Work Text:
It was extremely hot outside. Furthermore, it was extremely hot inside too. The air conditioning unit inside of Jujutsu Tech had conveniently decided to break down in the middle of a heat wave, causing an uproar amongst the students. They’d all gathered in the lounge, drenched in sweat and awaiting a supposed “huge announcement” from Gojo. Windows were open to catch the wind, and electric fans were blasting in an attempt to cool them down.
Yuuji was sat on the couch in the middle of Maki and Megumi, fanning himself with a magazine featuring Jennifer Lawrence, while Nobara laid across his lap, scrolling on her phone with her feet across Maki. Megumi was reading silently, leaning his head gently against Yuuji’s shoulder. Toge and Panda were spread out on the floor, trying to cool themselves on the wood as they stared up at the slowly turning fan above them.
“Good news everyone! We’re going swimming!” Gojo exclaimed while bursting through the door to the lounge flamboyantly, effectively startling the students and bringing the attention to himself. He was dressed in a button-down lazily open, exposing his toned figure, with pink bathing suit bottoms, and a pair of brown sandals. His usual blindfold was replaced with round sunglasses halfway down his nose, and his arms were up in the air. Megumi openly muttered something along the lines of “you look really slutty” before getting cut off by an excited Yuuji.
“We have a pool?!” Yuuji exclaimed, standing up from his seat on the couch, knocking Nobara onto the ground with a yelp. She quickly recovered and stood up next to Yuuji, a deathly look across her face.
“You’re telling me we’ve had a pool this whole time and nobody said anything?!” Nobara yelled. gojo laughed, hands resting on his hips while a smile rested comfortably on his face at their shocked expressions. “I could’ve been tanning!”
“It’s usually used for training, but we may have pulled a few strings.” Y/n chimed in, a bright smile on her face as she entered the room with Ijichi following behind her like a lost puppy. The female sorcerer wore a simple light yellow bikini with flowers on it, a pair of jean shorts, and a pair of sunglasses rested on top of her head. Her closest friend from childhood hid behind her, white button-down fully buttoned over his light blue swim shorts. It was the most color any the students had seen him in. It was also the most casual outfit they’d ever seen him in.
“Did Principal Yaga even agree to-“
“Who cares! Pool day!” Yuuji exclaimed, cutting Maki off, and running off to his room to change. Nobara followed shortly after with an excited “YEAH!”.
The rest of the students hurried to change as well, even a slightly reluctant Maki who had to be dragged off the couch by Panda and Toge.
“Did Principal Yaga agree to this?” Ijichi asked, arms hugged around himself insecurely. “He won’t yell at me again right?”
“I mean,” gojo dragged out, thinking for a moment. “He didn’t say not to use the pool.”
Ijichi gulped and Y/n offered him a lazy smile. She wrapped her arm around his shoulders, shaking him a bit.
“Let loose for a while Kiyo! You deserve the break!” He sighed and blushed from embarrassment at her use of his name in front of Gojo, but smiled lightly anyway.
After convincing Ijichi to go with Gojo to grab a cooler of drinks and a few towels, Y/n made her way outside admiring the beautiful wave of the sakura blossoms in the wind. She bent down, feeling the temperature of the water with her fingertips, smiling at how cool it felt compared to the heat outside.
She moved to setting up the table umbrellas outside, popping the last one open and covering her in a cool shade. She sighed from relief of the heat, looking down at her phone on the table which buzzed with a notification of some social media she owned. She ignored it, however, finding herself staring at the time. 11:13. She looked back at the door to the school, a frown slowly taking over her features. Nanami still wasn’t here.
Beforehand, she and Gojo had begged Nanami to come over the phone. He had work off that day, and Y/n knew that he would probably be sitting home alone all day still thinking about his work and earning more money. They thought they’d convinced him, high-fiving after they heard him say “I’ll think about it” before hanging up. After asking for an exact time over text, Y/n told Nanami to be there by 11:30, though, she was beginning to think he wasn’t going to show up at all. No. He could still make it. He had plenty of time!
