Chapter Text
It all starts with anal fingering and a gun.
“Okay. I dunno who the hell ya are but...” Atsumu says cautiously, pushing himself up from the couch, slowly raising both hands in the air. “Why don’t we put the gun down so we can talk about this?”
The man’s gaze travels from Atsumu’s face, to his sticky fingers, then his torso, then his boxers and underwear bunched up around his ankles, and then his completely exposed lower half.
He probably won’t admit it out loud, but Atsumu can tell that the guy struggles a little to get his eyes to focus on his face instead of his dick. He keeps his gun pointed at him, though.
“Who are you and why the fuck were you fingering yourself in the dark, on my couch, in my apartment, at four in the fucking morning?”
“Your apart—” Atsumu gapes, shell-shocked as he looks around the barren room. “Shit. Ya live like this? What the fuck.”
The stranger looks thoroughly unimpressed.
“Look, I’m sorry. I didn’t know anyone moved in. I’m not some weird exhibitionist… I mean, I’m a little of an exhibitionist but that’s not the point.”
He makes a face. “So you just go around masturbating in empty apartments here as a habit, is that it, you pervert?”
“No! I have an explanation, I swear!” Atsumu exclaims, desperately. “But can ya put the gun down first? It’s scarin’ me. I can’t focus.”
“No.” He narrows his eyes at him, “I still don’t know who you are.”
“Atsumu! I’m Miya Atsumu! And does it look like I’m a threat? My pants are down and I have lubed up fingers, c’mon man! This isn’t a fair fight!”
The man examines him for a while longer, before decidedly lowering his gun.
He regards Atsumu with a judging expression plastered all over his face, before asking, “Why are you acting all weirded out about me moving in?”
This time, it’s Atsumu’s turn to look baffled.
“Dude. Yer in MSBY territory right now, ya know that, right?”
The man just tilts his head in response. Atsumu is only beginning to notice that said man is really fucking sexy.
He almost wishes that he’d come in bringing a condom instead of a loaded gun.
“So?” Atsumu continues, finally lowering his hands from their position in the air, “Why’re ya here? Who do you owe? Who’d ya piss off? Who’d ya kill?”
At those questions, the man raises his gun again.
Atsumu flinches and asks himself when the fuck this guy is gonna let him pull his pants back up.
*record scratch* *freeze frame*
You’re probably wondering how they ended up in this situation. Let’s go back a bit.
9 HOURS BEFORE
“God damn it, Tsumu.” Osamu hisses, putting his jacket on inside out. “It was yer turn to set the fuckin’ alarm. If we lose this job, we’re never gettin’ another one ever again!”
“Well, I’m sorry, Samu. But tell me why the hell this job is forcin’ us to wake up at too-fuckin’-early o’clock in the morning.” Atsumu complains, stepping into his sneakers.
“Tsumu, it’s six pm.” Osamu deadpans. “Rin’s waitin’ out front. Hurry up. And grab breakfast that we can eat in the car without makin’ a mess. Rin will kill me.”
Atsumu picks up his jacket and puts it on, also inside out, and then grabs the half empty bag of hot cheetos on their living room table.
“This good enough?”
“Yeah.” Osamu says, opening their front door. “C’mon. Did ya at least brush yer teeth?”
“Nah, the water went all brownish and metallic again after you were done.” He says. “S’fine, the cheetos will get rid of the mornin’ breath.”
“I don’t think that’s how that works.”
“Who cares?” Atsumu rolls his eyes as they rush down the hallway. “I’m a bartender, I doubt they’ll fire me for havin’ shitty breath.”
They get to the elevator and push on the down button, only for absolutely nothing to happen in response.
“Again? Fuck, I don’t wanna run down five flights of stairs.” Osamu complains, kicking it frustratedly, adding to the multiple dents that already cover the doors. “I thought Meian got this useless thing repaired last week.”
“Well, it’s not his fault if—"
At that moment, they’re rudely interrupted by yelling noises coming from the end of the hall, and also what sounded like kitchen utensils being tossed across the room.
If they had to make a guess…
“They probably ran out of plates to throw ‘n resorted to pots ‘n pans.” Atsumu snorts.
“I hope they get divorced.” Osamu says boredly, still repeatedly pressing on the down button. “They’re always so damn loud.”
The door closest to the elevator suddenly swings open, Bokuto poking his head out and screaming.
“Hey, hey, hey! Shut the hell up! It’s six pm, people are still sleeping! And if you’re just gonna keep breaking your stuff, you might as well give them to the rest of us, so we can actually use them, you ungrateful bastards!”
“Good mornin’ to you too, Bokkun.” Atsumu greets with a smile. “Akaashi still asleep?”
Bokuto beams at them. “Oh! Miyas! Nah, Akaashi’s staying at his place for today ‘cause my dad’s visiting. You guys off to work? That elevator won’t work no matter how much you try, by the way. Almost tried to beat it up with a baseball bat yesterday.”
“Yeah, I got that.” Osamu says, motioning to the staircase nearby with his head. “We gotta run. See ya later at the club, Kou!”
The twins rush down the stairs, skipping two steps at a time.
“Hey. Didn’t ya get into trouble yesterday for somethin’ dumb?” Osamu asks in between pants, “Did ya give someone the wrong drink again?”
“No, Ushiwaka caught me gettin’ a blowie in the backroom durin’ my break.”
“Christ, Tsumu. Gross.” He pauses. “Who was it?”
“Yuuji. You know. That other new guy?” Atsumu says indifferently, “He offered and I accepted. He’s good with his mouth.”
“Well,” Osamu sighs, “Coulda been worse. Ya coulda been caught smugglin’ the day’s earnings into yer pants again.”
“Hey, we needed that money.” Atsumu argues, “We were livin’ off cup noodles and 7/11 hotdogs three times a day everyday for a fuckin’ week, remember that?”
“Yeah, then you got caught stealin’ the money and we ended up livin’ off cup noodles and 7/11 hotdogs three times a day everyday for another week. What’s yer point?”
“Atsumu-san! Osamu-san!”
They know they’ve reached the first floor when they hear that familiar, high-pitched voice. They turn their heads to greet the young couple, Kageyama Tobio and Hinata Shoyo, feeding their leftovers to the big stray dog that comes around the building everyday.
They call him The Big C because no one wants to call him by his actual name.
(“Why don’t we name the dog?” Akaashi suggests, gazing fondly at the scruffy labrador. “Make him the MSBY pet or something like that?”
“That’s a great idea, Keiji!” Bokuto exclaims excitedly, “Then, he should have a cool name fitting for a member of the MSBY!”
Osamu chuckles. “Okay, why don’t we name him after a drug or somethin’? Hey, Shoyo, what’s yer favorite drug?”
“Favorite drug?” Hinata blinks. “Uh, I dunno. Claritin?”
Hinata doesn’t understand why everyone starts laughing so hard they cry.
That day marks the first time that Atsumu had ever snorted beer out of his nose.)
“Hey, Shoyo-kun! Tobio-kun! And Big C!” Atsumu greets, waving his hand. “Off to work!”
“Take care!” Kageyama yells back, nodding at them once, before turning his attention back to the dog.
“Good luck, guys!” Hinata says, “I hope you keep your jobs for more than a few months this time!”
“Hear that, Tsumu?” Osamu points out, “Don’t go disappointin’ Shoyo-kun now.”
“Shut it, Samu.” Atsumu grunts as they finally get to the lobby. “You’ve been fired just as many times as I have.”
“Duh, I’m yer fuckin’ twin. They fire you, they fire me.” Osamu bites back, pointing to the rusty pick-up truck right outside the glass doors. “There he is.”
