See, Hear, Speak No Evil?

Summary:

When a new monster attacks the school, Penelope, Hope, and Josie are left to defend it and themselves with comical side effects.

Notes:

This was just a silly thing sitting in my drafts.

Work Text:

Hope rolled her eyes fondly as Josie told the story for the umpteenth time.

“And that was when Penelope said, ‘I haven’t got enough for all of us.’ After that night, we all kept hanging out. Even though we basically had to drag this one,” Josie finished, nudging Hope, who sat next to her at the lunch table.

“What can I say, I was stuck,” Hope replied.

“And you’ve loved every minute of it,” Penelope said, coming up behind her girls to wrap her arms around them. She then took a seat on Josie’s other side.

“Enough of this gross lesbian shit. Can we please move on?” Lizzie cut in from where she was sitting across from the girls next to MG and Kaleb.

“Yeah, I’m all for love stories but I’m with Lizzie here,” Kaleb said, putting his arm around Cleo who sat next to him. “We’ve heard this one enough to last a lifetime.”

Josie blushed, shrinking down as if she could hide. “I don’t tell it that much.”

“I love you babe, but you kinda do,” Penelope said.

“But it’s cute,” Hope chimed in, trying to ease some of Josie’s embarrassment.

“Whatever,” She mumbled, nibbling on her carrots.

“Waterfall later?” Penelope whispered into Josie’s ear, her eyes meeting Hope’s over she shoulder, knowing full well she heard too.

Josie nodded happily. And they both turned to hope who did the same.

“Quit eye-fucking each other. We’re gonna be late,” Lizzie said.

The three rolled their eyes and got up to go to class, saying goodbye and sharing brief kisses.

When three o’clock rolled around the girls were all at the waterfall, sitting on the edge with their legs hanging over.

“I can’t believe the year is halfway over. What are you planning to do after you graduate Hope?” Josie asked.

“I don’t know. It’s not like I can leave.”

“What do you mean? We’ll be fine without you,” Josie said quickly.

“Yeah sure. Who is going to come saving your ass every time a new monster attacks. This school would crumble without me,” Hope said.
“I wouldn’t be too sure Mikaelson,” Penelope said.

“Oh yeah, then what about that?” Hope asked, gesturing to a small monkey-like creature stalking through the forest.

“That’s an unlucky coincidence,” Josie grumbled.

The three got up as Josie yelled for the creature. It turned immediately and stared at them. Had anyone been watching from the outside, they would have seen the girls stare blankly at the creature. But, as it was, a few blank seconds passed for the girls and then the creature laughed a high-pitched shriek and ran the other way.

“That was weird.” Josie said.

“What?” Penelope asked.

“I said…I said… that…” Josie tried, only to be interrupted by coughs.

“Guys…” Hope said.

“Are you saying something?” Penelope asked loudly, staring at Josie who was opening and closing her mouth to no avail.

“Guys…” Hope tried again.

“It’s hopeless,” Penelope said. “My ears are ringing.”

“Guys I can’t see!” Hope said urgently.

Josie’s eyes went wide as she went to Hope who had her hands out in front of her. Hope jumped when Josie grabbed her. She led her over to a rock and sat her down, placing a hand on shoulder as if to say stay.

“What’s going on?” Penelope asked, following behind them.

“I can’t see,” Hope said.

“What are you saying…I can’t hear you?” Penelope complained.

“I’m saying,” Hope said, gritting her teeth in annoyance. “That I can’t see anything.”

Josie, who could see the tension rising between her girlfriends, clapped a few times as if to break it up.

“Why are you clapping?” Do you think this is funny?” Hope growled.

“Why is Josie clapping?” Penelope asked.

“Josie?” Hope asked.

Josie rolled her eyes. She looked at Penelope and pointed to Hope. She placed her hands over her eyes as if playing peek-a-boo, then pointed to Hope again.

“Hope can’t see?” Penelope asked again.

“Yes! That’s what I’ve been saying!” Hope said exasperatedly.

Josie them pointed to herself and grabbed at her throat. Making a pained face.

“And you can’t talk?” Penelope asked.

“Josie can’t talk?” Hope asked.

Josie grabbed Hope’s hands and put them on her head as she nodded it yes.

“What is she saying?” Penelope asked. “I can’t hear.”

