Work Text:
Caitlyn Kiramman finished her day of work as the sheriff of Piltover. She was currently caring a bag of groceries and on her way to her apartment that she shared with her girlfriend.
Girlfriend.
The thought alone was enough to put a smile on her face.
She can ’ t wait to open the door and see that dazzling pink hair and drown herself in that pair of blueish grey eyes and muscled arms.
But none of that happened.
Silence was what awaited her after she opened the door.
Silence and a trashed apartment.
Bag was on the floor and her gun in her hands.
“ Vi? ”
The sheriff voiced quietly.
She couldn ’ t help but think of the worse after she noticed the gauntlet sitting obediently on the floor.
“ Vi? ”
She raised her voice a little and swore she caught a glimpse of pink vanishing into their bedroom. The Sheriff then carefully avoided the scraps of ripped clothes and pieces of broken furniture and made her way to the bedroom.
She took a deep breath and kicked the sightly ajar door open.
“ Police! Don ’ t move! ”
What the-
Caitlyn Kiramman had seen many things in her almost thirty years of life, but this was a first.
And it ’ s terrifying.
It ’ s terrifying enough that her hands shook a little bit.
A wolf.
A giant big ass wolf was standing beside the bed and it looked just as terrifying as Caitlyn herself.
Caitlyn would be telling a big fat lie if she said that she had never seen a wolf in her entire life.
She ’ s a Kiramman , of course she had seen wolfs before.
In the hunting ring though, not the middle of Piltover and certainly not in her apartment.
But there was indeed a wolf in her bedroom.
And no signs of Vi.
So she tightened her grip on the gun and aimed.
“What have you done with her!”
She must ’ ve been crazy, praying that a wolf could understand her. She wanted to go back to the precinct and gather up every available hands on deck to find Vi but the more reasonable part of her brain told her that she had to take care of this first.
What ever this is.
The wolf looked between Caitlyn ’ s eyes and the barrel of her gun, its paws moved forward.
“ Don ’ t. Move. ”
Caitlyn squeezed the words out between the gap of her front teeth.
To her surprise, the wolf looked hurt by her words and hung its head lower before shot it back up and looked at Caitlyn and gave her a nod towards the living room.
“ What do you want? ”
Caitlyn didn ’ t know what that meant so she didn ’ t move.
The wolf seemed anxious and nodded its head again and proceed to move towards the door.
Seeing no urgent threats and the fact that she had her gun, Caitlyn slowly backed away pace by pace.
When they both retreated to the more open area, the wolf visibly relaxed and went around the room as if trying to find something and it stopped beside the sofa where Vi ’ s leather jacket was.
The wolf excitedly held it up in her mouth and looked at Caitlyn in the eyes. It even wiggled its fluffy tails a bit.
Caitlyn Kiramman wouldn ’ t know what having a heart attack would feel like but she was pretty sure she ’ s having one right now.
“You...you ate her? ! Vi! Vi? Where are you? ”
The wolf groaned.
Not unpleasantly. More like frustrated.
Seeing the respond of the woman, the wolf dropped the jacket and walked towards the sofa after picking up a pencil on the floor.
“Step away from the sofa !”
Caitlyn was angry. But to be honest, she was more scared than angry.
The thought of losing Vi made her nauseous.
I can ’ t lose her.
A series of clicking sound brought Caitlyn back to reality and she watched stunningly as the wolf tapped something with the pencil on the keyboard.
I must be hallucinating, there ’ s just no way-
“ nine...outfit...cupcake? ”
Caitlyn wondered out loud. Turned out the wolf typed something for her to see.
There had been and always will be only one person who would call her that.
It wasn ’ t until then that Caitlyn noticed the mount of pink hair on top of the wolf ’ s forehead.
Caitlyn Kiramman was never one to take guesses before having solid proofs.
Yet the jacket and the nickname made her to.
“ ...Vi? ”
“You’re...YOU are VI?”
Before she could stop herself, she lowered the gun and saw the wolf nodding and wiggling its tail. Rather rapidly.
“What?!!”
She couldn ’ t believe it.
“When exactly are you planning on telling me? ! ”
Her girlfriend. Her Vi-
“We’ve been dating for six months! That’s 180 days! 4,320 hours and 259,200 minutes! ”
-was a werewolf.
“And how long will it take you to say ‘oh by the way, I’m a werewolf’? Three seconds?”
What the actual fuck?
“I can’t believe you!”
Caitlyn collapsed on the floor both from the shock and the emotional roller coaster ride. And that she was a little relieved that Vi didn ’ t die, just became a...werewolf.