“Everything okay?” A voice asked from behind her. She turned around and met eyes with Ijichi, who placed the mountain of towels on the table beside her phone. She hadn’t even realized they’d come back, too lost in her thoughts. Y/n sighed and looked to the ground biting her lip.
“Do you think Nanami will show?” She asked honestly. Y/n didn’t know why she felt so disappointed at the thought of him not coming. She was just concerned for his well-being, that was all. She’d felt the same when Ijichi refused the first time! Well, not exactly. This feeling was worse.
At her question, Ijichi’s expression turned to one of slight shock. If Gojo had asked, the answer was debatable, but if she had asked? There was no doubt in his mind that Nanami wouldn’t be able to say no to the offer. I mean-it was obvious. was it not? Ijichi hadn’t seen him look at someone like that ever before.
“He’s always on time.” He replied with a genuine smile as if he knew something she didn’t. Y/n couldn’t help but return the gesture, happy to finally see a smile on his face. She was about to say something along the lines of “thank you”, until a loud noise interrupted her.
“CANNONBALL!”
The sound of water splashing brought her out of her thoughts. she turned to see the students all walking out, along with Yuuji, the source of the splash, popping out from the water with his arms up.
“Pool day!” He yelled, causing Y/n to laugh and promise herself to enjoy her day even if Nanami didn’t show up. Though, in the back of her head, she knew she’d be thinking of him the whole time.
“Hey! Wait for me, Idiot!” Nobara ran after him, almost landing on top of him in the pool. Ijichi’s breath hitched at the sight, the panic and parental instinct washing over him. He rushed over to the group to reprimand them about running by the pool.
“Slip-and-Fall injuries are more common than you think! Careful-don’t run!” Ijichi desperately yelled, practically pulling out his hair.
“Come on L/n-sensei!” She heard Yuuji yell from the pool, followed by Nobara cheering for her. Y/n’s jaw dropped a bit until it curved into a smile. She spared a look toward Ijichi across the pool who was staring at her with a deathly look on his face as if warning her “don’t you dare.” She shrugged and smiled, running and jumping into the pool with a yell. She felt a bit bad for teasing the man who’s priority was keeping them safe, but then again, it was supposed to be his day off.
“Not without me!” Panda yelled, darting to the pool’s edge after Y/n despite Yuuji and Nobara’s yells. Y/n resurfaced and smiled at the sight of the excited second years.
“Salmon!” Toge exclaimed, running beside Panda toward the pool. He had finally felt safe and comfortable enough in the secluded area to take off his face covering, leaving him shirtless with swim trunks on. Panda was, well, Panda. The two jumped in together, holding hands, and created a huge splash that soaked Ijichi who had been, unfortunately, standing right beside the pool. He sighed deeply and took off his glasses, trying to find a dry spot on his shirt to clean them on.
The second years came up and Panda shook out his fur, droplets of water flying everywhere to everyone’s dismay. Maki found a seat perfectly in the sun’s direction where she applied tanning oil and laid back to take a nap. Megumi, refusing to get in fully, sat on the edge of the pool, rolling up his jeans to his knees to dip his feet in. He had a cold drink in his hand, enjoying watching everyone. He felt himself smile at his friends in the middle of a splashing fight, and even let out a snort when he saw Nobara tackle Yuuji into the water.
After a little while, Yuuji and Nobara had gotten into a conversation with Megumi, occasionally splashing him, while Toge and Panda tried to convince Maki to get in. They pulled on her arms like they’d done to get her off the couch, but she wasn’t budging, so Panda decided to shake out the water from his fur all over her, getting a little giggle from Toge. She yelled, running after them as they jumped back into the pool. She sighed and thought for a moment before sitting on the edge of the pool and dropping in, deciding to swim after Panda.