As they approach, they’re met with Suna glaring at them through the open car window, pressing on his car horn in annoyance.
“Beep beep, motherfuckers!” Suna yells. “Get the fuck in!”
As Atsumu and Osamu jump in one after the other, Osamu into the passenger’s seat and Atsumu in the back seat, Suna makes a face at them.
“What took you guys so fucking long? I could’ve started and finished a whole SK8 The Infinity episode in here.” He turns his attention to Atsumu, “Are ya constipated again?”
“What the f—” Atsumu sputters, “Will ya just drive and leave me alone? That was one time.”
Suna smirks and looks at Osamu. “Mornin’. C’mere, you.”
Osamu obliges with a lazy smile, leaning forward to meet him in a kiss. Atsumu sees some tongue action and takes that as his cue to look away.
“Mmm, missed ya.” Suna says against Osamu’s lips, “Haven’t seen you in forever.”
“Ya saw each other at work yesterday. Ya both disgust me.” Atsumu grumbles. “Can ya start drivin’ now? We’re gonna be late.”
“Ohoho,” Suna teases, as he begins to drive. “Since when do you care so much about being punctual?”
“Since Shoyo-kun wished him good luck at work and told him to keep his job this time.” Osamu explains.
“You’re still not over that crush?” Suna asks, amused. “You do know he’s fucking that Kageyama kid, right?”
Atsumu crosses his arms, huffily. “Ya never know when they’ll be up for a threesome.”
“One day, he’s gonna stop thinkin’ with his dick and my life will be so much easier.” Osamu laments.
“Whatever.” Suna sighs, turning at an intersection, “Just make sure you two actually keep your jobs this time. You know how hard I had to suck up to the boss just to get him to let you two in? I had to assure him you wouldn’t kill anyone on the job.”
“I mean,” Osamu starts to reason, “We’ve never really killed anyone, so that’s an unfair assumption.”
Suna gives them a hard look.
“Last month, you got involved in a street fight over a drug deal gone wrong and sent two guys to the hospital. One of ‘em was in a coma for a week. You know how expensive it was to bail you out of jail?”
The two have the decency to look apologetic.
“Well, no one asked ya. Meian shoulda been the one to do it.” Atsumu says weakly.
“Yeah, Meian would’ve been the one to do it if he wasn’t so sick of your shit. He’s been trying to get rid of you two for years.” Suna says, “Just… try, alright? The money here’s good. If you save up enough, you probably won’t have to do any more MSBY dirty work just to eat some good food and take a bath in clean, running water ever again.”
When they pull up to The Adlers Club, Atsumu groans loudly as he stretches, psyching himself up for yet another tiring day.
“By the way Samu,” He says, hopping out of the car, “Y’know that guy who lives in the building next door? The married one? He asked me to meet him at the usual place after work. So, don’t wait up for me.”
Suna makes a gagging sound as he opens the club’s back door.
“Gross.” Osamu groans, “Do ya really have to keep sleepin’ with him? He’s like, twenty years older than ya. He gives me the heebie fuckin’ jeebies.”
“He helps pay our bills, s’not like ya haven’t done shit like this before. Sugar daddies are useful.” Atsumu defends. “Just be glad we live next to an empty apartment so I don’t hafta do all my sleepin’ around at home.”
“How can he even be counted as a sugar daddy? He’s only like, a step above us in the poverty ranks.”
“I mean… he was able to pay to get our toilet fixed. Got us that new washing machine, too.”
Osamu’s eye twitches.
“You know what? Do whatever the fuck ya want.” He says, tossing Atsumu his apron. “Now, get to work. Maybe if we do good long enough, ya can stop sleepin’ with baldin’ men too.”
Their boss, Takeda, claps his hands loudly.
“Oh, there they are. Look at that, they aren’t late today! Perfect timing. There’s some drunk guy who’s four times my size trying to sell crack to some college kid out by the bar. Whoever is able to peacefully get him outta here gets a raise.”
The three men’s eyes meet at the same time.
Atsumu, Osamu, and Suna, shove at each other as they try to dash out the door.
“ I’ll do it, I’m the strongest one here!” Osamu exclaims.
“Hey, fuck you, I’m the only one here who’s sent someone into a fuckin’ coma with my fists alone!” Atsumu bites back.
Suna shoves them both in the face. “No, shut up, I have a pocket knife in my pants, what do you guys have on you that’ll threaten him?”
“Fuck you. I’ll bet ya he’s just some washed up alcoholic, homophobic boomer. Just start swingin’ yer dick at him ‘n he’ll run.”
They pause.
“Woah. That sounds like a plan.”
“Great.” Takeda says. “Go out there and handle it.”
Then, he lets those words sink in, blinks, and then looks up just as the three start walking out while unzipping their pants.
“Wait. Wait a minute. What?”
When they walk into their apartment past four in the morning, the twins fall face flat onto the ground in unison, groan in unison, and turn onto their backs in unison.
“God, he was huge.” Atsumu says weakly. “He almost chopped my damn cock off.”
“It was like fightin’ Bigfoot.”
Another hard day’s work has earned Osamu a black eye and Atsumu a nasty cut on his cheek, but it has also earned them some spare cash that they plan to use for groceries.
“I want more ice cream, Samu.” Atsumu says tiredly, “Ice cream and beer.”
“What we need is more rice. And fuckin’ vegetables.” Osamu shoots back, “I don’t remember what good home cooked food tastes like. My mouth always tastes like a 7/11.”
Atsumu snorts with his eyes closed.
“Hey,” Osamu says, shoving him, “Are ya still gonna go fuck that old guy? Can’t ya cancel? Yer tired.”
“Shit.” Atsumu says under his breath, as he pushes himself into a sitting position. “Nah, can’t cancel. It’s too late.”
Just as he’s about to stand, Osamu grabs him by the wrist. “Tsumu.”
Atsumu already knows what he’s going to say.
“I’ll be fine, Samu. I’ll be safe. I’ll take care of myself, ya know I will. It’s not like it’s the first time I’ve slept with him.”
Osamu huffs and turns to his side, showing Atsumu his back, physically letting him know that he doesn’t like this at all. Atsumu finds it funny, almost.
He and his brother have been getting into trouble with the law since they were fourteen and here he was, still throwing a hissy fit over Atsumu sleeping with people for money. He doesn’t understand how it’s any different from them selling drugs or thievery or all the other fucked up shit they’ve done in the name of working for Meian Shugo, appointed head of MSBY.
(Against all of their wills, though. Long story.)
“I’ll be back, okay?” Atsumu assures, squeezing Osamu’s shoulder before heading for the window. “As usual.”
“Yer an idiot.”
He pushes their window open, stepping out into the cold night and he wants to say it’s quiet too, but it isn’t, it never is, because they’re in MSBY territory and there’s always someone fighting, yelling, or having unnecessarily loud sex even in the latest hours of the night.
He was probably about to be an offender of the last one, but he hopes everyone takes comfort in knowing that it’ll be a hundred percent fake, as it usually is.
He takes hold of the metal pipes, the way he has a hundred times before, and pushes the broken window of the empty apartment next door open, climbing into it with practiced ease.
Unit 402-A has been left empty probably for as long as Atsumu’s been alive. He and Osamu have been living in this building since before they could even remember, long before Meian, long before Bokuto, long before Kageyama or Hinata, and long before their parents had left them behind.
They’ve lived here longer than most people would be able to bear.
A lot of fucked up things happened on this street, especially in this building, but this room took the cake. The front door is kept locked at all times, but the window leading to the living room has been broken for years.
Unit 402-A.
