Work Text:
Today wasn’t the first time that Sasha felt alone. Although her past 4 years at Hogwarts have been filled with adventures with Marcy and Anne, she knew deep down that her future would be lonely. For who could ever love a monster?
. . . . . . .
The fall morning brought a cold chill to the Slytherin dungeons. Sasha climbed out of bed and regretted stepping on the cold tiles. Begrudgingly she hopped in the shower and started her morning routine. Upon leaving the shower her eyes lingered on the 3 lined scar adorning her left ribs. After 9 years of living with it, she never got used to it’s jagged appearance.
Haphazardly throwing on her robe she proceeded upstairs to the great hall for breakfast. Walking toward the Hufflepuff table she quickly spots Anne and Marcy.
“Good morning Sash!” Anne says, grabbing a piece of toast. Marcy gives me a smile and a nod, not really taking her eyes away from her latest muggle tech obsession.
Sasha gives both her friends a tight lip smile and a nod before filling her plate. Anne notices her odd behavior, but chooses not to comment on it just yet
.
“Did you all think Professor Yunan’s exam yesterday went well?” “I didn’t really get the chance to study much in between quidditch practice.” Anne says.
“Wasn’t too bad, she seemed to base it on more of her stories than anything from the textbook.” Marcy replies.
Sasha meanwhile has been zoning in and out of their conversation while slowly storing her spoon in oatmeal.
“What do you think Sash?” “Um..Sasha are you listening? Anne asks.
“Uh, what? Oh yeah..Um..it was really good, great actually.” Sasha stammers out.
-If I keep dazing in and out they’re going to think something is up with me-. Sasha thinks.
Anne gives Sasha a look of confusion and nudges Marcy. Marcy looks up from her handheld game and gives Anne a questioning look.
“Sasha, are you feeling alright? You’ve been acting kinda weird this morning..” Anne says softly.
“I’m not acting weird! You’re the one who’s acting weird!” Sasha grits out.
-Wow way to go Sasha! Now they’re really going to think something’s up!- Sasha internally groans.
Anne grimaces, but tries to bring back a smile.“Sasha, you know you can talk to us right? We’ve been best friends since you told those 5th years to leave Marcy and I alone on the train. Please let us know what’s up, we can try to help!” Anne gives Sasha a hopeful smile.
“Yeah Sasha you know we have your back!” Marcy adds cheerfully.
“Sorry guys I just didn’t get a lot of sleep last night, that’s why I’m acting strange.”Sasha states. She gazes between her two friends and decides to leave the story there.
Anne speaks up, “Hey, I have an idea! Why don’t we do a sleepover like we used to do as 2nd years?”
“I would love to do that!” Exclaims Marcy.
“I don’t know guys.. I have a lot of homework to catch upon tonight.” Sasha says. She knows deep down that it’s a lie, but she can’t tell the girls why she’s really busy.
“Pleaseeeeeeeeee!” Both girls plead, giving Sasha their infamous Puppy dog eyes.
“Ugh fine, but we’re going to Anne’s dorm.” Says Sasha.
“Aw yeah! Girls night!” Anne cheers.
……………
Later that night..
-Okay, if I get my bag together and hide it outside the common room door, I might have enough time to reach the shack before the moon rises.- Sasha worries to herself.
Sasha reaches the Hufflepuff door and repeats the pattern on the barrels. Once inside she lays her bag by the potted plant by the door. She makes her way up the stairs to Anne’s room.
Anne and Marcy have already raided the kitchen and gotten the group's favorites. They even managed to snag her some Honeyduke’s chocolate. Sasha smiles knowing that her girls remembered her favorite snack.
“Hey Sasha! We’re just getting started painting our nails, what color do you want?” Anne asks, patting a space on the floor beside her.
“Red I guess?” Sasha replies. She knows that the transformation will just tear her nails up anyway, but she loves any chance for Anne to hold her hand.
Anne begins to paint her nails while Marcy plugs in a muggle looking music device. Being a pureblood Sasha never really knew about muggle technology until she became friends with Marcy. The girl loves to tinker with and show her friends new tech.
A gentle song plays in the background while the girls wait for their nails to dry. Marcy lays her head in Anne’s lap while Anne gives her a shy smile. Sasha is leaning into Anne’s side and gently closing her eyes. The moment is almost perfect.
A pained groan pulls the girls from their relaxing moment. Sasha jumps up from the floor and immediately runs towards the stairs. Both Anne and Marcy yell for her, but she’s already gone. Sasha grabs her bag and takes two steps at a time. Ignoring the voices of her distraught friends.