“And do you HAVE to chew on the furniture ? Really? That foot rest is a gift, you know?” Caitlyn gestured with her hands.
Burying her face in her palms, Caitlyn took a calming breath. She felt the wolf, well it ’ s Vi now, getting closer and closer until a wet nose nudged her hands and then her forearm and then fluffy furs pressed against her side.
But she didn ’ t look up because she had no idea what to do. Granted, nobody ever told her how to live with a werewolf.
They stayed like that for about five minutes and Caitlyn looked up so suddenly that Vi ’ s wolf ears shot up startled.
“Can you change back?”
Caitlyn looked at wolf-Vi, her blue eyes shinning.
Nod .
“Can you do it now?”
Head hung low.
“Well how long will it take?”
Caitlyn questioned and waited patiently for Vi to type out her answer on the laptop.
“I don’t k...what do you mean you don’t know?”
And she was disappointed.
“Is this the first ... it can’t possibly be the first time that something like this happened, right?”
Another nod.
“Okay, let me rephrase my question then , how long did it take you to change back before ? Averagely speaking.”
“Two to three days?!”
“Vi! That is! That is...god! I’m so mad at you right now.”
“Stop wiggling. It’s not helping.”
Caitlyn couldn ’ t believe her luck and for the first time in her life she was at lost for words.
“Ugh, you know what? I need a shower. I need to clear my head.”
“And don’t follow me.”
“Actually, do follow me please, I can’t afford more damage s to the furniture right now.”
Finally, after what felt like eternity, Caitlyn decided she had wasted enough time. She stood up and opened the bathroom door and waited for Vi to come along with her.
She went into the bathroom and closed the door and started stripping. It felt odd undressing in front of a wolf. Even if said wolf was in fact her girlfriend.
“What is that smell? Oh my, Vi! Did you brush you teeth this morning? It’s...bad. Like something died in your mouth for three days and you decided to keep it as a toy. Right, how can you? you’re a freaking wolf.”
It ’ s not like she was planning on smelling Vi ’ s breath, she just happened to when she bend over to gather her dirty laundries and Vi ’ s been breathing heavy ever since Caitlyn took off her clothes.
I guess some things never change.
And it ’ s not like she wanted to be mean, she was just still mad about the whole situation.
Vi’s respond was actually whimpering.
Okay, let ’ s face it, how long can Caitlyn be mad at Vi?
“Come here , love. I ’ m sorry, that was...not nice. ”
Apparently not very long.
She sat on the tile floor and opened her arms, and it took Vi less than a second to launch herself into Caitlyn ’ s arms.
“ I can brush it for you, if you want? ”
If you ever cared about me, Vi, say yes, please. Caitlyn thought.
And she was happy too see that Vi agreed with a nod and then buried herself further into Caitlyn ’ s arms.
“ Okay! Great! I ’ ll grab the toothbrush. ”
“Don’t give me that look, Vi. It is your toothbrush.”
Caitlyn watched rather bemusedly as Vi groaned towards her toothbrush.
Here’s another thing I never thought I would do.
“Oh, you have a rotten teeth. Sorry! Did I hurt you? I ’ m so sorry. ”
Caitlyn decided to start with the lower row and she started gently from the right side. Vi seemed to enjoy herself but she flinched involuntarily not long after Caitlyn switch to the other side.
Another whimper was heard and Caitlyn smiled apologetically.
“Wait...that’s why you’ve been chewing with only one side of your mouth!”
Caitlyn exclaimed and saw the usual tease in Vi ’ s wolf-eyes.
“Someone’s obsessed.” She could almost hear Vi say it.
“Obsessed? Who, m e? Pff t . It’s called inquisition , i am the Sheriff of Piltover after all. ”
Shut up. Caitlyn wanted to tell Vi, but she could imagine the witty respond already.
“I’m not saying anything, I can’t.”
“Yeah, damn right you can’t, because your a wolf! And no! You will never be able to l ive this done. I will personally make sure of it.”
So Caitlyn answered herself pointed with the toothbrush in her hand as a statement and then resumed her earlier motion to brush Vi ’ s teeth.
“Don’t worry, I’ll book a session with my family’s dentist when you...well, you know.”
Caitlyn said softly after a while and Vi winced at that.
“What? It’s okay. They’ll help you with the tooth, it needs to be taken out. We’ll get it replaced, it’ll feel like your own.”
She rubbed the hair below Vi ’ s jaw in a soothing pattern and felt her werewolf relaxed a little.
