Work Text:
“MIKEYWAY!” Mikey woke with a start, nearly headbutting Pete who was about 4 inches away from his face. Mikey’s head fell back onto the pillow with a soft thump .
“Jesus Christ, Pete.” He grumbled. Pete looked entirely too excited for whatever was causing him to wake Mikey up at- a bleary glance at the large digital clock on the nightstand revealed the time. “It’s barely 7 in the morning, what’s going on?”
“I have a surprise for you!” Mikey blinked slowly.
“Is the surprise that you’re letting me go back to bed?” Pete pouts and Mikey sighs in defeat. “Fine, fine.” Mikey pushes Pete off of him, huffing a laugh when Pete lands next to him with an offended oof.
“Rude.” Pete gets up from the bed much faster than Mikey, and leads him down the stairs. “But since today is your day, I’ll let it slide.” Mikey puts on his glasses and raises an eyebrow, amused.
“And what exactly is today?” Pete stops dead in his tracks, causing Mikey to nearly bump into him and throw them both down the stairs.
“You don’t know what today is?!” Pete yelps.
“Pete, it’s 7:02 AM. Of course I don’t know what today is.” He chuckles. Pete makes a startled noise and practically drags Mikey the rest of the way down the stairs. When they reach the kitchen, Mikey is certainly surprised. There’s a neon-colored banner strung above the kitchen doorway that reads “HAPPY BDAY MIKEYWAY!!” Under the banner stands Patrick, holding a plate stacked with slightly burnt pancakes. Behind Patrick, Mikey can make out the mess of eggshells and dirty pans littering the counter.
“Surprise.” Patrick says, looking as tired as Mikey feels. Pete jumps next to Patrick, giving Mikey a blinding grin.
“Ta-da!” Mikey looks between the two of them; the bright grin on Pete’s face, the quiet amusement on Patrick’s, and laughs.
“You two are dorks.” He says. Patrick makes an offended noise, but is quickly mollified by the soft kiss Mikey gives him before doing the same for Pete. “Thank you.” Patrick’s soft smile is a present in itself.
“We wanted to have breakfast with you before work.” Patrick explains.
“That sounds wonderful.” Mikey tells them, sitting at the table and letting his boyfriends fill his plate.
“Try them! I wanna know how they came out.” Pete demands. Mikey rolls his eyes affectionately, but obliges. Pete quietly relishes the surprised look on Mikey’s face.
“Are these lemon pancakes?” He asks. Pete nods enthusiastically.
“I know that they're your favorite." Pete grins. "It took a couple tries but we got it eventually!” Patrick narrows his eyes slightly.
“If by a couple of tries, you mean that you nearly burned our house down before dragging me out of bed at ass-o-clock in the morning, then yeah.” Patrick deadpans.
“Okay, you don’t have to rub it in like that.”
“Someone has to keep your ego down.” Mikey gives him a high five for that before chasing away Pete’s pout with a kiss.
“They’re amazing, Pete. Thank you for this.” He smiles softly at them.
“Happy birthday, Mikey.”
