Work Text:
Weller liked Rich. He wouldn't admit it, but the boisterous man had grown on him. Plus, he was useful. Though he didn't know him as well or for nearly as long Weller felt similarly about Boston. In his opinion, if the two men could work some things out they would be a solid couple.
But now he was being told they wanted more. They wanted his girl. Well- Patterson would hit him if he said that. She was his sister. Sort of.
He was being overly protective according to Jane. Who was currently whispering calming things in his ear. And rubbing his back. And probably ready to pin him to the ground if he lunged for the men in front of him.Which was still a possibility, even if he wouldn't get far.
When he ended his staring contest with the tiled floor to plan his attack, he found his targets blocked. Between the boys and himself stood Patterson. Shit. And she was frowning. At him. Ouch.
Only a few minutes before she had been vibrating with nervous energy and excitement. Behind her, the two boys (men, the rational part of his brain insisted) were holding hands. He was quite pleased to see a small measure of fear in their eyes. At least until he registered that they didn't seem to be afraid of him. They were afraid for Patterson.
Patterson. To say she's unlucky in love would be an understatement. And now she seemed determined to protect these men. He also understood that although she very much wanted his approval she didn't need it. Nor, judging by her expression did she ever need to see him again. Weller took a deep breath and forced himself to relax. In response, his wife straightened and his friends tensed.
He stood up as he exhaled, "Welcome to the family, guys".