The empty apartment has been used for many things. Sometimes, he and Osamu would hear punches and yells, sometimes loud, slurred talking and high pitched laughter, sometimes moaning, and once, even a murder.
Atsumu closes the window behind him, assessing the dark and quiet living room, noting that his ‘sugar daddy’ wasn’t here yet. That’s strange. He’s never late.
He shrugs, plopping down onto the dusty couch, deciding to prepare himself in advance, so that they wouldn’t have to take too long for the night.
Atsumu already knows he’s not gonna find any enjoyment or relief with his partner , so he figures it wouldn’t hurt to have some fun with his own fingers before that happens.
He takes out his packet of lube from his pocket, unzips his pants, pulling them down along with his boxers, until they’re bunched up around his ankles. He rips the packet open with his teeth, lathering some lube all over his hand, before turning around, kneeling on the couch, and resting his forehead against the backrest.
Atsumu reaches behind him with lubed up fingers, pressing a single digit into his hole.
“Oh yeah,” He sighs, closing his eyes, “That’s the shit.”
Not that long after, he adds another finger, and moans softly at the feeling. He clutches onto the back of the couch with his free hand as he pumps his fingers in and out of himself with the other.
“Fuck,” He hisses, toes curling once he hits that spot, “Oh shit.”
That old bastard better get here soon ‘cause if he doesn’t, I’m gonna make myself come.
This brings us back to where we left off.
Atsumu’s just about to surrender to the pleasure and wrap his other hand around his cock when suddenly, a door slams open, the lights flicker on, and a black, curly haired man appears pointing a gun to his head.
The last time Atsumu lost a boner that quick, it was when he had a black dildo balls deep in his ass and Osamu walked into the door all bloody, wearing a clown costume.
(Don’t ask. That story will die with them.)
“The fuck?” The man exclaims, eyes widening at the sight before him. And by sight, he means Atsumu’s peach on full display for viewing pleasure.
Atsumu realizes he still has his fingers in his literal asshole. He pulls them out and brings with them a string of lube.
“I… can explain.” Atsumu says, not actually sure if he can explain at all.
“Who the fuck are you?” The man asks in a panic, gun pointed at him.
His face looks intimidating but his hands are shaking, Atsumu notes. Definitely not someone used to handling a gun.
“Okay. I dunno who the hell ya are but...” Atsumu says cautiously, getting up from the couch, slowly raising both hands in the air. “Why don’t we put the gun down so we can talk about this?”
The stranger is also kind of blushing. Cute.
If Atsumu didn’t know any better, he’d think this guy was… checking him out, a little bit. But in a terrified way, if that made sense.
“Who are you and why the fuck were you fingering yourself in the dark, on my couch, in my apartment, at four in the fucking morning?”
“Your apart—” Atsumu gapes, cutting himself off. “Shit. Ya live like this? What the fuck.”
Great. Now, the guy looks like he wants to murder him. Atsumu was not about to be a Unit 402-A cautionary tale.
“Look, I’m sorry. I didn’t know anyone moved in. I’m not some weird exhibitionist… I mean, I’m a little of an exhibitionist but that’s not the point.”
“So you just go around masturbating in empty apartments here as a habit, is that it, you pervert?” He says, incredulously.
“No! I have an explanation, I swear! But can ya put the gun down first? It’s scarin’ me. I can’t focus.”
“No.” He narrows his eyes at him, “I still don’t know who you are.”
“Atsumu! I’m Miya Atsumu! And does it look like I’m a threat? My pants are down and I have lubed up fingers, c’mon man! This isn’t a fair fight!”
He lowers his gun, albeit slowly.
He regards Atsumu with a contemplative look in his eye, before asking, “Why are you acting all weirded out about me moving in?”
“Dude. Yer in MSBY territory right now, ya know that, right?”
The man looks confused. Atsumu is only beginning to notice that said man is actually really fucking sexy.
If I asked him to finish me off right now, would he do it ?
He forcibly pushes that thought out of his head.
“So?” Atsumu continues, finally lowering his hands from their position in the air, “Why’re ya here? Who do you owe? Who’d ya piss off? Who’d ya kill?”
At those questions, the man raises his gun again. Atsumu flinches.
“Hey. Down, boy.” Atsumu placates, “I swear I mean no harm. I live next door to ya, alright? This apartment has been empty for years, people use it all the time when they’re up to no good. I didn’t know ya were here.”
The stranger begins to search Atsumu’s face for signs that he’s telling the truth.
Eventually, he seems to believe him because he sighs, running a hand over his face, saying, “Great. That’s just great. My apartment is something people use as a fucking sex den.”
“Yeah, dude. Ya’d better get that window lock fixed soon, if ya don’t want random junkies to start shootin’ up in yer livin’ room.” Atsumu says, “So, I guess yer our new neighbour. I’m Miya Atsumu.”
The man doesn’t look him in the eye as he says, “Sakusa Kiyoomi.”
“Sakusa Kiyomi, huh…” Atsumu hums, gaze traveling over his whole body, “Yer clothes look expensive. Yer top, I mean. That’s real Gucci, isn’t it? I can tell.”
“What about it?” He glares.
“Nothin’. Jeez. Defensive much.” Atsumu says, “I’m just sayin’ ya don’t look like someone who belongs here. I mean, save for the gun ‘n the fact that yer face is all beat up.”
He squirms a little, staring at the wall.
“Uh. You said something about MSBY…” Sakusa repeats, “What’s that?”
“What?” Atsumu asks, confused. “What the fuck d’ya mean what’s MSBY? Isn’t that why ya have the gun?”
Sakusa just continues to blink at him.
“Damn, dude. Ya really dunno jackshit, huh.” Atsumu whistles, “Ya should get outta this shithole while ya can. Ya won’t last a week at this rate.”
“You just said you live here.” Sakusa retorts, “Why’re you talking like it’s some place I have to escape?”
Sakusa doesn’t understand what exactly the look Atsumu is giving him means, but it sure looks a whole lot like pity.
“Nobody is here because they wanna be, Omi-kun.” He says, “Everyone who’s here is only here because no other place would fuckin’ take ‘em.”
Sakusa pauses. Omi-kun? That’s a new one.
This time, he finally puts his gun back in his pants.
“I’m in the right place, then.” is all he says.
Atsumu takes that as an answer and doesn’t ask.
He doesn’t ask how he ended up here, he doesn’t ask about the gun, he doesn’t ask about the bruises, or about the branded clothes. That was the unsaid rule of MSBY.
Don’t ask anyone any personal questions that you wouldn’t want anyone to ask you.
“Well then,” Atsumu smiles awkwardly, reaching his clean hand out in an attempt of a handshake, “Nice to meet ya, neighbour!”
Sakusa regards him one last time, giving him a look over with an expression that looked half disturbed and half impressed, before decidedly ignoring the handshake, and turning around to shut off the lights.
“Put your fucking pants back on and get the hell out of my apartment before I shoot you.”
“Right.” Atsumu says, bending down to do just that. “And by the way, if some old baldin’ guy climbs into yer window again later, just explain the whole thing to him.”
“What?”
When Atsumu gets back to his own apartment, his brother is in the same position he left him in, asleep on the cold hardwood floor.
When Osamu hears motion, he bolts up into a sitting position in a panic, instantly scanning his surroundings, as if ready to fight.
“Calm down, ya scrub, it’s just me.” Atsumu says. “Why didn’t ya move to yer bed?”
“Oh.” Osamu sags, quickly relaxing, laying back onto the floor, and closing his eyes. “Too tired to get up. Why’re ya back so early?”
