Work Text:
It was almost midnight and Cass couldn’t wait to get off the clock. The clock that she kept looking at the closer they got to midnight and could shut down and actually clean up for the morning crew. She had a love/hate relationship with that part. No customers, but hard work.
The door opened, and a woman walked in. She was about Cass’s height, long blonde hair so light that it was dazzling, with blue eyes one could drown in. she wore tight black capris and a thin, white tank top.
Cass was immediately taken with her, and damn near stumbled over her greeting before she caught herself.
“Welcome to Corona Pizzeria, how can…” Cass trailed off, as the woman came to a stop in front of the counter. It was cold enough in the pizzeria that the fact she wasn’t wearing a bra was distractingly obvious.
And Cass was incredibly gay. And distracted.
“I was afraid you were closed.”
“You’re just in time,” Cass assured her, keeping her eyes locked on the woman’s beautiful face as that was the safest place to look. Even if her eyes were the stuff dreams were made of.
“My sister and I wanted … Oh shit. Hold on.” She held up a finger, turning around and rushing out the door to her car.
Cass’s eyes fell to the woman’s ass and maybe it was her imagination but she couldn’t see any panty-lines. Figuratively, she slapped herself. Then literally, she did. Cass knew she was just feeling extra lonely since she and Raps had broken up, but that was no excuse.
Except this woman was kind of 100% her type.
“You okay over there?”
“Don’t start, Eugene.” She shot a dirty look towards the kitchen.
Eugene held up his hands, “Okay, okay. But I see you making googly eyes at the pretty lady with the headlights.”
“Eugene.”
“They’re high beams, Cass. But tit is a bit nipply.” Eugene made a face,” It. Nippy. In the restaurant.”
“I hate you.” She turned away from him, rubbing her face and imagining shoving him into the ovens to make herself feel better.
Luckily the hot customer was outside for that conversation, but she came rushing back in, high beams and all. She ruffled her fingers through her hair, “I’m sorry I just wanted to check because she’s expecting and her order is diabolical. So we want two large pizzas and a caesar salad.”
“How do you want it?” Cass asked, and she heard Eugene smack his head on something in the kitchen.
The woman blushed, “Uhm. Pepperoni with extra cheddar cheese on one. For the second, red bell peppers, hamburger and jalapenos because my sister is a maniac.”
“Nothing wrong with a little kick,” Cass winked.
“Jalapenos are for tacos. not pizza,” she replied, primly, and for some reason that was when Cass fell head over heels in love.
“Sort of like how bagels are a lie?” Cass asked, punching in the order and sending it back to Eugene.
The woman’s face lit up, “Yes, exactly! It looks like a donut, but most of the time they aren’t sweet and they never have the right texture or density. They’re donut-shaped and yet not donuts. Totally a lie.” She leaned over on the counter a bit, and Cass struggled to keep her eyes on her face, “You’re the first person I’ve met who understands that.”
“Elsa, are you on about bagels again?” Another woman’s voice said, and Cass looked behind Elsa to see a cute red-head coming in. She was wearing a flowy skirt and loose-fitting top that did a much better job of hiding her headlights, though it didn’t really hide her pregnancy.
Elsa pointed at Cass, “She understands, Anna!”
“Great, I’ll start planning the wedding.” Anna grinned and turned to Cass, “Is it too late to order something else?”
“Too late to add anything to the pizzas, but we can make changes to the salad or order something else,” Cass replied, glancing at the clock to make sure they did have time. Anna was cute, and if Elsa wasn’t in the room she’d probably be someone Cass would be interested in. She reminded her heavily of Raps.
But Elsa was like this magnet. Her smile was beautiful, her eyes enrapturing. As far as first impressions went Cass was utterly transfixed.
“Awesome.” Anna bounced on her heels, “So I always get the meatballs, and I’ve got a craving.”
“Wait, is that…” Eugene poked his head out, “Hey, Anna.”