Gojo laughed at the interaction, and was about to jump in himself when he noticed Y/n jump out of the pool, sitting on the edge with her phone in her hand. Her eyes were glued to the door, occasionally staring down at her phone. He sighed deeply, knowing exactly what had her so distracted.
Gojo bent down, head appearing in front of her face. She looked at him, sending a glare his way before pushing his forehead back up. He laughed and took a seat next to her, leaning back on his palms.
“Why are you here all alone? Don’t you wanna join in on all the fun?” He asked, tilting his glasses down. She finally broke away her longing gaze at the door and looked at him, sighing at the stupid expression on his face. “It was your idea after all.”
“Just…feeling a bit sick. Can get overwhelming i guess.” Gojo’s smile dropped a bit when he watched her look back to the door, facing away from him. It was a lame excuse.
“If I were you, I’d come up with a better excuse than ‘just feeling a bit sick’.” Gojo jokingly mocked, lightening his voice when doing an impression of her. Y/n tried to contain her smile, pushing him and rolling her eyes. After a few moments of silence, Gojo spoke up, a serious tone in his voice. “Is this about nanami?”
She whipped her head back around to him, her cheeks rapidly gaining heat. She opened her mouth to deny his accusations, but she realized that maybe she didn’t need to lie to him. He didn’t seem to hold any judgement about the situation. She took a deep breath, biting her lip and looking back down to her phone screen which presented her text conversation with the man in question along with the current time. 11:28. Two minutes left.
“It-yes,” Y/n confessed, noticing Gojo’s smile brighten out of the corner of her eye. Well, shit: She was in for a whole lot of teasing. “He just works so much and on his one day off, he’s probably at home still thinking about work!”
“Worried about him, huh?” Gojo beamed, icy blue eyes catching the light just perfectly to where they sparkled. It slightly annoyed Y/n how cocky he was being.
“You’re not?” She decided to reply, throwing her legs out of the water and onto the concrete, standing up and trying to escape the awkward conversation. To her dismay, however, Gojo followed her. She tried to block out his questions as she walked over to the cooler, which happened to give her a better view of the door.
“Hey, he’ll show up, okay?” Gojo reassured, a hand darting up to her bicep to stop her from walking. She looked at him and almost saw sincerity in his eyes until he reached up and tilted his sunglasses down a bit to meet her gaze suggestively. “Nanami always comes. Especially for you.”
Y/n scoffed and sent a glare toward Gojo, muttering a “gross” and ripping her arm away. He laughed at himself and leaned against the table next to her as she bent down and searched through the drinks for a water. He crossed his arms over his chest, gaze lingering at the door when he spotted a familiar head of blond hair.
“Speaking of coming, looks like Mr. 9 to 5 did decide show up after all,” Gojo teased, nodding his head toward the door once Y/n stood up. She turned around and almost dropped the bottle from her hand. Her eyes widened and she felt her jaw quite literally drop.
Of course, Y/n knew he was muscular. With a technique like his, the sorcerer had to have at least a little muscle on him, though, Y/n never realized how muscular he was. He looked simply angelic walking over to them, sweat glistening on his chest, effectively accentuating his defined abdominal muscles. The sun reflected off of his toned arms so beautifully, Y/n couldn’t look away. she gulped, squeezing the bottle of water so tightly she thought it might burst.
“Damn. Is it just me or does it seem like you really wanna offer to oil him up with sunscreen?” Gojo muttered, leaning over her shoulder by her ear. “Careful, I think you’re drooling.”
“Shut up Satoru!”
The sight was breathtaking. So much so that even the students paused their bickering to spare him a glance. He wore nothing but dark blue swim shorts, hung lowly on his hips. Y/n couldn’t help but admire the small patches of hair on his torso, more notably on his chest and the darker happy trail in the middle of the v line of his hips.