“Eh. He never showed.” Atsumu says, laying beside Osamu instead of heading to his bedroom. “Someone moved in next door, by the way. I don’t know why the fuck we didn’t know. Guy named uh… Omi-kun. Hot as hell. He caught me breakin’ in and tried to shoot me in the fuckin’ head.”
“Ah,” Osamu says, half asleep and not the slightest bit fazed. “Friday nights, amirite?”
“Friday nights.” Atsumu repeats.
“Tsumu?”
“Hmm?”
Osamu blindly rolls over, laying his arm on top of Atsumu’s torso. “Carry me to my room, would ya?”
Atsumu’s about to punch him in the face, but he pauses when he notices that his brother looks like he has two black eyes instead of one, because the bags under them were getting that bad. He wonders how heavy they are.
He sighs, getting up from the floor, taking Osamu with him by giving him a piggyback ride.
“C’mere, scrub. Off to bed.”
“Yaaaay.”
__
The frantic knocking on their door comes when the sun is still up.
The sun is still fucking up.
Who the fuck is awake in this building while the sun is still up?
Osamu is fully prepared to tear whoever it is a new one when he swings the door wide open.
He’s met with the view of a curly haired man, face covered in scratches and bruises, wearing clothes that looked like they were branded, but smelled like they hadn’t been washed in days.
He was also bent over, using one hand to support himself against the door frame, the other holding onto his stomach.
He’s kind of hot, Osamu can’t help but notice. But also, the sun is still fucking up.
“What the fuc—”
“Can I use your bathroom?” He asks through gritted teeth, before Osamu can finish swearing at him. “My toilet’s broken and it looks disgusting.”
“What? Wait a minute, who the fuck are—”
“Look, you owe me for not shooting you last night when I caught you trespassing and fingering yourself in my fucking apartment. I could put you in fucking jail for breaking and entering, or… I don’t know, some form of sexual assault or something.” He says.
“Ya caught me doin’ what in yer apartment?” Osamu clarifies.
“Dude, if you don’t want me to take a shit right here, right now, let me in because I will do it and I won’t fucking mean to.” Sakusa says, tapping his foot impatiently.
It’s the first time Osamu’s ever found himself completely speechless. He’s taken the brunt of Atsumu’s embarrassing mistakes many times throughout his life, but this took the cake by far.
Fingering himself in his apartment. Christ’s sake.
“Uh,” He points to a nearby door, “First one on yer left. By the way, the lo—”
Sakusa doesn’t let him finish, pushing past him in a hurry, all but dashing towards the bathroom door, pulling it open, and then closing it with a slam so loud that Osamu winces.
A few seconds later, Atsumu walks out of his bedroom making the angry face he only ever makes when someone wakes him up from a good night’s sleep.
“Who the fuck is makin’ all that goddamn ruckus so early in the mornin’?” He asks viciously, in the very early hour of three in the afternoon.
He heads straight for the bathroom, as he always does first thing when he wakes up. Osamu pointedly does not warn him about the man inside.
Atsumu swings the door open and is met with the view of Sakusa Kiyoomi sitting on the toilet, pants bunched up around his ankles.
Their eyes meet at the exact moment that the man on the toilet accidentally lets out a wet fart, that’s followed by the sound of water splashing below him.
Silence.
Sakusa looks absolutely horrified, hiding his face behind his hands. Atsumu blinks at him, confused and groggy. Osamu bites back a laugh just a little distance away from his twin.
“See, I would’ve told ya that the lock is broken if ya didn’t run away from me so quickly.” Osamu says.
After a few seconds of being frozen in place to process the situation, Atsumu very casually leans against the door frame as if it were just another day in the life.
“Oh, it’s you.” He greets, “G’mornin’, Omi-kun. Isn’t it funny that we keep meetin’ with our asses out? Ya think that God’s tryin’ to tell us somethin’?”
“I’m not even gonna ask why the fuck I’m staring at two of you right now,” Sakusa says, muffled behind his palms. “— but can you please get the fuck out?”
“It’s called havin’ a twin, Omi. We’re twins. I’m Atsumu. He’s Osamu.” Atsumu answers flippantly. “Hurry it up, alright? ‘Cause I need to take a piss.”
With that, he turns around and closes the door behind him.
Osamu raises his eyebrows, arms crossed in front of his chest, waiting for an explanation.
“ Apparently, I owe him for trespassin’ into his apartment last night ‘n bein’ caught fingerin’ myself.” Osamu says.
“Oh.” is all Atsumu has to offer, not looking the slightest bit apologetic or the slightest bit ashamed of himself.
For some reason, he even looks kind of smug about the whole thing.
Instead, he turns towards the bathroom door and yells, “Guess this makes us even, huh?”
The only answer they get is an anguished scream.
Osamu heads for his phone. “I’m callin’ Rin. He needs to be here for this shit.”
Atsumu, Osamu, and Suna watch with rapt attention as Sakusa practically inhales his bowl of expired cereal. (Without any milk. Apparently, dairy doesn’t agree with him.) If anyone could understand that feeling, it was the three of them.
And by that feeling, they mean the feeling of finally having something to chew on, after not having eaten a proper meal in a week. This was exactly that.
“So, uh… Sakusa, right?” Osamu asks, “Do ya live alone?”
“Mmm.” He replies, without looking up from his bowl.
“If he didn’t, last night woulda been even more of a disaster.” Atsumu says, leaning forward and resting his elbows on the table, “Why’d yer apartment look so empty?”
Sakusa makes a face. “What’s it to you? You work in interior design?”
“Fuck you. I’m just sayin’ that I didn’t see any fuckin’ boxes or… shit, anything in there that made it look like anyone moved in.”
Sakusa wriggles uncomfortably in his seat as the other three wait for an explanation.
He goes with the truth. “I wasn’t in a situation where I had time to pack anything when I fucking left.”
Sakusa watches as their curious expressions melt into ones of realization and understanding. They don’t ask anything more.
“Guess that explains why yer wearin’ the same clothes I saw ya in yesterday.” Atsumu notes quietly, eyes resting on Sakusa’s worn out shirt and jeans.
“Expensive, though.” Suna comments, eyebrows raised like he’s almost impressed. “You got money, huh. Gucci? Shit. I’ve never even breathed the air inside a Gucci store.”
Sakusa mechanically shoves another spoonful of cereal in his mouth.
Atsumu knows it tastes like shit. But he eats it like it’s the best meal he’s ever had.
“My parents had money.” He rebutts, “I don’t.”
Damn. Atsumu’s never met anyone in MSBY who had rich folks. But at the mention of the word parents, Suna and the twins know better than to push the topic.
It was another unspoken rule. No one ever really talked about their parents around here. They all preferred it that way.
“The gun.” Atsumu says instead, “The one ya pointed at me last night. Is it yours or did Meian give it to ya?”
“Are you just gonna keep asking me stupid questions or are you gonna let me eat this shitty cereal?”
“Just answer that last one and we’ll shut up.” Atsumu says.
“Meian did.” Sakusa huffs, “He’s the one who brought me here, too. I work for him. Happy now?”
“Alright. That’s all I wanted to know.” Atsumu nods. “Go ahead ‘n eat. I’m gonna go take a shower. I feel gross.”
“Fuck, you guys called me here early.” Suna groans as he gets up from his position too, stretching his arms above his head. “Hey, is your TV working now?”
“Yeah,” Osamu says, heading to the kitchen for a few cans of beer, “Just whack the top a few times ‘n it’ll turn on.”
Sakusa purses his lips. “You guys really aren’t gonna ask about what kind of work I do?”
“You want us to ask?” Atsumu asks, amused.
“No.”
