Work Text:

Akaashi sat on the bed in the middle of the room awaiting his fate. It was a cool night. There was a gentle breeze that came from the open window causing the curtains to sway. Akaashi could hear the leaves rustling outside. If he listened closely he could hear the crashing waves of the ocean. That sound used to comfort him. It was the sound that used to lull him to sleep throughout his childhood. Today that sound did nothing but remind him how far away he was from his home. The sound of the waves were much furthers away then they were in the palace of Aoba Johsai.

No amount of books or reading could prepare him for what was about to happen. His life had changed so drastically in such a short amount of time. As an orphaned omega it was almost inevitable that his life would lead to something like this. But for some reason he thought that he would be different. He thought that since he knew who his parents were, and knew his lineage that somehow that his fate would not end up like so many omegas that worked in the tea houses back at home. Alas, the fates decided that he would be no different. Yes, his clientele would be farther up the social ladder but the outcome was all the same.

Suddenly he could hear the roar of the revelers on the other side of the castle grow louder. He could hear music, laughing and singing. Then the sound of the revery had stopped. Someone had left the party. Akaashi remained frozen on the bed as he listened to the foot steps. They were steady as they came down the hall. They kept coming closer and closer to his door. Would this be it? Would this be the start of him submitting to an alpha for the rest of his life to keep his people safe? The foot steps seemed to turn and go down another hallway. Maybe that was one of the guards? Maybe it was one of the advisors or lords? What were the customs of this kingdom? Who els stayed in the palace other than the royal family? Was it just the advisors like at home or did the lords stay here as well? Akaashi couldn't remember. He knew that he had read it. He had studied it actually. But now he was drawing a blank. He wanted so desperately to run to his books and get lost in them. To remind himself of everything he knew about this kingdoms culture.

What uses were they to him now. He was just some kings plaything. With some hope he would give the king an heir, he thought. That was a slim chance and he knew it. The time between his heat cycles were abnormally long. It took an entire year after he first presented before most Alphas ever noticed that he was an Omega. Hell, it was only after reading a book trying to solve the reason why his body was so warm and had a need for something he could not describe that he even realized that he had presented as an Omega and he was in heat. If only his body would do what his mind told it to do, maybe he would not be in this situation. If he could just have presented as a Beta life would be so simple. He could have easily just continued to be an advisor to his cousin and help him rule over his country. He would be happy with that. He was happy doing that. But of course his royal blood would not allow him such a luxury. It wouldn't take in the account that he was the last of the Akaashi's. That they were no longer rulers. As if his lineage couldn't help but protest that fact, he just had to be the rarest of all genders, a male Omega.

The sound from the banquet hall rose again and then became silent. Akaashi could hear heavy footsteps at they came down the hall. They came closer and closer. Akaashi held his breath. Steps paused right out side his door. Then they coutinued past it. He listened as the foot steps went farther away from him and ended with the slamming of a door. Maybe he would not be taken tonight. Maybe the king was too tired or too drunk to sample his new present.

He missed home. He missed his cousin. Without his cousins protection, he was no longer considered royal.  He was simply an omega meant to to be bred and submit to an alpha.  His knowledge of history and battle strategy would not help him here. He sat in a room bathed in the red light of the cluster of red lanterns that illuminated his room.  Was this even his room?  Was it just the room that the king only used to bed his courtesans? Akaashi didn't know.  He had only arrived at the palace only a hour ago and no one had given him any instructions as to how things would work here.  All he knew was that the king would soon arrive and he would be mounted, bred and claimed.  He would then officially become one of the kings courtesans.  The king would then become his alpha, not his mate.  The kings marriage to a neighboring princess had been planned long before he had ever presented.  He was just a plaything that king could use until he got bored.
The noise of from the banquet hall rose and fell again. Akaashi could hear foot steps coming down the hall.  He took a deep breath.  He knew. This was the king. His fate was coming. Akaashi could smell the kings sent as he came closer to his door.  He glance at the full glass of wine that sat on a table in the corner of the room.  The attendance had offered the glass of wine to him when he first arrived.  He had refused to drink it.  He always liked keeping his wits about him. The wine was most likely drugged with something to make him more pliable for this night.  Maybe he should have taken the wine. Maybe it would make him not remember anything that was about to happen to night. Maybe he should drink it.

The door cracks open.

It was too late.  The king was here.  Akashi touched his collar and said a private prayer as his fingers rubbed his family seal engraved on the stone there.  He prays that for this night to go well.  That what he was about to do was in-fact for the good of his country.  Akaashi held his breath as the large figure of a man entered the room closing the door behind him, sealing his fate.

Notes:

Hi Guys. Thank you for reading. This sounds like a great intro to a multi chapter story, right? I agree. But I am not sure if I will get to it as fast as I want to. I have posted it here so I can keep it on my mind. Let me know what you think.
