Chapter 1: Back in Seoul

Chapter Text

You hoped that Yoongi would stop by today. As he became busier and busier, you figured he wouldn't have the time to casually stop by and chat like he used to, but you still held out hope. He always made time for you after coming back from overseas.

The last few months had been somewhat of a whirlwind for them: tours; performances; fan-meets; promotions. The offices were eerily quiet as the majority of staff had followed them around. You were left with the only other junior in your department catching up on menial jobs.

You worked with the sound department. Consequently, your boss and seniors had joined the boys for the performances in Japan and Taiwan. Your responsibility was to order more batches of equipment to replace the ones that would be inevitably worn out when everyone came back.

Soohyun, aka Adora, one of your close friends who so happened to be one of their producers, had also gone on the trip. You were quite jealous as you seemed to be the only one in your friendship circle who didn't get an invite; despite being probably the most useful.

" Why would a producer go on tour though?  You have  just gone for the free holiday. What about the junior sound engineer?! I'd be more useful... " you said as you pinched some meat from her bowl with your chopsticks.

Ultimately, you had no one to talk to so you felt lonely. Juyeon, your fellow junior, was new to the job and you hadn't yet developed a comfortable rapport with him yet.

Today was the day they were all supposed to come back to Seoul. You made sure the office was clean and tidy in anticipation of your senior co-workers coming back. As if it were a ticking bomb in your pocket, you kept checking your phone to see if Soohyun had messaged you.

Nothing.

Your heart was beating in your chest and you felt your palms grow clammy. It was as if you felt incredibly nervous knowing he was back in the country.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the office door and a familiar voice called your name.

"Ah! Sunbae Lee isn't here yet?"

It was Yoongi.

You felt your cheeks puff up with a happy smile because you certainly didn't expect him to turn up despite having a hunch he would.

"Just me and Juyeon!" you chirpily replied as you sat up right at your desk.

Yoongi tilted his head in a motion that indicated he wanted to come in.

"Please, come and sit down. You must be exhausted from all the travelling. In fact, I don't know what you're doing back here. No one even told me..."

You could feel the worlds tumbling out of your mouth like an overflowing bubble bath: you couldn't stop them.

"Did you eat well? Did you sleep well? Where are the others? What are you doing now? That's a nice sweater did you get it in...?"

Yoongi closed his eyes, sighed and shook his head as he flashed a gummy-smile.

"Yah! If I wasn't tired before, I am now after all of your questions!"

You immediately slapped your hand to your mouth and closed your eyes, realising how embarrassing you had been in front of him.

Yes he was your friend but he was still very much your senior at work and Sunbae Lee wouldn't be impressed if he found you talking to Yoongi in such a way in the offices.

"Sorry Min," you whispered with a cheeky grin.

He paused as he adjusted himself on the leather sofa he had sat on.

"JK is here and Namjoon as well. The others went home because on the plane it was..."

His voice trailed off as you began to lose yourself in your thoughts.

Namjoon.

The one person in the entire world who you absolutely adored completely; yet you treated him like he didn't exist. It was very difficult to indulge in your feelings for him as it was strictly forbidden to entangle yourself with a someone of his status at work.

He had stolen your heart from the moment you first met him: his intellect; his wit; his compassion; his handsome features. The list was endless. The only way you could hide your feelings for him was to ignore them as hard as you could.

It was difficult but you just about managed it.

Yoongi looked at you with furrowed brows.

"Is that a yes or a no then?"

Nervously, you looked at him. He could tell you hadn't been listening to him so he rolled his eyes at you.

"I said are you coming on Friday then?"

The company usually threw a wrap-party whenever a promotional tour had finished. It wasn't unusual for certain company employees to attend. Anyway, you'd probably go with Soohyun, who usually invited you as her plus one.

"Sure. Why not. I suppose if I'm not busy..."

Yoongi heard the casual way in which you spoke and he knew exactly why you were being so nonchalant.

It was very obvious to him that your mind was elsewhere; Yoongi knew you were secretly disappointed that Namjoon wasn't with him. Yoongi figured that had developed a crush on his friend over the years. You played the shy card towards him all too often. As far as you knew, no one else had a clue because you treated Namjoon coldly compared to the others.

"It's just professional conduct," you reassured Yoongi when he had previously mentioned the way you treated his friend.

Yoongi's phone began to ring. He looked at it with a sour face and put it back in his jeans pocket.

"I'm sorry it was a quick visit. I did want to speak to Sunbae Lee about a new in-ear monitor, actually. I'll stop by in the week to see him."

Yoongi stood up and zipped up his hoody.

"But I'll definitely see you on Friday then?" he called over his shoulder as he gave a small wave. You smiled and nodded.

After he had left, Juyeon popped his head from around his computer screen and it made you jump: you had completely forgotten he was there.

"Aish! You scared me!"

He adjusted his glasses.

"I didn't realise you were so close to Yoongi-ssi," he said with suggestive tone, raising his eyebrows. "If only Sunbae Lee knew you talked so informally to the Seniors...!!"

Without even thinking, you rolled your eyes at him and tutted.

"Oh don't be stupid, Juyeon. You need to clean your ears out."

"Why do you get to go to the parties and I don't," he sulked.

"Because my best friend is going and she's invited me as her plus one!"

"Alright! Alright! No need to be snappy and bitter!"

You shot at look at him. It wasn't a known fact you had developed friendships with some of the boys.

"I guess there is a reason you're grumpy. You're definitely into Yoongi, aren't you?!"

Immediately, you stood up and chastised him.

"Juyeon! Don't say such blasphemous rubbish to your senior! I am not into Yoongi-ssi. And I'm not grumpy. Where did you get that from?!"

He looked taken-back by your outburst so you slowly sat yourself back down.

"You're not my senior. We do the same job. In fact, I'm sure my birthday is a few days before yours? And anyway, I just... I heard some of the Accounts Unnies talking about you to Sunbae Lee last week. They were worried that you were lonely because you were so grumpy to them in the cafeteria."

A burst of laughter erupted from your lips.

They're such nosey...

You weren't grumpy in the cafeteria. You just missed him. Whenever he was out of the country, you felt unsettled and couldn't relax until you knew he was home.

You were about to say something back to Juyeon but your seniors came trundling into your office with their equipment. You both stood up and bowed. Not before long you were given tasks to do by Sunbae Lee.

The day went quickly and as you arrived home, you chucked yourself onto your bed and immediately phoned Soohyun.

"I've got something to tell you!" she urged, her voice full of anticipation.

"Oh yes....?!"

"I'll tell you in person. Meet me at the Honeybrick tomorrow after work. Is 6pm ok for you?"

And with that, she hung up and left you wondering what the heck it was that she could possibly have to tell you.