“ It ’ s okay to be afraid of something you ’ ve never tried before, but i ’ll be there, okay? I’ll hold you hand s through every step. ”
Vi nodded ever so slightly.
Caitlyn gave Vi ’ s toothpaste-covered-nose a kiss and put down the toothbrush.
“Okay, now. Rinse, can you hold water in your mouth?”
“ Really, Cupcake? ” Vi ’ s expression said it all.
“...I’ll go get you a bucket.”
Kiramman. I ’ m Caitlyn fucking Kiramman. How is this my life now? The Sheriff of Piltover thought when she stepped out of the bathroom.
Few minutes later, she found Vi still sitting at the same stop she had left her and placed the bucket in front of her wolf.
“No, V i! You’re supposed to rinse your mouth! Not drink from the bucket! For the hundredth time, don’t eat your toothpaste.”
Caitlyn palmed her face and sighed loudly.
“But it’s so sweet, like you.” Vi ’ s open grin told her this much.
“Shut up.”
“Rinse. Not drink.” Caitlyn demanded.
Ugh, I need that shower so bad.
“At least we know who’s the little spoon tonight.”
Caitlyn Kiramman changed into her regular light purple nightgown and teased when Vi followed her to their bed.
For all her tough-girl-brawler demeanor, Vi certainly loved being the little spoon. And Caitlyn loved that about her too.
But she teased anyhow. Yet she instantly regretted that when Vi jumped on their bed with more force than usual.
“Have! Mercy! On the furniture Vi, please. I really like this bed.”
Vi just shrugged. At least that ’ s what Caitlyn thought she did because it was really hard to tell with Vi ’ s giant figure.
“ Gods, y ou’re huge . Are werewolves all this big?”
Caitlyn was forced to notice that Vi had taken two-thirds of their bed when her wolf snuggled against her side.
“Stop looking so smug about it. I’m flattered by your ego.”
Wolfs are stupid.
If she could punch Vi without getting her hands smashed by Vi ’ s muscle, she would.
“Al l right, good night, Vi.”
She now had her arms around Vi ’ s neck and scratching at the hairs there. She then leaned in slightly to kiss her girlfriend but stopped quickly.
“ Ugh , even your mouth is big. How does this even work? Forget it, nose then.”
A gentle peck like the one in the bathroom.
“You’re warm. I like that. ..Okay. What is that smell now?”
Caitlyn really wanted to fall asleep, it ’ s been a long day and everything but before she could dozed off, a certain and very thick smell invaded her olfactory system.
So she inhaled deeply.
“Vi, why do you smell like pine trees?”
Wolf. Vi made a short howl sound.
“Oh , is that a wolf thing?”
Caitlyn felt Vi ’ s tail surrounded her tighter than before.
“Huh, okay. You know, I’ ve always had a theory that people was like that too. Have their own smells. Too bad we’re too dense to notice.”
It ’ s hardly news to her. Wolfs and other animals have way more sensitive smells than people.
Which is why she ’ s suddenly curious.
“Can you?”
Caitlyn looked at Vi and the latter nodded after a few seconds.
“You can? Really? Well, what do I smell like?”
She wanted to know this especially after she now knew what Vi smelled like. Vi, on the other hand went for the pencil and the paper that Caitlyn had put on the bedside table as an emergency communication measure.
“If you’re writing cupcake with your teeth, I swear to all the goodness in my heart that it won’t be the dentist who gets that rotten one out of you.”
Caitlyn said while stroking along Vi ’ s back lovingly.
Vi visibly s wallow ed .
I fucking knew it. Caitlyn Kiramman was no doubt very proud of herself.
“ c up ... of coffee.”
Nice save, Vi
“Aw, really? You know, c onsidering how many cups I drank every day, somehow that makes perfect sense.”
The Sheriff pretended that she didn ’ t notice how nervous Vi was being and smiled sweetly at the paper in her hands.
“Good job, W olfie.” Caitlyn patted Vi ’ s head.
And that ’ s when the light bulb was lit.
“That’s it! That’ll be MY nickname to you! You have Cupcake, and I have Wolfie!”
She said excitingly and clapped her hands but her expression soon changed when Vi snored.
“Do you prefer big ass dog?”
Caitlyn used her Sheriff voice and deadpanned.
Vi shook her head even though she was pouting as hard as she could as a wolf.
“That’s what I thought.”
Caitlyn gave Vi ’ s nose one last peck.
“Good night, W olfie. Sweet dreams.”
Safely being held by her werewolf of a girlfriend, Caitlyn Kiramman decided that today wasn ’ t so bad after all.