“Then, we won’t.” Atsumu shrugs easily, “And stop it with that tense look on yer face. Do we look like we’re gonna rat you out? Yer not special, alright? No one in MSBY likes to be asked what we do for money.”
Sakusa’s hand tightens around his spoon. “Why not?”
“Because, dearest Omi,” Atsumu sighs, grabbing a towel from the rack, “The big question isn’t what we do for money. It’s what we wouldn’t do for money.”
Sakusa follows him with his eyes, curiously.
But that’s the last thing Atsumu says before winking and then closing the bathroom door behind him. A few seconds later, they hear the water running, followed by disgusted spluttering, and a muffled yell that sounded something like, ‘Blegh! Did someone die in the fuckin’ water tank?! The hell is that taste!’
“Hey.” Sakusa turns to Osamu and Suna. “What’s MSBY?”
The two blink at him incredulously and then slowly turn to look at each other.
“Shit, he’s gonna die out here, Rin.” Osamu whispers, but Sakusa hears him perfectly clear. “What’re we gonna do?”
Sakusa narrows his eyes. “Die? Why the fuck would I die?”
“Shut the fuck up, Samu, you’re scaring him.” Suna scolds, shoving him harshly. “Uh, Omi, right? Or whatever your name is.”
“Sakusa.” He says through a mouthful of cereal.
“Right, Sukuna. Shakira. Whatever.” Suna waves him off, “Finish eating your cereal first. When Atsumu’s done, you’ve got shower rights next, ‘cause you smell like asshole and not in a good way. We can lend you some clothes while we toss the ones you’re wearing in the washing machine. Then tomorrow, let’s drink a ton of beer together and then we’ll show you how things work around here. Sound good?”
Sakusa keeps his eyes locked on them as he eats another spoonful of cereal.
Osamu sets down a can of beer next to his cereal bowl.
“Are you guys all criminals?” Sakusa asks.
For some reason, they both find that funny.
“Dude, ya work for Meian Shugo and yer livin’ with MSBY.” Osamu points out as he punches the top of the TV once, successfully switching it on, “Ya shouldn’t be scared of a couple of felons. Felons are all yer gonna be seein’ around here.”
“ Great. ” Sakusa takes the beer, cracks it open, and downs it in one shot. “Fucking perfect.” He says, as he slams it back onto the table.
“Hey, look at that,” Suna nods in approval, “He already fits right in.”
Twenty minutes later, Atsumu walks out of the bathroom clad in nothing but a towel that only goes up to above his knees.
He’s greeted with the sight of three men sitting on the couch drinking their beers in companionable silence, as if they’ve all been friends for years.
Atsumu approaches them, dripping water all over the floor. “Ooh, what’re ya guys watchin’? Is that the Spanish show from last week where that bitch got pushed down the stairs?”
“Hey, Shakira. Yer turn.” Osamu says, without looking away from the screen. “We don’t have any extra towels, so just use his.”
“It’s Sakusa, you dick . ”
“Wait, what?” Atsumu asks, just as Sakusa stands and without even sparing him a glance, unwraps the towel from his hips.
“Hey! What the fuck, ya bastard, d’ya wanna see my dick that bad—”
“Nothing I haven’t seen before.” Sakusa says breezily as he heads for the bathroom. The door closes without another word.
Atsumu then turns his attention back to his brother and Suna. “What the fuck was that all about?”
“We told him to shower. He stinks.” Suna shrugs, before turning back to the show. “Aw shit, I knew her husband was cheating on her. Leave him, queen! Chop his dick off and mail it to the side bitch’s doorstep!”
“But I used up all the soap.” Atsumu says. “Figured we were goin’ grocery shoppin’ tomorrow, anyway.”
“Well, shit. There’s some dishwashing soap in the kitchen. Go hand him that.” Osamu retorts.
“Eh. Good enough.”
Atsumu doesn’t even think to put any clothes on before grabbing the dishwashing soap and walking back into the bathroom.
“Here’s some soap.” He says, tossing it to the naked man who was just about to step into the shower.
Sakusa catches it, this time not even bothering to comment on either of their naked bodies and making no attempt to cover himself up. He catches onto things fast.
“Get out.”
“Hey, Omi.” Atsumu says, and Sakusa already knows he’s gonna hate whatever is about to come out of his mouth. “It’s been less than twenty-four hours since we met, but we’ve been seein’ a whoooole lotta each other, haven’t we?”
“Get the fuck out, Miya.” Sakusa repeats, turning the shower on. “And take my clothes. Suna told me they need to be washed.”
“Alright.” Atsumu says, grabbing his soiled clothes piled on the floor. “Oh. Ya have a nice ass, by the way.”
That earns him an empty shampoo bottle to the head just as he tries to make his way out which, okay , he’ll admit he kind of deserved that.
But Sakusa’s gaze lingering a little too long on his ass and his cock doesn’t get lost on him. He takes that as a victory on his part.
After he puts Sakusa’s clothes in the wash and grabs his own clothes to wear, Atsumu drapes himself on top of Osamu and Suna on the couch, much to both of their annoyance.
“So?” Atsumu asks, “What d’ya think of him?”
Osamu recognizes that tone and that look.
“I think that ya don’t even know whether he’s gay or not, so don’t be such a fuckin’ manwhore. We’re showin’ him the ropes tomorrow. Be decent.”
“Ugh. Ya just never support my sexual escapades,” Atsumu sighs dramatically as Suna hands him an opened beer can, “Screw you, Samu. Get fucked.”
“Sorry, but I’m mostly in charge of doin’ all the fuckin’.” He replies.
“And thank God for that. Cheers.” Suna raises his beer can in the air.
“I hate this fuckin’ family.”
__
For the second day in a row, Atsumu is rudely awoken while the sun is still up.
He repeats. The sun is still fucking up.
He doesn’t like how waking up before sundown is starting to become a norm in this household.
“Samu, if no one is dead or dyin’, someone will be in a minute.” He growls, squinting at his brother.
“Sunarin and I are gonna be out. Barnes asked us to do somethin’.” Osamu explains. “Yer in charge of showin’ Sadako around.”
“Who the fuck is Sadako? Isn’t she that ghost from The Ring?” Atsumu asks, eyebrows furrowed.
“Our new neighbour, ya dimwit.”
“Ah. Omi-Omi.” Atsumu rubs his eyes, “Right. Wait, weren’t we supposed to do that together?”
“I told ya, Barnes gave us somethin’ to do. It’s good money.” Osamu repeats, squeezing Atsumu’s shoulder. “Yer in charge of the newbie, alright? Just… be nice, don’t be yerself, and don’t scare him off.”
“I’ll have ya know that I’m the epitome of hospitality.” Atsumu argues as he tiredly kicks his blanket off, “Fine. Go to work. Be safe, alright?”
“Always am.” Osamu says, patting his twin’s head before heading out of his room. “Lemme know how it goes with him, gay man.”
Atsumu flips him off.
Now, Atsumu’s fully aware of the fact that Unit 402-A is finally occupied and he can knock on the door and enter through the door like a normal person.
He doesn’t.
He’s not sure what it is. Maybe, it’s just a reflex at this point. Or maybe going through the front door just feels wrong now, for a reason he’s not even gonna try to understand. But he climbs out of his window, hangs onto the water pipes, and goes in through Sakusa’s window, the way he always has before it was Sakusa’s window.
Thankfully, this time he isn’t met with a gun pointed to his head and is instead greeted with a, “Can’t you just knock on my front door like a regular human being?”
Atsumu eyes Sakusa’s bare torso appreciatively. “How ‘bout, can’t we just meet while fully clothed for once, like regular human beings?”
