Most things Bakugo said were. Truth is, despite them never being that close, Midoriya was the only one who was genuinely nice to Bakugo.

"What do you want?" He groaned.

Midoriya chuckled lightly. "I just wanted to say hi," he sheepishly rustled his hair, looking away, his face mildly flushed with embarrassment. "I overheard your conversation with Aizawa-sensei. I can help you with your work if you want!"

He looked Midoriya in the eyes. "Get out of the damn way, nerd," he snarled, pushing Midoriya out of the way. "Stay out of my fuckin' business."

Midoriya looked at Bakugo as he walked off, a slightly sad look on his face. He rolled his eyes, exhaled, and grabbed both backpack straps, as he ran after Bakugo.

When he caught up to the blond-haired boy, he had pulled out a cigarette, to Midoriya's surprise.

"What do you need that for?" he asked, sternly. "You know there's no smoking allowed at school."

"The fuck you gonna do?" Bakugo shot back, defensively. "It's my fucking choice. Screw off."

"I can't stop you from smoking," he admitted, defeatedly. "But I can report you for doing it on campus. So I strongly recommend you put it out."

Bakugo whipped his head around to face Izuku. "The fuck did you just say?" His eyes burned with rage. "Did you just fucking threaten me?"

Midoriya took a step back, sweating slightly as his face turned slightly red. "Uhh..."

"Take it back, you fucking nerd."

"I'm sorry!! I won't report you. But you really shouldn't do that."

Bakugo let out a small hiss-like noise before continuing to walk along. Midoriya hopped forward and picked up his pace to catch up with him again.

"So, Katsuki-san," he started. "I know you said you don't want help, but seriously," he laughed nervously. "You'd rather help from me than Tenya-san, believe me."

Bakugo rolled his eyes again. "I don't fucking need help from anybody."

Midoriya placed a hand on Bakugo's shoulder to keep him from storming away again, which he immediately took back, red-faced with embarrassment. "Trust me, you should. It's not like it can hurt..."

Bakugo snapped around once again. "Listen here, you fucking nerd," he barked. "I don't know who the fuck raised you, but if someone says to screw off, then you screw the fuck off. I said leave me the fuck alone, and I'm not gonna fuckin' ask again."

Midoriya stood back, startled. "Oh, okay then..."

Bakugo snorted and turned on his heel, walking away, his back slumped over.

"Hey Bakubabe," a voice called out. "How're you?"

Bakugo looked up to see a tall girl with darkish skin and curly pink hair. Ashido.

He'd known Ashido since the beginning of high school, although she was more of Kirishima's friend than his own.

She looked at him, eyes narrowing, bent over, hands on her hips. Her tie hung down as she looked him in the eyes, frowning.

"Buzz off."

"Oh, someone's in a bad mood~" A blond-haired boy with a black streak in his hair teased. He was on the shorter side, always had a pair of damn sunglasses on his head.

"You too, dunce face." He snapped back.

Bakugo had met Kirishima and Kaminari in their last year of middle school. He found himself closer to the two idiots than he would've liked, but oh well.

"What's the deal, Kat?" Kirishima nudged him. "Aizawa-sensei give you a lecture after class again?"

"Go screw yourself," he hissed. "Aizawa's a little bitch. No shit he gave me another lecture. It's not like it fucking changes anything."

Kirishima grumbled and snatched the cigarette from Bakugo's hand, extinguishing it and throwing it away.

"The fuck was that for?" he yelled.

"I thought you already got in trouble once for smoking at school." Kirishima crossed his arms. "C'mon, bro, don't be stupid."

Bakugo flipped Kirishima off. "I'll do whatever the fuck I want to."

Kirishima sighed exhaustedly and walked off. "Well, I tried."

Bakugo grabbed some food and sat down at the table with Ashido, Kaminari, and Kirishima. Hanta made his way over as well.

Bakugo met Hanta around the same time as Ashido. He was a tall, skinny guy with hair of an undetermined length; somewhere between chin-length and shoulder-length.

Bakugo looked around the cafeteria. He caught sight of a table near a window, where Iida, Yaoyorozu, Uraraka, Asui, Todoroki, and that damn idiot Midoriya were talking.

The stupid student council.

Bakugo scoffed and turned away, but his mind and eyes kept drifting back to Midoriya.

What the fuck is wrong with me?

"Hello, earth to Bakugo??"

Ashido called out, waving a hand in front of his eyes.

"Were you listening?"

As the two of them got in a silly argument over nothing, Bakugo's attention diverted.

He didn't see Midoriya stand up and approach him.

"Katsuki-san. Meet me in the library after school. Don't be late."

Bakugo looked up at Midoriya, who, with a sudden dash of boldness, had placed his hand on Bakugo's shoulder.

"The fuck do you want?"

"Aizawa-sensei talked to me," he said sternly. "He asked me to help you. So here I am. Don't take it for granted."

Midoriya's wave of confidence quickly subsided, and he ran off in an awkward rush.

"So," Kaminari teased, poking Bakugo. "I see someone has a study date now."

“I thought I told you to buzz off,” he snarled; yet it was somewhat less aggressive than usual.
