Big Red and Ashlyn were seen as one out of two couple goals of the drama club, and when that is one of your titles, and your best friends are struggling… yeah, interruptions were normal!
They were having a date night at Big Red’s house, and just as Big Red was about to tell Ashlyn three very special words, his phone rang. Sighing, he looked at his phone to see who was calling him. Of course…
“Hi Ricky, what’s up?”
“Big Red, I really need your help,”
As mentioned, interruptions weren't uncommon for the two. Ricky, Gina, EJ, Kourtney, their parents… it was always someone.
So during one of their rehearsals for the fall musical Aladdin. Big Red, who had gotten the role of Abu, so he got to spend quite a bit of time with both his girlfriend (who was casted as a genderbent Genie) and of course, their Aladdin, Seb… was not exactly the happiest. Right now though, they were working on a scene with just Aladdin and Abu.
“That’s great! Okay, let’s take a quick five before going over the next scene,” Miss Jenn said and everyone scattered.
Big Red, sat down on one of the chairs and sighed as he thought to himself. Someone sat down beside him.
“What’s the matter, Big Red?” Seb asked, worried for his friend.
“It’s nothing,” The redhead faked a smile, but then the blonde raised an eyebrow at him.
“Come on, tell me what’s up. And is there anything I can do to help?” The way the lead gave him a reassuring smile, got Big Red to let his guard down over this.
“I want to tell Ashlyn that I love her, and I’ve tried multiple times but, like, every time I try… someone interrupts us and ruins the moment,” He explains quietly.
“Ooh, I’m sorry Red, that’s really sad. Saying you love someone for the first time is supposed to be special, but I get that the moment is ruined when others keep interrupting you,”
“Have you and Carlos said that yet?” Big Red asked after a few moments of not really being sure what to say.
“Yeah!” Seb had a giddy smile, a smile that always showed up when he thought about Carlos. “We said it at the camp! You know when we were gone from the campfire,” He told him cheerfully. The redhead thought back for a moment. He did remember not seeing the other couple at the campfire that one time, and when they had arrived they had bright smiles on their faces, barely looking away from one another. It had all made sense.
“Right, that explains a lot!”
After rehearsals, Seb met up with his boyfriend who had been busy rehearsing another scene with Kaden, as Kaden was playing his father The Sultan. Miss Jenn had wanted to take a different approach to Aladdin then she had with Beauty and The Beast, and she wanted to focus a bit more on chemistry so she had casted Carlos to be Seb’s Jasmine.
“Hey honey,” The brunette said brightly. Seb beamed at him before giving him a short kiss.
“Hey love, how did your rehearsal go?” The blonde asked, wrapping his arms around his waist.
“It went well! How did yours go?” Carlos responded as he wrapped his own arms over Seb’s shoulders.
“It went great, though Big Red wasn’t the happiest over other reasons,” He explained with a little smile on his face, hinting that he had an idea.
“Oh? What was it?”
Seb looked around before he leaned in and whispered into Carlos’ ear.
“He wants to tell Ashlyn that he loves her but everyone keeps interrupting his chances,” As soon as he pulled back, he noticed the smile on his boyfriend’s face.
“We got to help them!”
The couple began planning as soon as they arrived at Carlos’ place.
“Okay, so I think it should be at a place that matters a lot to them, and we have to make sure that no one interrupts, but how can we do that?” The brunette began as they sat down on the couch, deep in thought.
“To get our friends to stop interrupting, we can tell them to contact us instead if they need anything,” Seb suggested. Carlos nodded and smiled at him.
“I like that! What about their parents?”
After a few minutes of thinking in silence, Carlos got a lightbulb moment.
“We have to talk with Kourtney and EJ, I got an idea!”
First they called Kourtney.
“Hey Kourt!” Seb said happily when she picked up. Kourtney got the role of Dalia in the musical. Originally, she was only in the live-action, but Miss Jenn had thought, why not? Let’s bring her in.
“Hey Sebby, Hey Carlos! What’s up?” She asked. Luckily, this was one of her days off.
“We’re trying to help Big Red with something special , so we were wondering if you could make sure that his parents don't call for him to work at Slices this Friday?” Carlos explained to the assistant manager. Kourtney raised an eyebrow, a bit confused.
“Sure, what are you helping him with?”
Quickly Seb explained the conversation he and Big Red had earlier that day making Kourtney awe.
“You two are the sweetest for wanting to help with that,”
“What can we say? We love love,” Seb joked lightly as he looked over at Carlos with an adoring look on his face. Kourtney rolled her eyes fondly before promising that she’d help, and then they hung up because she had a test to practise for.
They then called EJ. He was going to the University of Utah, only minutes away from East High.
“Heeey, it’s my favourite couple! What’s up?” He said a bit jokingly after picking up. Said couple laughed.
“Hi EJ, we need your help,” Seb said with a smile.
They explained how Big Red wanted to tell Ashlyn that he loves her, but they can’t have people, nor their parents to call on either of them. They got Big Red’s parents under control, so now they need Ashlyn’s parents too, to not interrupt this Friday.
“I could talk with my parents about inviting them over for dinner? Say that I’ll be there so they don’t think any funny business is happening nor feel the need to call. I’ll not actually be there though,” He suggested.
“Yes, that would be amazing!” Carlos exclaimed, happy that they can help their friends out with this.
The following day, Ashlyn walked up to the two in the cafeteria.
“Did you two fix an opportunity for Biggie and I to have a date without people bothering us this Friday?” She asked, a bright smile on her face. The two smiled and nodded.
“Yeah, you two deserve peace and quiet for once!” Seb chuckled. The girl laughed happily before hugging the two.
“Thank you.”
That Friday, Big Red arrived only minutes after Ashlyn’s parents had left. Ashlyn had cooked dinner for the two and set the table nicely for a romantic date night.
Everything was pretty much perfect. No one interrupted them. No calls. No texts. Just them.
After dinner, they put on a classic romcom, made popcorn and snuggled up on the couch. Big Red smiled to himself, he had the chance now. It was just him and Ashlyn!
“Ash?” He asked softly. The girl in question turned her head and looked at him, a soft smile on her face making Big Red’s heart beat louder than normal.
“Yes?”
The boy took a deep breath before he finally uttered out those words he’s wanted to tell her for weeks now.
“I love you,”
Ashlyn’s smile widened as she sat a bit more up, taking Big Red’s hands in hers.
“I love you too Biggie!” She giggled, before pulling him into a kiss. They couldn’t stop smiling into it, but they still managed to pour out the exact feeling they were feeling for each other.
