Chapter Text
It had been a long time coming, but it seemed like it happened in the blink of an eye. Yoongi had received news from Dongsan that his father might not make it through the night, and that his presence at home was required immediately. This was going to be the moment where Yoongi's father proved if he had some compassion or if he was still the complete bastard that Yoongi had known his entire youth.
The cruel man, Min Honggi, who had not only brutally raped his mother and forced her to abandon Yoongi when he was only a four year old pup, but who had also mercilessly beat him and punished him for the simple reason that he was his bastard son and the walking result of one of his many drunken mistakes. As soon as Yoongi had received the letter detailing his father's situation, Yoongi had mounted his horse and ridden through the night to make sure he made it back home before his father took his last breath, hoping that that he could convince the old man once and for all to legitimize his right to the family name Min.
Upon Yoongi's arrival to Min Estates, he was greeted by one of his father's omega servants, and his childhood friend, Jung Hoseok. “Young Master Min!”
“Hoseok!” The alpha gives the omega a quick hug, something he was always admonished for when he did live at the Min Estate as a child, was that he shouldn’t be too friendly with the servants. “It’s been a long time, how are you?”
“I’m very well.”
“And your father?”
“He passed a few years ago,” Hoseok replies, sending a sad smile. “But I’ve inherited his title as Head Omega.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry, but congratulations on your new title.”
The omega bows before leading them toward the house. “I'm glad you were able to make it in time. The priest is trying to convince your father to change his will and legitimize your right as his only living alpha son, but as you can imagine he's refusing to do it until he speaks to you, Young Master Min.”
“Hoseok, how many times have I told you to call me Yoongi?”
The omega blushes scarlet before replying, “But Young Master Min, this is the proper way to address you!”
Yoongi smiled at the omega's response. “Not until my father legitimizes my right as his son. Until then, by society standards, I'm nothing but the bastard product of a one-night stand and considered lesser than you, so please just call me Yoongi.”
“Fine then Youn- I mean Yoongi. The priest and your father are upstairs waiting for you."
“Thanks, Hoseok,” Yoongi replied before heading into the house.
This had been Yoongi's first time back in the Min house since he was ten years old, the last time Yoongi had been in the home, he was informed by his father that his wife had given him an ultimatum - either Yoongi was sent away or she would pack her bags along with her son and leave.
It had been twenty years since that day and many things had happened to Min Honggi since then. The most important being the untimely death of both his wife and son due to an unknown illness, and now after years of drinking, the alcohol had finally caught up to him and was killing him slowly.
As Yoongi made his way through the long corridor to his father's bedroom, he heard the pitiful moans of the old man to the priest. Yoongi decided to knock before entering the room, and both his father and the priest turned to look at him.
“Ah Yoongi, your father has signed his will and legitimized you as not only his son but the heir to his mass fortune, with this he hopes to pay for his past mistakes and earn your forgiveness.” The priest waved at Yoongi to come forward but Yoongi was frozen in his spot, the smell of death, alcohol and burnt cigars surrounding him and overwhelming all his senses. It was all too much for the alpha, so before he could think twice he turned around and walked back out of the room. As he headed down the stairs he heard the weak cries of his father calling him back before he broke into a coughing fit.
To say Yoongi was shocked at the state of his father would be putting it mildly.
The once strong arrogant alpha had dwindled down to skin and bones and even though Yoongi had despised his alpha father for all the abuse both physical and mental he had given him, seeing him so brittle and sick had been too hard for him to see. Not just because he was the only family he had left, but because from his medical experience he could tell his father's delirious state was a sign that it wouldn't be long until he passed.
As the early signs of sunrise approached the priest walked out of the house and approached Yoongi. He cleared his throat before speaking, "Mr. Min has passed, son. He called for you in his last moments. I know it's hard to forget all the bad things he had done to you in the past, but hopefully with him giving you what is rightfully yours you'll be able to find some kind of peace.”
He handed Yoongi his father’s will before leaving. As Yoongi looked at the papers in his hand he felt a strong urge to cry reading the name Min Yoongi printed clearly on the dotted line. This was the beginning of a new life for the alpha, a life that would hopefully be much better than the one he's lived for the past thirty years.
A life he could finally call his own.