Sakusa cocks an eyebrow. “Does my body bother you, Miya?”
“Nope. Not in the way ya think, at least.” Atsumu says, under his breath, “Ready for an MSBY tour?” He asks, this time louder.
Atsumu thinks he hears Sakusa say ‘I think I know exactly’ but before he can clarify, Sakusa puts on a hoodie (Atsumu’s hoodie that he’d stolen from the day before), and says, “Let’s just go. And for fuck’s sake. Tell me what the fuck MSBY is.”
They swing the front door open and are led to the familiar hallway filled with familiar sounds that Atsumu has learned to associate with comfort.
Junkies laughing, alcoholics partying, married couples yelling, children screaming, guns being shot from a distance.
Home sweet home.
Sakusa doesn’t seem to share the sentiment though, unconsciously shrinking more and more at every loud noise.
“This, Omi, is MSBY, where mornings are nights and nights are mornings. Almost everyone livin’ in this shithole is a part of it. And if ya do dirty work for Meian and his guys, yer a part of it too.” Atsumu says proudly, opening his arms as they start walking down the hall. “What does MSBY stand for, ya ask? I have no fuckin’ idea. Absolutely no clue. It’s what Meian has always called us, so we just roll with it.”
Sakusa blinks at him, vacantly. “All that build up just for that?”
“First!” Atsumu exclaims, stopping in front of a chipped door and knocking on it thrice, “I need ya to meet these two guys. Don’t let ‘em scare ya. Especially Bokkun. He looks kinda crazy, but he’s harmless… for the most part. Just don’t ever piss him off. Ever. ”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
The door opens before he can get an answer, and they’re greeted with a wide-eyed man with spiked black and grey hair, wearing nothing but boxers.
Sakusa is only a little bit terrified and also finds himself wondering if nakedness is a big part of the culture around here.
He can’t say he minds that part though, if they all look like what he’s seen so far.
“Tsum-Tsum!” Bokuto greets happily, before looking over to Sakusa, “And… attractive stranger I dunno! Hey!”
“Hey, Bokkun. Is Akaashi here?” Atsumu asks, leaning against the door frame. “Wanted to introduce ya both to our new member.”
“New member?!” Bokuto repeats loudly, making Sakusa jump slightly. “Keiji! C’mere! We have a new guy and he looks like a supermodel!”
A moment later, Akaashi pops out from behind Bokuto, hair disheveled.
They just had sex, Atsumu chuckles to himself.
Oh, they’re gay, Sakusa notes.
“This is Bokuto Koutarou and Akaashi Keiji.” Atsumu says, “Bokkun, Akaashi, this is, uh… Omi-Omi.”
“Sakusa Kiyoomi.” He interjects, reaching out to shake both their hands. “Nice to meet you.”
“Sakusa Kiyoomi.” Atsumu repeats to himself, quietly. “Not Sadako. Right.”
Not Sadako?
“Nice to meet you.” Akaashi smiles gently, “Sorry about how we look. We weren’t expecting anyone.”
“Tsumu’s being nice and showing you around, I’m guessing? Did Meian ask you to?” Bokuto asks, turning to Atsumu.
“Nah, we uh… we met by chance and now I’ve taken it upon myself to take him under my wing.” He explains, “Anyway, he’ll be around now so I wanted ya to get a good look at his face.”
“It’s a really good face.” Bokuto says, nodding in appreciation. “Is he gonna be working at The Adlers too?”
He asks the question like there’s an implication.
“The Adlers…?”
Atsumu turns to Sakusa, shaking his head as if to say he’ll explain later.
“Well. Actually, we’re boutta go head to Shoyo’s apartment now. We’ll see ya around, Bokkun! Tell yer dad I said hi!”
“Will do!” Bokuto waves, waiting for them to walk off before closing his door.
“The Adlers?” Sakusa repeats.
“It’s the club where I work with Samu ‘n Rin. Bokkun works there, too.” Atsumu explains, albeit looking slightly uncomfortable for some reason. “We’re headin’ to Shoyo and Tobio’s place now. They work there part time.”
“Alright. What kind of club is it?” Sakusa asks.
Atsumu seems to weigh over the options in his head first, but then eventually settles with telling the truth. “It’s a gay club.”
“Oh.” Sakusa replies, trying to sound like he didn’t just choke on his spit. “Oh. Nice.”
He coughs awkwardly. “So, you’re all…?”
Atsumu hums. “Bokkun and Akaashi are together. Samu and Rin are. The guys we’re goin’ to right now, Shoyo and Tobio are too. I’m single but also really fuckin’ gay.”
“Wow.” is all Sakusa says in response, “Alright. Good to know, I guess.”
“What? I thought catchin’ me with my fingers up my ass was a pretty obvious sign.”
“Hey, just ‘cause you like it up the ass doesn’t automatically make you gay.” Sakusa argues. “I had a straight friend who liked getting pegged. And I’m gay, but I’ve never taken it up the ass.”
Atsumu has to hold back a smile. Fuck yes.
“Ya don’t want to or never had the chance to?” He clarifies, just for future reference.
“I don’t fucking know. Why does it matter?”
“Fair enough.” Atsumu shrugs. “Anyway. Samu, Rin and I just make drinks ‘n serve. Bokkun’s a dancer. Really good at it, too. He’s been livin’ here since we were in high school. Akaashi… doesn’t really live here but he’s over so much that he might as well just move in. Same as Rin.”
Sakusa nods, humming quietly. “How about Bokuto-san’s dad? I heard you mention him.”
“Oh yeah,” Atsumu remembers, “Bokkun’s old man is the only dad we like around here. He doesn’t come over a lot, but it’s fun when he does. He’s cool. He has a bit of a drinkin’ problem but who doesn’t in a place like this, y’know? He’s an alright guy, all in all. At least he’s around.”
At least he’s around, Sakusa repeats in his head.
“So, what does his dad do?”
“He steals shit, beats people up, sells drugs. You know. Lots of things.”
“Of course he does.” Sakusa sighs, not sure what else he expected. “So, who’s Shoyo and Tobio?”
“First floor. Calmest floor in this damn mess of a building, actually.” Atsumu says, pointing to the winding staircase. “Elevator still isn’t workin’, so it’s time for today’s workout. Have ya met Big C yet?”
“What the hell is a Big C?” Sakusa makes a face, “It sounds like some stupid rapper name.”
“Hey, don’t fuckin’ talk shit about Big C.” Atsumu scolds, “He’s the MSBY pet.”
“You guys have a pet?”
“Yer one of us now, so we have a pet.” Atsumu corrects, “And by pet, I mean he’s a stray dog who shows up a lot ‘cause we feed him our leftovers and keep him warm during the winter. You’ll see.”
They don’t even have to knock this time. Once they get there, Kageyama and Hinata are already crouched outside, playing with a scruffy human-sized labrador.
“Does he bite?” Sakusa finds himself asking as they approach.
“What? Nah, don’t worry.” Atsumu says, casually. “Shoyo’s a pretty chill guy. He won’t bite if ya don’t ask him to.”
Sakusa smacks the back of his head. “I meant the dog, you fucking freak.”
“Ow! Uh. Well. Define bite.”
“Atsumu-san! Sakusa-san!” Hinata waves, giving them a big, bright smile.
“You know him?” Atsumu asks at the same time that Sakusa asks, “He knows me?”
“I heard about you from Meian-san and knew it was you the second I saw you!” Hinata replies, “I’m Hinata Shoyo! And this big, frowny guy is Kageyama Tobio! And this guy over here, this is is Big C.”
“Nice to meet you, Sakusa-san.” Kageyama bows slightly, which Sakusa returns.
