Many hours later, the group, except for Stina and Fitz who were in the delivery room, and Maruca and Jensi who couldn't get off work, were in the waiting room of the women's center. Alden and Della, along with Timkinn and Vika were away for work with the council but would be there as soon as they could.
As they waited, Keefe distracted Ada, playing with her stuffies and swiping whipped cream from their cinacreme onto the little girl's nose, as well as his own. The two of them were smiling and seemed like they were having fun.
Sophie’s eyes softened at the sight as she looked fondly at the two of them, she could tell how good he was with her, he would be an amazing dad, and part of her felt disappointed that the test was negative those weeks ago.
Before she could think about it any longer Fitz came to meet them in the living room.
“It's a girl, 6 pounds 2 ounces,” he announced, a smile on his face. They exchanged hugs before Keefe handed him Adda, who seemed excited to meet her new baby sister. Not wanting to overwhelm the baby, they decided to stagger their visitations.
They couldn't visit for another couple of hours, but when they could, since Biana was the only biological family present, except for Adda, who Fitz had taken to see her, she and Tam were the first to see the baby, and Biana was the first to hold her after Fitz and Stina of course. But when Tam was given the opportunity, he turned it down saying that Keefe should go first, since he was Fitz’s best friend and he’s closer.
That prompted Biana to hand the baby back to Stina as they went to get Keefe and Sophie. However, at that point the baby was asleep so they could have more of them in there. The rest of their group joined them in the room, marveling at the baby.
“You want to hold her?” Stina gently asked Keefe, who was looking at the baby. When he nodded, she gently placed the baby in his arms and he looked down to see the baby, asleep sticking her tongue out.
“Hi…” he started gently before adding “I'm going to need a name”.
“Meet your niece, Tessa Arya Vacker”
Seeing the look on Keefe’s face was priceless and he seemed to be tearing up, but seeing him with Tessa made her long for that, a family for the two of them.
“Why is Keefe crying?” Dex asked, slightly confused.
“I'm not crying, I just got dust in my eye…”
“His parents thought he was going to be a girl, they had a name picked out and then Keefe turned out to be a Boy, but his mom didn't want to get rid of the other name, so it became his middle name,” Fitz explained.
“And technically Keefe’s full name is Keefe Tessa Sencen” finished Biana.
“Are you sure-” Keefe started but Stina cut him off.
“Yes! I'm sure Keefe, you’re a big part of our lives. You’ve always been there for the both of us and hey- you managed to keep Fitz alive for this long, so, we owe it all to you!”
A few moments later, Keefe gently handed Tessa over to Sophie and went to hug the new parents.
As Sophie looked down at the little girl in her arms, something just clicked. She had never thought of having kids, that was before she had met Keefe. Meeting him had changed her life, even if she didn't know it when they first met. Now that they were together though, she knew what she wanted.
