Work Text:
When Elinor said they were going to party, she knew she should have stayed home.
Elinor had a definite way of partying that was not Juliette’s thing. But, they had been on the outs lately and she wanted to please at least someone in her family.
So, she had acquiesced and here they were.
At some sleazy bar, five shots in and dancing like no one was watching.
Well that’s not true. They definitely had an admirer and that was exactly what Elinor had planned.
With a few whispers in his ear, Elinor returned and grabbed her arm and pushed her ahead of herself. “Keep walking. Don’t look back.”
Usually Juliette would have questioned such a thing, but she was pleasantly buzzed and they seemed to be leaving so who was she to interfere.
They walked out back, and the man followed. Elinor spun around and pulled him close. “You think you can handle us?” She asked.
The man nodded drunkenly and tried to pull her in even closer. Elinor just smirked, twisted his head to the side, and sank her teeth in.
After a few minutes she pulled away and offered him to Juliette.
She shook her head adamantly and pushed him away. But Elinor was not taking no for an answer. She thrust him forward, almost knocking Juliette over with the force of his body on hers.
“Come on, I know you’re hungry. Just a little taste.” She teased.
Normally Juliette would have pulled away again and left. But she was a bit drunk and the blood running down his neck looked so good. With one long swallow she twisted his neck as her sister had done and bit down.
His blood was bitter and bit stale to the taste and she almost pulled back. But, the strangest feeling of happiness engulfed her and she needed more. She drank and drank until in her haze she remembered he was a human and drinking too much could actually kill him.
She pushed him away violently. He fell to the ground, and she pause to listen for his heartbeat. Within seconds it was there, and she sighed in relief.
A giggle burst free from her and once she started, she couldn’t stop. The world seems to be twisting and turning like the mirror at a carnival. She giggled again and the sound seemed to float up and twist in the air.
She looked to her sister to see if she was feeling it to, and saw she was looking at her with an amused grin.
“That, my sweet little, is called ecstasy.” She said. Then, with a wink she disappeared.
Juliette spun in circles looking for her until the world gave way and she landed on her butt. That only caused her to laugh harder.
Her phone chimed and she pulled it out to see what the noise was. The colors danced and waved in front of her, but vaguely she could read a text from Cal.
Oh Calliope. The softest, prettiest, most confident human being she had ever met. Her heart soared just thinking about her.
She pressed a few buttons and soon enough her voice was echoing through the speakers. She just stared in awe at the sound, like angels singing.
“Jules? Jules, are you there?”
“Calliopeeee” Juliette drug out in joy as she pressed the phone to her face.
“Juliette are you okay?” Cal asked, concerned.
“Of course…I just wanted to hear your voice. Like angels” she cooed.
“Ummm…okay. Where are you?” Cal asked.
“A bar!” Juliette said. “But it’s a bad bar. Name after a stake. Who does that?”
“Okay, I need you to stay where you are and I’m coming to get you. Can you do that?”
“You’re coming?” Juliette asked with glee.
“Of course. I’ll be there soon okay. Just stay put.” Cal commanded.
“Sir yes sir,” Juliette saluted.
The voice was gone all too soon and so was the thought that Cal would be there soon. Juliette got lost in the feel of the breeze on her skin and the lights that danced before her eyes. She laid down on the walk and stared at the stars, watching as they twisted and moved.
“Jules? Are you here?” Cal’s voice rang out.
Juliette pulled out her phone once more thinking the sound was coming from the tinny speakers.
She stared at her phone with a small pout as she tried to figure out where the voice was coming from.
“I’m here,” Cal said from above.
Juliette looked up and saw the most beautiful face she had ever seen.
“Umm, thanks” Cal said as she reached out her hand to pull Juliette up.
“Cal! Calliope, the best name for the best person!”
“Are you alright? You seem…not okay…” Cal trailed off as Juliette stared at a spot above her head, tongue peeking out from between her lips.
“I think I can taste color” Juliette said seriously.
“Okay, what did you take?” Cal asked. “You are on a serious high right now.”
“Elinor said it was ex…ess…ecstasy.” Juliette laughed as she tried to get her mouth to form the words.
“Elinor did this to you?” Cal asked, annoyed.
Juliette just laughed and threw herself forward into Cal’s arms. “You’re so beautiful. Even when you make that face.”
“What face?”
“That one,” she said as she poked Cal’s cheek. “The ultra serious one.”
“I don’t make a face,” Cal answered before shaking her head. “Never mind. Let’s just get you home.”
“Nooo…I don’t wanna go home” Juliette pouted.
“Of course not. My place?” Cal suggested.
“With your scary parents?” Juliette said.
“No, they’re out for the night,” Cal answered.
Juliette just nodded from where she had pressed her face back into Cal’s chest.
With some effort Cal maneuvered Juliette into her brother’s car and buckled her up. She kept her eyes both on the road and on her girlfriend who seemed to be fascinated with the window. She rolled it up and down, up and down, giggling at the sound.
When they arrived at Cal’s house, Juliette was nearly asleep. Cal slowly unbuckled her and pulled her pliant form out of the passenger seat. She half-carried, half-dragged the vampire up the stairs to her bedroom.
After a few minutes of changing her into something comfortable and getting her some water, Cal climbed into bed with her girlfriend.
“Remind me to kill your sister tomorrow.” Cal said lightly.
Juliette just groaned and pulled her close.
“Love you” she murmured.
“I love you too,” Cal answered, kissing her forehead.
