Notes:

This fic is inspired by Cosmo Sheldrakes' song, Cuckoo Song.
Inspiration also comes from surfingcatsandfluffyrats who made a Beatles Seasons AU. If they want me to take this down, then I can do.

All of this is just a comfort fic :))

Work Text:

A bright and colourful morning, nothing could be more colourful than Spring's gardens though. Filled with so many different varieties of blooms and fruits, you could walk down the gardens for hours and hours on end without getting bored, Spring looked after these gardens all they could. George would spend his never-ending days in these gardens, their normal routine for every day would normally consist of him singing and dancing around while planting and taking care of their beloved gardens, while pondering down the cobbled paths, their animal friends would follow; usually foxes and rabbits could be seen chasing after the boy.

Spring wore a pretty green dress with dotted flowers here and there, a white polo was underneath and the collar would always be neatly folded over, they also wore black, knee height boots that would clop like horseshoes while he walked, lastly, a moss robe, it was fluffy and kept him warm if Winter caused havoc. On that note, no-one would dare to cause Winter to get angry, if he got frustrated at the littlest thing then the other three seasons expected the weather to be rough for at least a few days, maybe even a week. John wasn't one to mess with, which Summer (Paul) liked to do sometimes, for his own entertainment, Winter could always count on Spring the most to calm him down, with their soft singing voice, it always calmed him down or even sent him to sleep.

George was good and always brought him back to his own snowy wastelands in no time, in fact, for a week straight, George had to take the Wintery boy back to his own area simply because he'd fallen asleep in the gardens from overworking his own season. George knew that he wouldn't get away with walking into the snowy lands for too long and eventually grew white tips onto their fluffy bunny ears, he didn't mind at all, they just stung a little during the warmer parts of spring, just as Summer was taking over.

~~~~~
Today's morning was no different any other day, the height of spring. George went to a new patch of soils that he had recently prepared for a new bush of roses to go, along with the rows (that looked and felt like a mile) of rose bushes, all different colours and bloomed brightly with the sun's soft gaze down onto the pretty flowers. They put the already half bloomed rose pot onto the floor, a fox came up beside the boy and sniffed them.
"Y'wanna help me, bud?" Spring grinned as their gradient ears perked up slightly, giving a polite tone to the red furred creature.
They made room for the fox as it started digging a hole in the soft soil, making it just big enough for the fresh bush to fit it's way in. Geo looked very proud of the fox and patted it on the head slowly and gently, to which it gave a response of a small, happy and content yip. The boy in green then started to lift the red roses out of it prior pot and carefully placed it in the hole that had just been dug, then making sure the bush was secure with the excess soil that was left behind.
With a happy smile on his face, Spring stood up and viewed his beautiful new rose bush from a metre further. The fox looking up at him, grinning.
"Thank you for helpin' me out, 'ere, take a treat!" They smiled, giving the fox a little meat treat that he carried in a small bag, he kept it with him to give to any foxes, badgers, any creatures we would come across.
Now, as usual after planting anew, he started wandering around their gardens singing a sweet song. Their dress swayed and flowed while they walked around with all his animals following him. A cuckoo then approached onto one of the vine-covered benches. This caused a smile to grow on Spring's face.
"I knew a cuckoo song, y'know? I think I remember it." He watched while offering the bird to come closer, the small bird flew onto his hand as he hummed and summarised the words.
"What do you do?
In April, I open my bill
In May, I sing night 'n day
In June, I change my tune
In July, far off I fly
In August, away
I must"
He repeated the same tune a couple times over while the cuckoo chirped along with them, slowly waltzing through the circular cobble plates, in circles. During this time, Spring had a visitor, they didn't know but John was hiding behind a very subtle bush, he listened to his warmer friend sing the sweet tune. Winter compared the voice to an angel in his own mind. A nice emotion came to him, for such a bitter season, it felt warm and fuzzy. He wanted to join the younger boy but felt too shy too, he didn't want to spook them and stop him from singing, so he remained in his position and listened to his soothing friend.
After finishing the same verse for the third time, finishing his song and the cuckoo perched itself on the bench frame once again.
"Geo, when did you learn to sing like that?" Winter then approached from the hedges, Spring wasn't startled at all, instead they just turned and smiled.
As he turned full was towards the older boy, their dress flowed in the same direction as their ears flopped down and rested on their . That fuzzy feeling still remained within John, but he was easy to hide it away, if it was Autumn (Ringo) then not as much.
"I dunno, honestly." Spring shrugged a reply with a smile, "I'm guessing yer spyin' on me again?"
"Well, not now... but maybe I was." Winter confessed. "I saw you talkin' to the fox earlier, I didn't know y'could talk to animals." His tone changed, becoming very cheerful and positive. His little white deer's tail wagged underneath his long and ragged cloak in excitement. John got a nod for a response, "Yeah, just don't tell Autumn, he'd burst!" Geo laughed, John joined but his laugh not as loud. The laughter died down as quick as it began.
An awkward silence fell upon them for a short amount of time, swiftly broken by the animals chirps and foxes playing just down the path. The older of the two had his right arm behind his back, it was subtle but George noticed.
"Watcha hidin' Johnny?" he smirked and gave their companion a cheeky look, also filled with curiosity.
John paused, trying to not act suspicious but he's been found out. Shit, he thought. Guess I have to show them now...
Suddenly, with a shy and attempt at hiding his face, Winter held his arm out with a beautiful, fully bloomed rose. John's fuzzy feeling came back, in tingled more within his body.
"For you..." He whimpered, face blushed with embarrassment.
Spring paused, feeling the other mans cold hands while taking the maroon coloured bloom. Their eyes glistened in the sun, so bright and full of care, the bold brown eyes faced the awkward man in front of him who slowly started to lift his head.
"John, I love it!" They beamed, placing it slightly but secure onto his head. It lay there as if it was always there.
The green season then, with no word, hugged the colder one. Winter panicked for a second, he didn't want his friend getting too cold, but in Spring's head for this it was worth it. They secured each other into the hug more, feeling the physical connection become stronger and more heart-filled. John was so happy, he didn't know how to describe his feelings but he enjoyed them.
"I'll sing to you later." George promised and giggled lightly, John murmured an inaudible but happy response.
Spring sang Winter to sleep later that day.
