Jimmy bites his lip, wringing his hands in anticipation. The tournament was going to begin any moment now and Grian still hadn't shown up.
Scar doesn't seem worried, sitting on the stands and kicking his legs as they wait. They were waiting for Grian and Scott, though Scott was within sight so he wasn't too worried about him. Grian, however, hadn't gotten to the server yet.
He sits down then stands back up, running a hand through his hair. It gets caught in the headband. He pulls it off and stares at the red rabbit ears. He pokes it with a grimace.
He puts them back on as Scar clears his throat, "You alright there, TJ?"
Jimmy smiles, it's a bit forced but it seems to convince Scar, "Yeah, I'm all good."
He gives a thumbs up. Scar nods, looking towards the server portal, specifically the contestant portal. Jimmy looks over in time to see it sparkle and two people step out. His breath catches in his throat.
He sits down, "Scar, am I going crazy or…?"
Scar grins, "Nope, not crazy!"
Grian and Tango turn to look in their direction when Scar shouts out a greeting. Scott looks over at him, pulling off his rabbit ears and heading over to Grian and Tango, giving them both a warm welcome.
Jimmy watches, still frozen with his mouth open as Scott puts the rabbit ears on Tango. He snaps out of it when Tango meets his eyes. He jerks up, standing and tripping in his rush. He scrambles back up and runs towards them, throwing himself into Tango's arms.
Tango laughs as they tumble to the ground. "Tango!"
"Buddy!"
Grian laughs at them, Scott smirking. Scar hurries over, adjusting his oxygen tube with a grin.
Jimmy stands and helps Tango with a nervous grin. Scar grabs Grian's wrist and tugs him in the direction of the burger van. Scott smiles, "Tango will be taking my place this MCC. Have fun!"
Jimmy scratches his neck. "Um, I-"
Tango cuts him off, "How have you been! I've missed hanging out at the ranch!"
Jimmy blinks, "Oh, uh, ya know. Um. Sheriff things, uh I've been good!"
Tango grins, grabbing his wrist and pulling him after Scar and Grian. "Come on, let's get a bite before the tournament!"
Jimmy follows, feeling somewhat dizzy, was Tango not mad? Halfway there he stops, making Tango halt and stumble a bit.
Jimmy winces, "Look, Tango, I just, uh-" Tango looks at him curiously, his red glasses not stopping Jimmy from seeing the confusion in his eyes.
Jimmy swallows, tugging his wrist out of Tango's grip.
"Oh! I'm sorry, I didn't know you, uh sorry." Jimmy winces, "No! No, that's not it! I just- I'm sorry!"
Tango tilts his head to the side in confusion, "Huh?"
Jimmy hides his face in his hands, "Double Life! I-I got us killed!"
Tango blinks, "I don't blame you. We had fun, that's what matters," he says gently, pulling Jimmy's hands away from his face. He holds them in his own firmly, "Death was inevitable, that's the whole point in the Games."
Jimmy looks away, "Yeah, but-"
"Nope! No buts! Let's get burgers!"
Jimmy nods sheepishly and lets Tango drag him all the way this time.
They didn't win MCC, but they had fun.
Back at the portal, Tango gives Jimmy a pat on the back, "Guess this is where we say goodbye."
Jimmy sighs, giving Tango a weak smile, "I guess so, I'll see you around?"
Tango nods, giving him a matching smile. Grian snorts and shoves Jimmy at Tango, "Just hug already, jeez!" Grian hops through the portal, pulling Scar in with him.
Tango laughs, opening his arms and Jimmy gives him a hug.
"Till next time," Jimmy says, pulling away and into the portal. Tango waves and that's the last thing Jimmy sees before waking up in his bed on Empires.
He sits up and smiles. "Until next time."