His hair was still slicked back, though a few pieces fell in front of his face, even though he tried to fix them with his hand, confirming that he hadn’t gelled it like he normally did. He had a towel slung over his shoulder, and held a worn book in his hand. Y/n wasn’t sure if he was trying to look as good as he did, but it definitely worked. She took a deep breath, taking a long sip of the cold water to try and cool her extremely red cheeks.
“Nanamin! You made it!” Yuuji exclaimed from the pool, currently getting his head shoved under the water by Nobara who sent him a friendly wave. The other students greeted him briefly before turning their attention back among themselves. Clearly, they were blind. Why wasn’t this a big deal to anyone else? Y/n was practically melting!
“Looks like you’re taking the “hot professor” aesthetic to the extreme, Nanamin.” Gojo joked once Nanami joined up with them, earning a slightly annoyed look from the latter. Gojo’s eyes darted between the two obviously-in-love individuals, sending a wink to Nanami who ignored him completely. “Good to see you!”
With that, Gojo ran over to Ijichi, and forced him up from the comfortable lounging position he’d taken, before tugging him over to the pool’s edge. Ijichi panicked, refusing Gojo’s offer to jump in with him. His face was dusted with a pink sheen, flustered from feeling so exposed. With the students cheering him on and Gojo’s begging, Ijichi finally gave in and unbuttoned his top, allowing himself to get dragged into the water as Gojo jumped in holding his wrist.
Y/n smiled at her coworkers, happy to see Ijichi let go a bit around the kids. She would love to go and mess with him, joining in on the fun once again, though, there was time for that later. All she wanted to do then was talk to the man she was longing to see the entire day. She quickly and awkwardly put down the water bottle she’d been holding, clearing her throat.
“I was starting to think you weren’t going to come, Kento.” She said, smiling brightly his way. at the beginning of their friendship, Y/n would usually call him by his first name as a way to tease him, but recently, it started to slip off her tongue normally. As if she actually started to like the way it sounded. To be completely honest, Nanami didn’t mind it either. “You’re late!”
“I’m on time,” He said presenting his watch to her that read 11:30 exactly. She grabbed his wrist to look closer at the time with wide eyes, shocked that he’d actually made it exactly on time. Nanami tore his eyes away from her, glancing over to the students, along with Gojo and Ijichi, laughing and messing around in the pool. He wasn’t sure if he was ready to get that out of his comfort zone.
“Y/n! Come jump in with me!” Yuuji exclaimed, coming out of the water and running over to her. She pulled away from Nanami, dropping his wrist and smiling at Yuuji. She happily took his outstretched hand in hers, sending one last fleeting glance to Nanami, who swore the flush on her cheeks wasn’t a developing sunburn.
“I’m glad you made it,” She muttered quickly. Nanami felt a hefty jolt in his chest, watching as Y/n jumped into the water with Yuuji, a scream falling from her lips. She joined the group when she came up from the water, effectively adding to the growing chaos.
As Nanami sat down in the shade, one leg crossed over the other, he thought about the feeling he’d had just then. He almost wanted to smile, something he hadn’t done in ages. Though, around her, it seemed almost impossible not to. He hid behind his book to cover the growing blush on his face. It certainly wasn’t easy to make a man like Nanami Kento smile, let alone blush like a school girl. He hadn’t felt like this hardly at all in his life, and it scared him. He feared that this small “crush”, as Gojo called it, he’d developed could be turning into something more serious.
Nanami wasn’t sure he was ready to commit to someone as special as she was. He didn’t want to get too attached to her unless something tragic were to ever happen. Jujutsu sorcery as a career was extremely dangerous, and forming close bonds like many had already done was simply setting up a recipe for tragedy, disappointment, and heartbreak. But when Nanamk peeked over his book to look at the crowd, and saw Y/n’s smile, he came to the conclusion that none of that mattered. In that moment, at least, he was happy. Genuinely happy. He wasn’t simply pretending to fine like he normally would. He was happy. And he knew it was because of her.
