“Yuuri?”
Yuuri sighed as he turned slightly, looking over his shoulder. It was a rare off-day, but Yuuri had woken up with his damn internal clock and hadn’t been able to fall back asleep.
When he’d gotten up, the apartment was cast in a navy blue glow, long shadows against the wall and floor. Now, everything had a slight gray tinge to it, and Yuuri knew snow was coming soon, just as it had every beginning of November for the last 2 years.
“Yeah?” he called back, waiting for the familiar sound of Viktor’s feet on the hardwood as he shuffled toward the living room.
“Yuuriiiii!” Viktor called again, and Yuuri could practically hear the dramatic shiver in his voice.
“What??”
“Come hereee.” he whined from the doorway, and Yuuri rolled his eyes. “No, come in here. I’m busy.” he sighed, switching to a new tab on his laptop. He’d wanted to look over his latest routine,
“Off day, get off YouTube.” Viktor grumbled, stepping over Makkachin and into the living room.
One obnoxiously loud Viktor yawn later, and Yuuri felt arms around his neck.
“Just one more?” Yuuri asked softly, letting Viktor rock him slightly. “It’s so early and it’s so cold.”
“Please?”
“No. It’s a rest day. You deserve to sleep in. Coach’s orders.” Viktor mumbled, pressing a gentle kiss to his temple. “Why are you awake moya zvezda?”
Yuuri shrugged, maybe it was the piles of unexplainable anxiety that sat in his nerves, or maybe it was just his tendency to be a night owl kicking him in the ass. Whatever it was, he had only maybe fallen asleep long enough to beat the initial tiredness out of his system. Yuuri fiddled with his ring as he searched for an answer.
“Nerves?”
“For what?”
Yuuri shrugged again. “I dunno…”
Viktor sighed, running his fingers through Yuuri’s hair gently. “Do you wanna come back to sleep? Or just to the bedroom?”
Yuuri shook his head, switching to another tab. “I wanna finish this.”
“Finish…
what,
exactly?” Viktor asked, resting his chin on the top of Yuuri’s head. “Reworking my programs to add in as many points as possible. If I flub a jump, I should-”
Viktor sighed again, lifting his head and rubbing his eyes. “That’s a lot to do on your own, Yuuri.”
Yuuri shrugged, typing something in the doc that was on his computer. “It’s alright.”
“Take a break.
It’s our off day
.”
“I know but Vity-” Yuuri started but Viktor cut him off. “Off day. No watching old programs, rest.”
Yuuri groaned, leaning back and felt a comforter slide over his head. “What are you doing?” he asked, opening his eyes to the dark gray that surrounded him.
“Making sure you’re warm too.” Viktor giggled, climbing over the back of the couch and pulling Yuuri close to his chest. “You’re freezing! Why didn’t you use a blanket from the bed?” Viktor asked softly, closing Yuuri’s laptop and placing it on the coffee table. He leaned back and pulled Yuuri with him, groaning as his joints popped loudly.
“I didn’t want to wake you up.”
“It would have been alright,” Viktor protested, his arms wrapping around Yuuri’s shoulders. “I might have been able to convince you to stay in bed longer instead of moving to the couch.”
Yuuri hummed, pulling at a corner of the comforter that wasn’t covering him. “I still would have moved.”
Viktor chuckled, rubbing Yuuri’s arm slowly. “You’re gonna catch a cold if you keep freezing yourself like this.”
“I won’t."
Viktor whined, leaning his head back and closing his eyes. “It’s so cold…” he grumbled and Yuuri snorted, “Even with me here?”
“Yes!” Viktor laughed, adding in a shiver. "Don't be a Scrooge and turn the heat up.” Yuuri joked, reaching a hand back and laughing as Viktor tried to get away from his fingers that undoubtedly were like ice. "You're so mean, Yuuri!" Viktor whined, struggling to get away from Yuuri's hands.
“Well,” Yuuri said softly, letting Viktor bring his legs up onto the couch, “I’ll have to see if a kiss would warm you up.”
Yuuri shifted slightly and kissed Viktor’s chin gently, slightly scratchy from the stubble that was there. “You need to shave,” Yuuri said softly, pressing a kiss to his jaw. “You’re all prickly.” he added between another kiss to his jaw.
“You love it.” Viktor mumbled, shivering slightly. “I do,” he admitted, pressing another kiss to Viktor’s jaw. “Come here I can’t reach.”
Viktor shifted slightly, his feet now hanging over the arm of the couch. “Is this better?” he asked, settling Yuuri’s chest against his. Yuuri hummed, pressing a soft kiss to the corner of Viktor’s mouth. “Yes.”
He hummed, lifting his head to let Yuuri kiss his cheek. “How about now?”
“Mmhm.”
Yuuri pressed another few kisses around Viktor’s face lazily, feeling his eyes grow heavy.
“Viktor?” he said softly after a few minutes, shuffling down slightly and resting his head on Viktor’s collarbones.
“Hm?”
“I love you”
“Mph” he hummed sleepily, wrapping the comforter around him tighter. “Love you.” he responded sleepily after a few moments, his eyes staying closed. Yuuri reached a hand up to tilt Viktor’s head and kiss him softly. He smiled when he heard Viktor’s sleepy hum. He pulled away, lifting the other hand to run his index finger down the bridge of Viktor’s nose.