“Nice to meet the three of you.” Sakusa smiles, before bending down to hesitantly pet the dog.
Once he’s sure that he’s not about to get his hand ripped off, he gently places his hand on top of the dog’s head, and is met with a head bump and soft whine.
“Oh, he likes you!” Hinata beams, stepping back to give Sakusa room to meet Big C. “That’s rare. He usually doesn’t like new people. A few guys have had to get stitches ‘cause he sometimes likes to try and rip people’s limbs off. It’s adorable.”
“I’m good with animals.” Sakusa says softly, sitting down on the ground to properly cuddle with him.
“Hi, Big C. Hello. You’re a good boy, aren’t you?” He coos.
Atsumu feels his heart clench.
Fuck. Oh no. He’s cute. This is not good.
Hinata makes his way to Atsumu’s side and leans towards him, whispering, “Sakusa Kiyoomi, right? Meian told me all about him.”
“Yeah?” Atsumu says, eyes still trained on Sakusa.
He’s smiling . It’s a small one, a gentle one, but it’s bright. Atsumu can tell that it’s rare.
“What’d Meian say?”
“Wow, you smell.” Sakusa laughs, scratching the sides of Big C’s ears. “You’re even worse than I was yesterday, you know.”
“Apparently, he’d been living on the streets for a few weeks when he found him.” Hinata says, “Meian made him do a job on the very first day to test him. Apparently, he was able to do it without pissing himself. ”
Fuck, that’s hot.
“Did he say why he was on the streets?” Atsumu asks.
Hinata shakes his head at Atsumu’s question.
“He didn’t say. But Meian said he seemed… angry, that day. In his words, it felt like Sakusa-san wasn’t running away ‘cause he was scared he’d be killed, he was running away ‘cause he knew he probably would’ve killed someone if he didn’t.”
“How long has he been coming around here?” Sakusa asks, looking up at Kageyama.
“It’s been a few years now.” Kageyama says, running his hands through Big C’s fur. “We’re just glad nothing bad has happened to him so far, considering where we live.”
“Wonder what his baggage is.” Atsumu leans against the wall. “Shitty family, ya think?”
Hinata looks at him like he’s stupid. “Who lives here and doesn’t have a shitty family?”
“Right.” Atsumu snorts, saving the questions in his head for a later time.
“You’re a handsome one, you.” Sakusa says, now rubbing Big C’s belly.
Atsumu takes a deep breath and tries to control the growing smile on his face. “Hey, Omi! Wanna grab a beer with me before we head off to work?”
Sakusa doesn’t even look away from the dog when he replies with, “If you bring the beers here, I will.”
Kageyama looks up at them. “I think Big C has a new favorite.”
Big C chooses that particular moment to lick Sakusa’s face, resulting in the man scrunching up his nose and giggling.
Fucking… giggling.
“Looks like Omi-kun has a new favorite too.” Atsumu points out.
Hinata looks up at Atsumu’s pinched, tortured expression and instantly knows.
“Wow. That’s a look. You have a little of a crush on him, don’t you?”
“Don’t ya ever fuckin’ say that out loud ever again.” Atsumu says, pained. “That’s so embarrassing.”
__
Osamu gets back an hour before their shift at The Adlers. The first thing Atsumu does is the first thing he always does when they see each other again anytime he and his brother go anywhere separately.
Check for any visible damage.
He’s relieved to see that there isn’t any.
“Barnes didn’t have ya doin’ anythin’ too dangerous, I’m guessin’?” He comments as Osamu closes the front door behind him.
“Nope.” He replies, shrugging his jacket off. “He just had us rough some kids up into payin’ their dues. Ya know they don’t make us do anythin’ too bad anymore. Have somethin’ else to tell ya, though.”
“Hmm?”
Osamu sinks into the couch next to Atsumu. “Yer sugar daddy who didn’t show up two days ago. I found out why.”
“Crap.” Atsumu says, dreading what he’s about to hear already. “This isn’t some fucked up shit, is it?”
“He’s dead, Tsumu. His wife found out he was fuckin’ dudes. They got into a fight and she ended up killin’ him. She’s sittin’ in a jail cell as we speak.”
“Jesus Christ.” Atsumu whispers, closing his eyes. “That is messed up.”
Osamu gives his brother a moment to process the new information. “You okay?”
“Yeah, ‘course I’m alright. It’s not like I gave a shit about him. He was a fuckin’ piece of shit.” Atsumu sighs, resting his head against the back of the couch, staring at the ceiling vacantly. “It’s just weird, y’know? Someone who’s been inside me just got murdered. Did they say how?”
“A gun. Police were wonderin’ why no one reported hearin’ any screamin’ and guns bein’ fired.” Osamu snorts.
Atsumu huffs out a laugh. “Do they even know where we are? When are we not hearin’ people screamin’ and guns bein’ fired?”
“Well, that’s that.” Osamu shrugs, turning to look at Atsumu. “How was the day with the hot new neighbour?”
“The bastard fit right in.” Atsumu admits, “Bokkun seemed to think he’d make a good dancer at The Adlers. Akaashi was polite as ever. Shoyo and Tobio like him. Big C pretty much claimed him as his new favorite owner.”
“None of ‘em scared him off?”
“I think they all scared him a little bit, but he’ll live.” Atsumu retorts. He shoves Osamu’s arm lightly. “He’s gay, y’know.”
Osamu raises his eyebrows. “Oh, really? Are ya just manifesting again or did he actually say that?”
Atsumu shoves him again, this time harder. “Fuck you. He actually told me. Even said that he’s never taken it up the ass ‘n everythin’.”
“Good to know that piece of information that’ll never come in handy for me, ever.” Osamu says, “Did ya learn anythin’ else about him?”
“Like what?”
“I dunno, yer the one who spent a whole fuckin’ afternoon with him.” Osamu presses, “Don’t ya have this thing where ya like to stick yer nose into other people’s business and try to read every new person that comes in like some scammy fortune teller?”
“Hey, I’ll have ya know my readings of people are right 80% of the time.” Atsumu argues.
“So? What’d ya get from him?”
Atsumu actually thinks about it, retracing his steps and recalling every interaction, every little expression, every stutter and twitch, every tired glare and smile that they were able to fit into an afternoon. When it comes down to it, he didn’t get much at all.
So far, all he knows is this.
Sakusa Kiyoomi looks damn good wearing his hoodie. He wakes up earlier than everyone else. He has thighs for days. He’s gay and has never bottomed. He has two moles above his eyebrow and it’s ridiculously pretty for no reason. He’s intimidating but easy to talk to once you get past that. He likes dogs. He has a pretty smile. Too much dairy upsets his stomach. (Atsumu would know, he witnessed it.) His body is sculpted like it’s photoshopped. (Atsumu would know, he’s seen it twice.) His giggle is capable of ending wars and ruining lives. (Atsumu would know, he nearly died after hearing it.)
He’s tough and he adjusts well. He’s rough but in a way that makes it obvious that he’s only doing it to protect himself. He flinches at loud noises. He always examines his surroundings like he’s not sure where he is or why he’s there. He doesn’t like personal questions. He carries his gun everywhere, like it’s the only thing that makes him feel safe. He barely has anything on him, but the things that he does have look expensive.
My parents have money but I don’t, Atsumu repeats in his head.
It’s not that Atsumu’s good at reading people. It’s just that he’s been here long enough to recognize one of his own.
“I could barely get anythin’ from him, that’s the thing.” Atsumu finally says, “He seems like he’s one of those tough guys who only lets their guard down when they’re drunk, sick or asleep, know what I mean? Kinda like you.”
