Nohr was a dark dreary kingdom in the deep sea. It was nestled at the bottom of the ocean where the sunlight couldn’t reach. Light sources were scarce and highly valued amongst the residents of the kingdom. Food was scarce as well, not to mention the abundance of predators terrorizing the people who lived there.
Compared to the kingdom of Valla, who were closer to the surface, Nohr was a harsh barren wasteland. Valla thrived amongst the beautiful coral reefs they called their home. Their food was plenty and their well fed army easily kept any predators at bay.
The two sea kingdoms couldn’t be more different. Even their anatomy was contrary. Nohr’s people depended on bioluminescence and their bigger size to survive in the depths. Their scales were duller and mundane compared to Valla folk’s colorful array of tails and fins alike. The merfolk of Valla were softer, rounder, and used their ethereal voices to heal the sick and wounded. The sirenfolk of Nohr however, were sharper, gaunt, and used their voices to hunt unsuspecting prey.
The two kingdoms had been locked in combat and subterfuge for countless millennium. The current king of Nohr; king Garon, had killed Valla’s king and kidnapped the man’s daughter and her cousin. For years the two lived in the darkness of Nohr, as their family fought fiercely to return them home. There, they grew close to king Garon’s children, who were kind to them. The two royals grew to consider the four siblings as family and vice versa. As the children grew, the Valla people’s patience grew thin.
One night, the great sea serpent Anankos laid siege to Nohr’s capital. For his child Corrin and niece Azura, had finally been executed by king Garon. The Valla people were fairly peaceful and despite Nohr’s aggression, they didn’t want to destroy their neighboring kingdom. But this was a slight they couldn’t ignore. Anankos nearly killed the nohrian royal children in vengeance if it hadn’t been for his somehow alive child and niece pleading for their lives to be spared. They told the great sea serpent about their familial bond with the royals and how prince Leo of Nohr faked their deaths with his magic so they could escape back home to Valla. Anankos graciously spared the four siblings and with a tearful goodbye, Corrin and Azura returned to Valla unharmed.
The nohrian siblings however were not so lucky. For their father was a cruel madman intent on destroying Valla once and for all. And upon realizing the façade of the valite royal’s execution, king Garon turned his wrath upon his children. He couldn’t find evidence of Xander, Camilla or Elise helping the two valites escape, though he suspected as much. So instead of killing all his heirs, he decided to punish them all by exiling prince Leo for his part in the scheme. The prince was immediately captured and beaten upon Garon’s orders. The king even had the boy tortured in an attempt to get him to sell out his siblings. But despite Garon’s efforts, the boy refused to speak.