“Hey Nanamin!” Y/n exclaimed, catching his eyes as she swam over to the edge of the pool and leaned her head on crossed arms. “Come in! It’s so hot outside you must be dying!”
“I’m perfectly content here,” Nanami replied, no ill-intent present in his tone. Usually the nickname sparked annoyance in him, but in that moment, Nanami wanted nothing more than to hear it a thousand times. That is, if she were
saying it. Y/n whined, giving him puppy-dog eyes in an attempt to convince him, but he only held up his book matter-a-factly and watched as she sighed.
“Fine. You’re safe for now. But I will find a way to get you in here Kento!”
Nanami simply shook his head at her request, looking back down to his book. He realized that he hadn’t actually been reading it, stuck on the same sentence for a few minutes. Suddenly, Gojo jumped up from the water right next to Y/n, making her jump and exclaim “What is wrong with you!”
“Let’s play chicken!” Gojo yelled, ducking under the water and lifting Y/n up onto his shoulders. The latter let out a yelp and clutched onto his head to keep herself balanced. She already saw Nobara jumping on Yuuji, pushing him down so she could climb on his shoulders. Yuuji lifted her up and his eyes widened when he noticed how much higher up y/n was than Nobara.
“Hey! Unfair! Gojo-sensei is-like-a giant!” Yuuji whined, gripping Nobara’s thighs to keep her steady as she hit his head yelling at him to get closer to their opponents.
“Who cares! You’re going down L/n-sensei!” Nobara yelled. Y/n laughed and leaned forward over Gojo’s head.
“Bring it Kugisaki!”
Y/n and Nobara connected arms, laughing and trying to force each other off their teammate’s shoulders. Nanami looked over, trying to contain a smile as he watched them have fun.
Y/n and Gojo truly were children at heart. Sometimes, they looked like an older version of Yuuji and Nobara. It gave Nanamk a warm feeling when watching how good she was with the kids. However, he forced himself to look away from her and back to his book, feeling as though he’d spend too much of his time staring at her. It made him feel a bit too nervous and sick to his stomach for his liking.
Y/n felt Gojo give a small squeeze to her thigh, presumably signaling to her to let Nobara win, to which she obliged. Y/n eased up her grip and let Nobara shove her, the former falling off of Gojo backwards with a scream.
The scream made Nanami jerk his gaze up from his book, lowering it a bit as his widened eyes searched for Y/n. Gojo noticed this out of the corner of his eye, watching in amusement at the way Nanami reacted so quickly.
once Y/n resurfaced, laughing and yelling playfully at Nobara, Nanami relaxed, leaning back in his chair and giving one more look toward her before looking back down to his book. Gojo looked between Y/n and Nanami with a mischievous smirk on his face before deciding to swim over to the girl and explain the plan forming in his mind.
Yuuji and Nobara, gloating their win, got into another chicken fight, this time with Panda and Toge. Y/n chuckled as she heard Yuuji exclaim an “are you kidding?!” at Panda’s height. She also caught sight of Maki and Megumi talking, Maki having joined him on the edge of the pool. Ijichi had joined the four playing chicken, deciding to be the referee for the game. Y/n smiled at the joy that was radiating from everyone, eyes darting over to where Nanami was sat.
He looked so peaceful, yet lonely. She wanted nothing more than to get out of the pool and forcefully hug him, then push him into the water with everyone, but she didn’t want to annoy him. He had dragged himself out on his day off instead of just declining the offer. Y/n shook her head, turning her attention back to Gojo who stared at her with a very Gojo-like smirk.
“How long can you hold your breath?”
Gojo’s plan was definitely evil. It hurt a bit to mess with Nanami so hard, but Y/n was also curious about whether or not he’d even react. She shook off her nervousness, however, as Gojo seemed incredibly convinced that it would work. She trusted his word, even though every other time she trusted his word, it didn’t seem to go the way he said it would.