Josie, ever the concerned girlfriend, walked over to Penelope and checked her out. Looking to her ears as if she could see the damage.

“It must have been the monkey thing.” Hope said.

Josie looked to Hope and nodded. Penelope turned to Josie and asked “What?”

Josie tried to spell monkey out with her hands.

“Monkey?” Penelope asked confused

Josie waved to where the creature was and spelled it again. “Oh you think the creature did this to us?” Penelope voiced.

Josie nodded. Then, pointed back to the school and gestured to all of them.

“We should get back to the school.” Hope said at the same time. Josie rolled her eyes as that was what she was just saying. She nodded and went to Hope.

She grabbed Hope’s arm and helped her up, keeping her arm locked in hers to guide her. Josie then gestured to Penelope to get on the other side.

“Are we going back to the school?” Penelope asked. Hope nodded.

They began their trek back and for being a wolf, Hope was surprisingly bad at walking with no sight. She tripped multiple times, once bringing both the girls down with her. They had only made it about half way when Hope heard the shrieking laugh again.

“Where is it?” She asked.

Josie tried to sign out “what?” but realized hope couldn’t see. Penelope tried to continue on until she was abruptly stopped by the arm of the others not moving.

“What?” She asked.

“I hear the creature. It’s close.” Hope said. Penelope looked to Hope’s lips moving to Josie standing there. Josie spelled out “creature.”

“Where?” Penelope asked, her voice loud and carrying in the forest.

“Shhh!” Hope shushed. Josie held her finger to her lips.

“There!” Hope shouted. She turned sixty degree and pointed. The others followed her line of sight where a huge, hairy beast stood.

“That was not the thing we saw before!” Penelope yelled.

“What is it?” Hope asked. Josie had no time to translate as it took off in a sprint towards them.

Josie grabbed Hope and hoped Penelope was still holding on as she ran. Hope tried to follow but fell and slipped out of Josie’s grasp.

Josie stopped after a while and tried to get her bearings. She wasn’t sure where her girlfriends were or where the creature was. She stood still and listened. Everything was quiet.

She was just about to take off in a direction and look when she heard Penelope yell. She took off running in the direction of the sound, hoping to find her girlfriend when she ran smack into the creature.

It roared and swatted out. Before Josie could even focus, she was being flung in the air by a huge fist. She sailed a few feet before slamming into a tree. She fell to the ground, unconscious.

Luckily, the creature seemed to hear something else and turned away from her.

“Penelope” Hope yelled, trying to get to her girlfriend who had cried out.

She trudged through the woods, trying and failing to stay on her feet. This was ridiculous. She was the Tribrid for fucks sake. A little blindness should not take her out. She closed her eyes and listened. She heard small curses coming from her right. She followed them until she came across Penelope.
“Jesus Hope!” she yelled. “Don’t sneak up on me like that.”

Hope reached out her hands as she continued moving in the direction of Penelope’s voice. “Yeah I’m here.” Penelope said as one of Hope’s hands caught her face.

“Where’s Josie?” Penelope asked?

Hope shook her head. She suddenly turned to her left where the creature came barreling towards them. Hope’s instincts took over and she shoved Penelope out of the way. She cast a spell aiming the way the creature just went past, but missed. Penelope however, turned and hit the creature with a powerful fire spell.

Penelope grabbed Hope’s hand and turned her towards the creature. In no time, both were fighting side by side towards the creature.

They had hit it plenty of times and it still wasn’t seeming to die. Before Hope and Penelope could send another spell, Josie was there. She came up behind it and put her hands on either side of its head. It shuddered as she siphoned. She siphoned all of the magic out of it and it dropped to the ground. Dead.

All three sighed with relief. Suddenly, the birds chirping and the sound of her girls’ panting reached Penelope’s ears.

She turned to Hope excitedly, who was wiping at her eyes.

“Jojo?” She asked?

“I…I can talk,” Josie said hoarsely.

“I can see.” Hope said relieved.

Penelope just nodded. “Well, that was a day.”

“What should we do with the thing?” Josie asked.

Hope shrugged. “That’s for Dr. S to deal with. Let’s get you cleaned up.” She said, reaching for Josie and eyeing her still bleeding head.

“I think we all need a shower,” Penelope added, pulling a twig from her hair.

They headed off to the school, leaving the giant creature behind. Not noticing as it turned into a small monkey and got up.
