Work Text:
Jack and Maddie were on their way to meet with the GIW agent that called them on the phone earlier that day. They told them they couldn’t meet right now. That their son was missing, they weren’t interested in working right now. Not until they found him. The agent on the phone just insisted that they come as soon as they could.
“What do you think they want?” Maddie asked Jack. “Surely they’d understand why we can’t work right now. Whatever break through they’ve had that they need our help with could wait until Danny is back home. Or they could have just gotten someone else.”
“Maybe this’ll be a nice break.” Jack said as he turned into the parking lot. “We haven’t done much else besides looking for Danny. It would be good to get our mind off of it for a little bit, wouldn’t it?”
“I guess.” Maddie said, looking away. “I’d just rather be looking for Danny right now.”
Jack sighed. “Me too.”
He pulled in a parking spot and took the keys out. Together they walked to the front doors of the unmarked white building. A man in a white suit is standing outside waiting for them.
“Ah, Mr. and Mrs. Fenton, there you are. I’m glad you could make it.” He keycards them into the building and leads them to an elevator near the back of the room.
“I hope what we’re here for is important.” Maddie says. “We have a family emergency going on at home right now and need to get back to it.”
“We may actually be able to help you with that.” He says as the elevator opens. “We have reason to believe that your son is the Danny Phantom.”
“What?” Maddie frowns at the agent.
“We’d know if our son was a ghost.” Jack said, clenching his fist.
“How could he be Phantom?” Maddie asked. “Danny is such a sweet boy and Phantom is a menace to the whole town. It’s not possible.”
“We’ve seen him transform between his two forms. We’ve been doing tests to find out how it’s possible for Phantom to be doing this.”
“Excuse me?” Maddie fumes. “Are you telling me that you people here are the ones who took our son? He’s been here all this time?”
“We needed to keep him here for study, so we can learn how Phantom so effortlessly bonded himself with your son and how to fix it.” The agent keycarded them into another room, this one looked like it was a viewing room.
There’s a glass in the back of the room and through it they could see Danny on the other side. He was laying on the ground, covered in blood and ectoplasm.
“What have you been doing to him?” Jack shouted. “Why is he in there, hurt and covered in his own blood?”
“That’s not your son anymore. Phantom has corrupted him.” The agent said coldly. “Altered him. With your permission, we can do further tests to find a way to free Danny from Phantom’s hold.”
Jack and Maddie were really torn. From what they could tell, Danny looked as much like himself as he always did.
“Do you think we should do this?” Maddie asked Jack.
“I don’t know.” Jack said. “The GIW wouldn’t lie to us about this, would they? They wouldn’t have suggested it if it wasn’t something they thought was necessary.”
“I guess you’re right.” Maddie looked at her feet before turning back to the agent. “Alright, if it’ll free Danny from Phantom’s clutches, you can perform whatever tests you need to.”
The agent smiles and a glint flashes in his eyes. “Excellent.”
“Mom? Dad? Is that you?” Danny called.
Maddie pressed her hand up against the glass. “Yes it is, sweetie, we’re here. These men are going to help you. They’re going to get rid of Phantom.”
“What? No, no, no. You can’t do that! They’re just trying to hurt me!” Danny cried. “There is no difference between me and Phantom! We’re the same person!”
“There it goes again.” the agent shook his head. “Trying to plead for its afterlife.”
“Mom, please!”
“I”m sorry, Danny, but this is for your own good. We need to be rid of Phantom. He is a danger to the town and the people in it.”
“Dad!”
Jack looked away, unable to look Danny in the eye. “I’m sorry son.”
“No! They’re just trying to use me! They don’t care about freeing me or my well being! Please, get me out!”
“If you follow Agent X here, he can get you the proper forms to allow us to do the other tests. Hopefully we’ll find a way to free your son soon.”
Jack and Maddie followed Agent X out of the room and the first agent closed the door behind him. He turned back towards the glass, frowning at Danny.
“Stop your incessant whining.” He curled his lip at Danny. “You should be happy, with your help we can make more hybrid soldiers to assist us in defeating ghostly kind. In ridding our world of them.”
“You’ll be killing people in your attempts to do so.” Danny growled at him.
The agent shrugged his shoulders and hummed. “A worthy sacrifice for our cause.”
“You’re monsters!” Danny shouted.
“No.” The agent leaned closer to the glass, looking down at Danny. “You’re the monster.”
“Fuck you!” Danny stood up and started pounding on the glass in front of the agent's face. “Somebody else will come find me! They’ll get me out!”
“Who? Your teenage friends? How will they break into a highly restricted building? The ghosts? They wouldn’t come near this place with a ten foot pole.” The agent turned back around and walked back towards the door.
“You’re stuck here. And you’ll never be making it out.”