Nevertheless, Y/n climbed up the stairs to the pool, gaining the attention of Nanami who totally hadn’t been watching her take each step, and totally didn’t stare at the way the water droplets slid down her muscles and dripped to the concrete.
She offered him a little wave while she walked by, stopping over by the cooler of drinks. She reached over, hands brushing the bottle of water she’d long forgotten about, when Gojo suddenly appeared behind her and grabbed her by the waist. She yelped and dropped her water, spilling the drink on the concrete as it hit the ground. He lifted her up and turned around, teleporting again, this time to the edge of the deep end of the pool, where he dropped her in with a smile. Y/n screamed, gaining the attention of everyone around them. After a few seconds of silence, and no sign of her, Nobara spoke up, still atop Yuuji’s shoulders.
“Uh, she’s not coming up,”
“OH MY GOD! SENSEI YOU KILLED
HER-!“ Yuuji yelled, throwing Nobara off of his shoulders into the pool, before he was cut off by another loud, splashing sound. Nobara resurfaced and was about to yell at Yuuji, but looked around and noticed the look on everyone’s faces.
The worn book had been thrown to the ground hastily, open to a page halfway through; blue beach towel crumpled on the ground beside it. Gojo stood by the edge with a smile, leaning over the water with his hands on his hips as he watched the two resurface, both gasping for air.
Nanami shook the wet hair out of his face, blond hair darkened and sticking to his forehead. His eyes were wide and alert, muscled arms holding tightly onto the shorter girl’s waist protectively. Her arms instinctively wrapped around his shoulders, leaning into his warm touch. He was about to speak up and ask if she was okay, until he noticed Y/n’s lips spread into a grin, pink blush beginning to blotch her cheeks. Nanami felt all other sounds in the world silence as he heard her quiet, teasing comment.
“Gotcha.”
“Wow! You didn’t even need to hold your breath for that long! What was that-five seconds?” Gojo exclaimed, looking at and nudging Ijichi beside him who nodded in agreement, a sigh of relief coming from him. The truth was that he incredibly concerned for your health, jumping out of the water and running over to see what had happened, though once he caught Gojo’s smirking frame, he knew everything was okay. Plus Nanami didn’t waste any time jumping in to save her.
followed by Gojo’s teasing was a loud “oooo!” from both Nobara and Yuuji and Panda and Toge, causing the two adults to blush intensely.
“Spicy cod roe.” Toge mumbled to Panda making him laugh loudly and nod along.
Nanami’s face was bright red. And he was more than aware that it wasn’t the sun that had given him it. He was also more than aware that the students were actively making fun of him. Even Inumaki Toge, who spoke only in rice ball ingredients, found a way to make jokes about him. What was he doing? Acting so rashly. No-Y/n was in danger! What if the irresponsible Gojo Satoru had actually injured her! He acted quickly and efficiently. Like any good and responsible jujutsu sorcerer would. He was just being considerate!
…Shit.
Nanami turned his head, regretfully meeting eyes with a smug-looking Gojo, leaning above him from the edge of the pool. He only smiled and tilted his sunglasses down, winking and nodding toward Nanami’s arms that were still wrapped protectively around Y/n. His hand was wrapped around the small of her back to support her in the water. He was about to pull away and apologize for his lack of professionalism, until he realized that she also still had her arms around him, and didn’t show any signs of pulling away anytime soon. Gojo walked away with a smiling Ijichi, an arm around the escort’s shoulders.
“I didn’t know you were such a knight in shining armor, Kento,” Y/n laughed lightheartedly. He could feel her warm breath against him from their proximity. Her warmth was intoxicating, and he wanted nothing more but to hold her closer, and maybe kiss the lips she always seemed to coat in chapstick.
No! He needed to stop. He couldn’t just kiss her. He wasn’t even sure if she felt the same. Even if she did, there was no way she was able to deal with his baggage. Although, did that even matter to him anymore when he finally had her in his grasp? Literally.