“Hi Eugene.” Anna gave him a wave and waggled her eyebrows, “I’m craving your meatballs.”
Eugene gave her the finger guns, and disappeared into the kitchen. Cassandra blinked, “What just happened.”
“Oh we used to date,” Anna said.
“That was Eugene?” Elsa glanced at Anna, “I love Kristoff but why’d you let him go?”
“You’re gay, why do you care?”
Cass’s heart suddenly started doing flip flops.
“I know when a man is handsome,” Elsa pointed out.
“It didn’t really work out,” Anna shrugged. “Physical compatibility, hell yes. Personality, not so much. Kristoff and I vibe a lot better.”
Elsa poked her belly, “I’d hope so.”
Cass squinted up an eye, glancing back into the kitchen. Eugene? Handsome? Eugh! “Let me uhm, ring you up.”
“Thanks!” Anna nudged her sister with her shoulder as she stepped up to the counter, “Move over, I’ve got this.”
Elsa rolled her eyes, but stepped back, and Cass couldn’t look at Anna without seeing Elsa out of her periphery, high beams and all.
“Do you guys always keep it this cold?” Anna asked, handing over some cash.
“We have to fight the ovens, and Eugene is a heater himself,” Cass explained. Red tinged her cheeks, “Though it's set a bit high today.”
“I hadn’t noticed,” Elsa commented and somehow Cass actually believed her.
Anna practically swiveled her head towards her sister like the exorcist, “Elsa sweetie, I can see your nips.”
Elsa looked down, her face turned as red as Anna’s hair, and she wrapped her arms around her chest, “Oh my god…”
“I…I hadn’t noticed,” Cass lied, voice strained as she desperately tried not to make Elsa feel any more embarrassed.
Anna looked her over and grinned, “You know, your cute little uniform would look great on her bedroom floor.”
“Anna!” Elsa gaped at her, then turned and hurried out the door.
“She spent thirty seconds gushing about the cute person at the counter before she even got to double checking our order.”
“Did… did she?” Cass realized there was more than just money in her hand; there was a slip of paper with a phone number on it. She palmed that and then counted out Anna’s change.
Eugene showed up with the food just then, sparing Cass from any further awkward conversation. She took it from him, and handed it off to Anna - catching that Eugene had written her name and number on one of the boxes. She whirled to stare at him, and he flashed a grin and thumbs up at her.
Cass turned back to Anna, but the redhead had already made for the exit, and then with a jingle of the bell, was gone.
“Eugene, what the actual f-”
“That went better than I expected,” Eugene said, a thoughtful look on his face. “Granted, nipplegate wasn’t part of the plan, but I’m sure you didn’t mind.”
“You set me up,” Cass realized.
“Anna’s been trying to get Elsa to hook up with someone for months!” Eugene laughed, “Plus, I’m pretty sure that she needs a date for Anna’s wedding.”
He clapped her on the back, “You’d actually look pretty damn good in a suit or tux.”
Cass’s phone beeped, and she pulled it out to see a waiting text message. The number matched the paper Anna had given her.
The only plans I have this weekend are killing my sister. But do you want to get together after?
Cass replied Like a date?
Yes
She stared at the response for a moment, before asking, “Eugene?”
“Yeah?”
“Don’t take this the wrong way.” She pulled him in and kissed him full on the mouth.
He stared at her, then scrunched up his face, “We never speak of this. Ever. For as long as we live. But you’re welcome.”
“Agreed.” Cass had never felt so unclean in her life.
“There’s mouth wash in the employee bathroom.”
Cass immediately rushed for the bathroom, and after gargling she whipped out her phone and replied to Elsa.
I’d love to.
Her phone buzzed again, and she realized that Elsa had sent her a picture, smiling into the camera. Cass laughed when she realized the angle had been carefully arranged so as to avoid any further nipple related incidents.
She set that as Elsa’s contact picture and then hugged her phone to her chest. She couldn’t wait to tell Raps about this.
