Aizawa didn’t even notice how uncomfortable the plastic chair was anymore while he sat on it, waiting for his student to wake up. It had been a normal training session until Izuku once again broke one of his bones. After scolding the teary eyed kid, Aizawa had send him to Recovery Girl, expecting him to be back at the end of the class. Only to get informed that Izuku had lost consciousness after his treatment and wasn’t waking up.
And after that, things only went further downwards. Because his colleagues found out that the boy had been hiding something very big from them – Izuku was homeless. Since they couldn’t ask him yet, they didn’t know for how long the greenette had been living on the streets, but his malnourished and weak state told them quite a bit. While All Might was busy beating himself up for not noticing anything, Nedzu and Recovery Girl tried to contact Midoriya Inko. But the emergency contact didn’t work and they had no idea where that woman was. If you’d asked Aizawa, it was a good thing they couldn’t get a hold of her right now. Because he knew Izuku and there was no way that boy would choose to life on the streets if he had a choice. While Izuku tended to be reckless, he wasn’t an idiot. His guts told Aizawa that there was something really wrong.
Sighing deeply, Aizawa looked over to the small body buried under a pile of blankets. The kid was still out. He just hoped that Izuku would wake up soon or else he would have to spend the night at the school’s infirmary, watching him.
Thankfully though, Izuku woke up about half an hour later when the sun was about to set. His green eyes blinked open and widened when the young boy looked around.
“W-what happened?,” he asked and pushed the blankets aside, grimacing at the infusion in his arm. As if summoned, Recovery Girl entered the room.
“Ah, you’ve woken up again. I’ve been worrying, Midoriya-kun,” she said and went to check on her patient. Izuku looked at Aizawa in confusion. The pro hero just shrugged. He wasn’t going to tell Izuku when he knew that Recovery Girl was about to give the poor boy a piece of her mind. And he also knew that the kid wasn’t going to like what they had found out so he was going to wait before talking to him because he knew that the kid was somewhat skittish around him. Better not to make him more uncomfortable then necessary.
“You are heavily malnourished and because of that, my attempt at healing your bone took more of your stamina than you had. I’d say your bones broke way easier because of that as well. We tried to contact your mother…,” Recovery Girl explained while she took out the IV and both heroes noticed the visible flinch at the mention of Midoriya Inko.
“We couldn’t find your mother though. So we did some digging,” Recovery Girl went on and explained to Izuku what they had found out. The boy looked so much like a kicked kitten right now, yet he wasn’t explaining anything about his condition. Frowning, Aizawa noticed the cautious and calculating look behind the worry and panic in those green eyes. What the hell did this kid go through?

After scolding the boy for not taking care of himself and not asking his teachers for help, Recovery Girl gave Izuku the clear to leave and told him to rest. While the kid got dressed behind the curtain, Aizawa stood and stretched. He had an uneasy feeling in his gut, telling him that his night wasn’t over any time soon. Because the entire conversation, he had seen that haunted look on his student’s face and it made him feel really bad. Much to his surprise however, it was Izuku himself who addressed the next pressing question when he came back from getting dressed.
“Sensei? What’s going to happen to me now?” Green eyes looked at Aizawa and the teacher was once more surprised by the serious expression the other wore. A child of Izuku’s age wasn’t supposed to look like this, not even the ones out to become heroes and face society’s worst.
“You will come and live with me,” Aizawa answered and watched Izuku’s reaction like a hawk. The kid frowned but nodded slowly, not disagreeing yet.
Explaining further, Aizawa kept talking: “None of us teachers really trusts the system because there have been too many cases of quirk discrimination and other issues, so we agreed that it would be best for you to life with one of us until everything’s legally sorted out. It would be helpful if you’d be completely honest with us about your condition and everything but we won’t be doing this today. Since I volunteered, you’ll be my guest for the time being.”
Izuku’s frown deepened. “Can’t I just stay at school? I don’t want to be a bother…,” he mumbled, lowering his head.
Huffing, Aizawa shook his head. “Don’t be ridiculous. You won’t be a bother. Besides, Recovery Girl just said that your health needs to be monitored quite closely for a while now. It’ll be easier this way too. Now come, I’d prefer to sleep in my own bed tonight instead of this chair.”

Their ride home was spend in silence. From the corner of his eye, Aizawa watched Izuku look out of the window, an unreadable expression on his face. Aizawa just prayed that his problem child wasn’t planning to run away or something equally reckless. When they finally reached their destination, parked the car and made their way up to the apartment in question, Aizawa stopped, the key in the door’s lock, turning to face Izuku.
“Here we are. There is… just one more thing,” Aizawa said and hesitated. The look on Izuku’s face and the reply that moment of hesitation earned him made the pro hero regret his actions right away though.