“I-I thought you were injured. The last thing I want is to see you injured on Gojo’s behalf,” Nanamk said, cursing himself internally for allowing himself to stumble on his words. something about Y/n made him feel things. Being with her made his heart soar. His heartbeat never failed to quicken and he’d feel his tie was tightened a bit too much.
He liked her. He liked her a lot. He felt like a completely different person around her. stumbling on his words, face flushing wildly at any interaction she had with him. He felt stupid holding her in his arms for so long, but he didn’t want to let her go. Maybe he didn’t mind looking a little stupid if it meant staying in that moment for a little longer.
Y/n smiled and leaned her head against his, feeling drops of water fall from her hairline and down her face at the contact. Her hands connected behind his neck and Nanami swore he could hear the butterflies in his stomach. Or, perhaps, it was the butterflies in hers.
“I’m sorry for messing with you. It was Gojo’s idea,” She laughed, remembering the detailed plan he’d described to her like it was a secret mission of some sort. “But at least now I know you wouldn’t waste a second to save me. I knew you cared, softie.”
“I’d never allow the people important to me to be in danger,” Nanami said, allowing himself to relax. The moment was intimate. It felt like they were the only ones there, and it was almost like they were. The others had decided to leave them alone to themselves, allowing them to have the moment together. “And you’re very important to me, Y/n.”
Y/n felt her cheeks darken in flush at the comment. She smiled at him taking in a deep breath and letting it out contently.
“Well, I hope you know that you’re just as important to me, Kento.”
The two were so close to one other. so close, in fact, that if either one of them were to tilt their heads up even the smallest bit, their lips would meet. The offer was more than tempting for Nanami. He finally came to a conclusion. Fuck it. Pool day!
“Y/n, I can’t help but feel an exceptional desire to kiss you right now,” Nanami confessed aloud, causing Y/n’s smile to drop a bit in shock, then come back larger than before. “Can I kiss you?”
The only coherent thing Y/n could get out was a “Kento-I-yes” before closing her eyes and leaning into his touch. His hand came up and cupped her cheek, encouraging her jaw to lean forward closer to him.
His lips met hers delicately, as if testing the waters, and making sure she was comfortable. Y/n threaded one of her hands up his neck and into the back portion of his messy, wet hair. He felt her smile into the kiss, and in return, he couldn’t help but smile a bit too.
When they pulled away, Y/n stared into his eyes with a loving gaze, her heart pumping out of her chest at a rapid rate. Nanami felt the same about himself, a little embarrassed at the amount of flush littering his cheeks. This time, however, he didn’t have his glasses to cover it up. Maybe he didn’t need to. He finally gave in and let himself smile at her. It was something he’d been holding back ever since he met her. Despite his embarrassment, he decided it was definitely worth it. His smile was absolutely stunning. It was probably the most genuine, real smile Y/n had ever seen. She’d kiss him a million times if it meant seeing him smile like that everyday.
“You have a beautiful smile. You should show it off more often,” Y/n breathed out, completely and helplessly down bad for the man in front of her. Nanami only felt his small, gentle smile widen, his ears beginning to flush red at the compliment. Nanami never really got compliments like that. The genuine ones that really held meaning. Not just random girls on the street asking for his number. It made him feel good. He realized that he wanted to hear them more often.
Suddenly loud laughter emitted from the man-child who appeared behind them again on the edge of the concrete, turning their attention to him. Before Nanami could yell at him, his feet left the edge and he jumped into the pool right next to them, creating a large splash that interrupted the moment. Nanami gently let go of Y/n, giving her one last peck on the lips before he swam over to Gojo, who’d just resurfaced with a mischievous smile.
“Gojo!”
Y/n leaned against the edge of the pool and laughed as she watched Nanami tackle Gojo under the water. She could see that his hard exterior was beginning to crack; a light shining through from beyond. Maybe nanami would allow himself to go a little off schedule for once. After all, a little overtime never hurt anyone.