Viktor sighed contentedly, slipping down further into his mountain of pillows (why they even had so many was beyond him) and comforter.
“Viktor! You’re gonna suffocate me!” Yuuri yelped, kicking his feet lightly. Viktor smiled softly, pulling Yuuri down with him.
“Mph.”
“Vitya!!”
Viktor fake snored, holding Yuuri down gently against his chest. “Sleeep.” he hummed, letting his arms slide down to Yuuri’s waist.
“Sleep on the couch with you? My husband that I married 5 months ago? Who I love dearly and would never say no to?”
“No, with Chihoko, Yuuri.”
“Who even is that??”
Viktor rolled his eyes, giving Yuuri’s waist a gentle squeeze. “No one. Just sleep. You deserve it, krasivyy.”
Yuuri turned his head again, blinking against the light that had started to come through the windows.
“Oh…”
“Hm?”
“It’s snowing.”
Viktor turned slightly, just enough to peer out of his new hidey hole and look at the window. “Oh!”
Makkachin looked up from her bed, sighing softly as the flakes fell lazily past the glass, casting small shadows in the slight sunlight.
“It’s pretty.” Yuuri yawned, feeling Makkachin’s wet nose on the bottom of his foot.
“Not as pretty as you. You’re much better than snow…” Viktor said softly, leaning down and pressing a kiss to the tip of Yuuri’s nose. “Ugh, you sap.” Yuuri teased,
“You need sleep, my love.” Viktor sighed, closing his eyes again and tugging a section of the comforter that had fallen off of them.
“We should take Makka on a w.a.l.k,” Yuuri yawned, “I love when the city is quiet because it’s snowing.”
“Mm, definitely later… Idti spatʹ.” Viktor mumbled and Yuuri nodded, “Yeah, yeah. I will. Don’t worry.”
“No computer.”
“Yes, mom.”
Yuuri snorted, knowing Viktor was already asleep. Makkachin whined, putting a paw on a free space on the cushion and Yuuri smiled, patting it gently. “Up, girl. Come on Makka.” he whispered, helping pull the dog onto the couch. Viktor grumbled in his sleep as Makkachin settled in the empty space by his shin, yawning wide as she rested her chin there with a small grunt.
“I hope you’re warm now, you blanket hog.” Yuuri sighed, closing his eyes. Makkachin lifted her head and stared at him, sniffing the air for a scratch behind the ears. “You’re lucky you’re cute, dog...” Yuuri grumbled, shifting off Viktor’s chest and reaching down to give the best girl pets.
“Makkachin, come here girl.” Viktor called softly, and Yuuri jumped as his arm looped around his shoulders. “Did I wake you?” Yuuri asked quickly, fixing the blanket as Makkachin stood and laid down on Viktor’s stomach.
“No, Makkachin did but you’re still awake.”
Yuuri sighed, resting his temple on Viktor’s shoulder. “Chto ne tak, lyubovʹ moya?” Viktor asked in soft Russian, his voice slightly rough. Yuuri sighed, attempting to get his thoughts together from the beginnings of his anxiety spiral.
“Am I doing enough?” Yuuri asked, playing with a wrinkle in Viktor’s shirt. “What do you mean?” Viktor asked, and Yuuri shrugged again. “I feel like I’m not doing enough... for you. And that you’ll leave.”
Viktor stayed quiet for a moment before running his fingers down Yuuri’s spine gently. He shivered as Viktor shook his head. “You’re doing just fine, my Yuuri. I don't want to leave, I certainly don't want you to leave."
“Some days, I can’t believe I’m here.” Yuuri sighed again, tugging the comforter over his shoulder, thankful that Viktor had been laying in it. He shivered as it warmed him slightly.
“Me too…” Viktor whispered, tucking a strand of hair behind Yuuri’s ear gently. “I’m glad you are.”
Yuuri smiled, closed his eyes again, and scooted closer to Viktor, hugging him close. “I wouldn’t change a thing.”
Yuuri nodded, lifting a hand to rest it on Viktor’s cheek. He smiled, making patterns with his pinky on Yuuri’s hip. “I hope you know just how much I adore you. Every single day.” he said softly, pressing a kiss to Yuuri’s forehead. “I get to wake up next to you. And then when we go to bed, I can listen to you talk for hours about whatever it is you’re talking about.”
Yuuri smiled softly, closing his eyes as they started to burn.
With tears or from being tired, he didn’t know but he’d rather not find out.
“Hey, you okay?” Viktor asked, turning onto his side and displacing Makkachin. Yuuri nodded as Makkachin snorted, “Tired?”
“Mmhm.”
“Are you warm now?” Yuuri asked softly, opening his eyes. Viktor nodded, pouting slightly. “What’s wrong?”
“Potseluy menya?” he asked quietly, pinky stopping its slow path along Yuuri’s hip. He snorted, leaning down and pressing another kiss to Viktor’s lips, sighing softly into it.
Viktor pulled away after a minute, hand now fully resting on Yuuri’s hip, and pressed his forehead onto Yuuri’s.
“Sleep.”
Yuuri didn’t protest that, letting his eyes stay closed as Viktor shifted them into a more comfortable position.
“So later, we go for breakfast? And a w.a.l.k with Makkachin and then the p.a.r.k?”
Yuuri nodded slowly, letting himself finally be lulled to sleep by Viktor’s voice.