Her eyes sting with unshed tears as she races through the courtyard toward the Shrieking Shack. It’s times like these that she wishes her friend knew her secret. She makes it to the shack barely in time before the transformation starts to take her.
Both Anne and Marcy catch up in time to see Sasha slam the door to the shack.
The girls hear the tearing of clothes and the pained whimpers of their friend. After a moment of agony, the air goes silent.
Anne shakingly calls out “Sasha, are you okay? We’re really worried about you..should we get the headmaster?”
A loud howl pierced the night and made the girls clamp their hands over their ears.
Marcy grabs Anne’s arm and pulls her back from the now shaking door.
All of a sudden the door busts off it’s hinges and in its frame is a large blonde wolf.
Anne and Marcy fearfully look at each other and whisper, “Is that Sasha?”
The wolf perked up its ears and narrowed its golden eyes at the two girls.
“Does she recognize us?” Marcy shakingly asks.
The wolf growls and stalks closer to the girls.
“ I- I don’t think so marc…I- I think we need to run” Anne whispers.
Anne grabs Marcy’s hand and shifts her eyes toward the castle. “ On the count of 3 we run!” “ 1..2…3!!”
The girls immediately take off toward the castle running as fast as they can go.
“Anne! We won’t be able to outrun the wolf!” “We need to think of something quickly!” Marcy breathlessly exclaims.
“ Wait, I have an Idea! Accio Firebolt!” Anne yells. Anne’s broom comes racing through the air, coming to a stop right in front of them.
“Hop on Marce, we gotta go!” Anne shrieks. Both girls mount the broom just in time to miss a swipe of claws.
Anne lands the broom in the courtyard and haphazardly dismounts before laying on the ground. Marcy joins her as they both try to catch their breath.
“I didn’t know that Sasha was a werewolf.” “Did you?” Anne asks, turning her head to look at Marcy.
“Nope.” “It does now make sense why she was acting strange at breakfast.” Marcy adds.
“ I feel bad that we didn’t know this about her. We’re friends, I thought we weren’t supposed to keep secrets?” Anne replies, frustration evident on her face.
“ I just wish we could have helped her.” Anne puts her hands on her face, trying to hold back tears.
“ Anne, maybe Sasha was waiting for the right time to tell us? “ Maybe she was afraid of how we'd react? “ Marcy inquires, resting her hand in Anne’s hair.
“ I know one thing, our friend is never going to be left alone again!” Anne says determinedly.
“Come on Marcy, we should get some stuff ready for Sasha in the morning and head to sleep.”Anne tiredly replies.
“ You bet Anna Banana.” Replied Marcy. Together they walked hand in hand back to the Hufflepuff common room for some rest.
……………..
Morning
Sasha wakes up to the rising sun and is surprisingly feeling warm. She opens her eyes to find the unfamiliar sight of a wool Ravenclaw blanket covering her naked body. She was used to the feeling of the cold ground upon waking up, but not this.
Running the sleep out of her eyes she turns her head to see Anne and Marcy holding her stack of clothes. A warm feeling settled in her chest, but she ignored it for the bubbling feeling of fear.
“What are you doing out here! You could have been killed?! Do you know what could have happened if I bit one of you all?! Sasha furiously says. “You would turn into a monster like me!” Tears leak from Sasha's eyes as she drops to her knees.
She couldn’t believe that her friends would be this careless. -They’re probably terrified of me, I bet they can’t even look at me- Sasha thinks.
“You’re wrong.” Anne says.
“What? What do you mean I’m wrong? Sasha stares at Anne and Marcy blinking through her tears.
“You’re not a monster, Sash.” “ You’re our friend and we love you.” Anne says with as much adoration as she can muster.
“Yeah Sash, you’re still you. The same old strong, funny, protective, and beautiful girl we know.” Marcy blushes.
Sasha tears begin to dry and she rushes to the girl to give them a big hug. “Thank you both, I really don’t know what I would do without you.” Sasha whispers.
“We will always be here for you Sasha.” Marcy and Anne both say.
*clears throat* “Not to uh..kill the mood guys, but Sasha is still naked..” Marcy states, face turning red.
Anne and Sasha’s faces resemble tomatoes as they scramble to find Sasha’s clothes. It was hard to stay on task between the blushes and giggles.
As the girls walked back to the castle for breakfast,. Sasha felt for the first time not alone.