“Look, sensei, I understand if you changed your mind. I’ll just go and return tomorrow. I won’t tell anyone about it, I promise,” Izuku said, a faux smile on his face as he stepped backwards, ready to leave. It was almost as if he had been waiting for Aizawa to change his mind and turn him down. Panicking, Aizawa reached out and grabbed Izuku by his wrist, causing his student to flinch. Aizawa let go of him again instantly, but the damage was done. Izuku was trembling, his eyes wide and pupils dilated.
“Damn, kid, I’m sorry,” Aizawa said, kneeling down in front of him. “Please, that’s not what I meant. Come on, just… listen to me, okay?”
It took a moment, but eventually, Izuku nodded, taking a couple of deep breaths to calm himself down again. Sighing in relief, Aizawa looked down onto the floor to gather his words once more.
“What I meant is, that there is something I need to tell you first. I’m not living alone. In fact… I’m living with my husband. I… would really appreciate it if you would keep this info to yourself. Can you do that?”
Looking up, Aizawa caught the disbelieving look Izuku wore, but also a flicker of relief in his green eyes.
“Oh… of course. I’ll keep quiet. But,” and now the hesitation was back, “are you sure you want me to stay at yours? What if your husband doesn’t… I mean, does he know you want me to stay at yours? Is he okay with it?”
Aizawa couldn’t help but smile. “Oh, he knows and he certainly doesn’t mind. In fact… don’t be scared, but he might be a bit too happy about you moving in with us. I hope you won’t get too overwhelmed. He had a few hours to prepare for your arrival. I hope, he didn’t go overboard…”
With that being said, Aizawa got back up onto his feet and turned to key, opening the door for them.
And he regretted it immediately. There were balloons, a big sign that read “Welcome Izuku!” and Aizawa could hear noises from the kitchen. Seemed like his husband prepared dinner for them. Sighing, he glanced at Izuku. The problem child did look slightly overwhelmed, but he didn’t run. Yet. Shaking his head, Aizawa took his shoes off and watched Izuku do the same. Together, they made their way into the apartment.
“Zashi?,” Aizawa called, even though he knew where his husband was.
“Kitchen!”
Looking at Izuku, Aizawa asked: “If you wanna use the restroom, now is the last chance before Hizashi will come around and greet you in person.”
Even though the greenette looked ready to bolt, he shook his head. They heard footsteps approach, and then Hizashi was there, smiling his sunshine smile at them both.
“Welcome home, Sho! Welcome Izuku! I’m so glad you’re here!,” Hizashi said, visibly holding himself back from tackling the kid in a hug.
“M-mic-sensei? Present Mic is your husband?,” Izuku whisper-yelled, eyes wide. Aizawa could basically hear the wheels turning inside the kid’s head.
“Yeah, he is,” Aizwa answered, taking off his capture weapon. He watched his blonde closely. Hizashi was visibly excited and holding back from going all Hizashi on Izuku. He was rocking back and forth on his heels, arms behind his back, eyes beaming. But it seemed like Izuku was slowly growing used to it because the longer he was there and the more small talk they made, the more his posture relaxed and he didn’t even flinch when one of their cats brushed against his legs in greeting. That had to be a good sign, right?
“Izuku?,” he asked after a while, eyeing the both of them. They had been talking for a few minutes now, Izuku asking a lot about how long they had been together and when they had moved in and of course, Hizashi was eagerly answering all of his questions. If he hadn’t been so much in love with his husband, he would’ve… right, scratch that. It was impossible not to love this loud blonde.
“Would you like to see your room before we eat dinner together?”
“M-my… room? My own room?” There was so much wonder in Izuku’s voice about the prospect of having his own room that it caused Aizawa’s heart to ache. How long has it been since the kid had anyone treat him like he was worth the most basic things? Way too long of you asked him.
Hizashi beat him answering that question and whatever self-control his husband had shown crumbled down as well. He stepped forward, tears in his yellow-green eyes and wrapped his arms around Izuku in a hug.
“Yes, your own room. Of course you get your own room. And your own bed, your own place on the couch and at the dinner table, your own towel and toothbrush. You get everything and more, Izuku. You deserve it all,” Hizashi rambled, voice tight with emotion.
Izuku blinked, looking at Aizawa for help while also petting Hizashi’s arm awkwardly. He was sure that Izuku was too overwhelmed now. Oh goodness, hopefully it wouldn’t be too much for him. There was a lot they would have to re-teach their student and kid.
Locking eyes with Hizashi, Aizawa saw the silent question in them and nodded. They had talked about adopting a kid before and seeing Izuku like this… there was no way either of them would let him go live someone else, not if Izuku didn’t want to. If he would have them, Izuku would be theirs from now on.
“Ok-kay,” Izuku said, his voice barely a whisper. But there was a flicker of his fighting spirit in his eyes, the same spirit that made Aizawa realize his potential on his first day at U.A. Smiling at him, Aizawa nodded. There was a long way to go ahead of them, but he knew they would make it. Together.
As a family.
*End!*
(And just like that, Aizawa got himself a problem child to his husband and multiple cats.)