“Hey.”
“But…” Atsumu continues, “We already knew this, but I think maybe his parents were loaded. And they were shitty to him. Then again, for some reason rich families are usually shitty.”
“I don’t think bein’ rich has anything to do with it.” Osamu says, “We know from experience that poor families are usually shitty, too.”
“Yeah, but don’t ya think it’s worse when they’re rich?”
“Why?”
“I don’t know. I mean, not to rationalize any of the shit our sorry excuse for parents put us through, ‘cause they’re sacks of shit who can go to hell for all I care, but if I was an addict with no money, who had to feed two screamin’ children I created, with someone I didn’t even like on top of that, I’d probably turn a little fuckin’ crazy, too.” Atsumu explains.
“But when yer rich, I just don’t fuckin’ get it.” He continues, “Ya have it all. What excuse do ya have to be a shitty parent?”
Osamu doesn’t have an answer to that. He doesn’t think Atsumu’s expecting him to have an answer to it, either. There were a lot of fucked up things about their lives that they couldn’t find any answers to no matter how hard they tried.
They’ve learned the hard way that it’s best to just stop asking questions altogether.
“Maybe we can let him in on our MSBY Gay Unit parties. Ya like him enough?” Osamu asks.
Atsumu shrugs. “I like his smile.”
“His smile?” Osamu repeats, incredulously. “If ya said his dick, I would’ve seen that comin’ from a mile away. But his smile? That’s fuckin’ gay, Tsumu.”
“Hey, I like his dick too!”
“And ya think that helps yer case how?”
“Shut the fuck up, Samu.” Atsumu grumbles, pushing himself off the couch and then kicking his twin’s leg. “Let’s get ready for work. Bokkun told me he’s dancin’ to WAP tonight and I’m not about to miss that.”
“Cardi B and Bokuto Koutarou in a glittery thong? Count me in.”
__
The MSBY Gay Unit was officially formed when Kageyama and Hinata moved in a couple years back. It started the way you’d imagine anything like it to start. Atsumu doesn’t really remember much about life before the Gay Unit, but he does remember that it was shit. The whole reason he and Osamu beefed up and got stronger was to avoid being seen as an easy target.
Scrawny, young, and gay? It’s a recipe for disaster around here.
The only reason they were still alive now was probably because they grew to be six feet tall by the time they were sixteen, and because Meian threatened anyone who fucked with them with the promise of a long, torturous death.
When Bokuto Koutarou came around, he was already tall and beefy. It didn’t really matter that he was gay. One look at him, everyone knew he wasn’t someone to be fucked with.
(Atsumu doesn’t blame them. None of those fuckers know that he’s actually just a gentle giant who’s scared of butterflies and who cried like a baby watching Demon Slayer Episode 19. Well. But then again, who didn’t cry watching that?)
Then, Bokuto and Osamu met Akaashi and Suna, so that helped too. It started feeling a lot like they’d formed the gay little family they never knew they needed. So when they found out Meian was bringing in fresh meat and that they were not only gay but a couple, the decision was instant and simultaneous.
We’re taking them in and we’re all going to be friends forever.
(Kageyama being the best shot they’ve ever met and Hinata being the tiniest most terrifying person to ever exist was just a bonus.)
Hence, the MSBY Gay Unit was formed.
There aren't a lot of good things about MSBY, but you just might get lucky when it comes to the people you meet. After all, the only reason any of them are here is because they had nowhere else to go. And the only reason they found each other is because they had no one else to rely on. In that sense, no matter how different they are, they’re one and the same.
When you grow up with nothing, the little you do have becomes everything.
Whether it’s the shitty, broken down apartment with no heating, the below minimum wage jobs that manage to keep them alive and not much else, and the family that’s dysfunctional but beloved because at least this time, they got to choose it for themselves.
Atsumu loved them deeply. But also…
“My theory is that he’s a super secret trained assassin.” Hinata says, sounding so sure of himself that Atsumu is almost convinced. “You guys heard the story, right? Meian picked him up off the street and made him do a job on the spot and he nailed it! He’s gotta be trained!”
“Or maybe he’s just been doing illegal work for awhile now.” Kageyama adds, “He could’ve been lying about how long he’s been on the streets for.”
They’re fucking idiots, sometimes.
“Why would he lie about that?” Suna asks, genuinely confused.
“No fuckin’ way he’s a trained assassin.” Atsumu interjects, “He’s tried to use his gun on me ‘n his hands were all shaky the whole time.”
“You’ve been handlin’ guns for years now ‘n yer hands still shake when ya hafta do it, so what’re ya goin’ on about?” Osamu points out.
“Fuck you.”
“Pampered son of a mafia boss?” Bokuto offers, taking a hit from the joint they’re passing around. “Shit, that would be so cool! What if we’re making friends with the heir to a mob empire right now!”
Akaashi snickers, shaking his head as he takes a hit too. “This is ridiculous. Why didn’t you guys just invite him if you’re all so curious?”
“I did.” Atsumu says, taking the joint that Akaashi hands him, only to pass it to his brother. “He said he has to work tonight or somethin’ like that.”
“Wait. Does he have an actual job or is he just living off the cash he gets from breaking the law?” Suna asks.
Good question, Atsumu thinks. ‘Cause he doesn’t know either.
“Oh my god.” Hinata suddenly exclaims, eyes going wide. He sets his beer bottle down. “What if… what if.”
“What if what?”
“What if Sakusa-san’s an undercover cop?” He suggests theatrically, “And he’s come to live here because he’s heard of all the crime in this area and he’s actually out to get us and put us in jail.”
“Nah,” Atsumu objects, “I’ve seen waaay too much of him for it to be an act. I don’t think undercover cops resort to nudity. Do they?”
Just as he asks that question, they hear the window behind them being pushed open loudly, revealing a sweaty Sakusa Kiyoomi, sporting a bruise on his cheek and a fresh cut on his lip.
“What the fuck.” Atsumu breathes out as Sakusa hops into the living room casually, closing the window behind him, and then wiping the sweat off his forehead, erotically almost.
There’s an audible synchronized gasp that echoes throughout the room.
“Not gonna lie, there was something inherently sexy about that.” Suna whispers.
Everyone else nods in agreement.
“If you’re not gonna use my front door, I won’t use yours either.” Sakusa announces, before turning his gaze to the rest of the people in the room. “Did you guys save some beer for me?”
He walks over to them with the calm swagger of a man who has known them for years. (He hasn’t. He literally met them two days ago.) And then, he takes his place next to Atsumu on the couch, causing their thighs and arms to press together, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. (It isn’t natural. Atsumu’s dying.)
“We’ve got beer and weed.” Suna says, offering him the joint the same time that Osamu cracks open a beer can for him. Hinata walks off to restock.
“Take your pick.”
“I’ll take both.” Sakusa answers, taking both the beer and the joint. He takes a swig and then a hit.
And then he starts choking.
Atsumu keeps his eyes trained on him. “Wow. That’s just pathetic. Ya don’t smoke, do ya?”
“Sure, I do.” Sakusa insists with tears in his eyes. He hands Atsumu the joint, which he only sets down on the ashtray. Sakusa takes notice of that. “Seems like yer the one who doesn’t.”
“Yeah, I don’t.” Atsumu says easily, “At least I ain’t a grown ass man lyin’ about it just to look cool.”
“You have a death wish?”
“Hey, come on, Tsum-Tsum! Get off his ass! Let him have some fun!” Bokuto exclaims, “Here, Omi-kun, I’ll show you how to do it without choking!”
“Oh, I can teach him that!” Hinata yells, back from the kitchen bringing another two beers. “First, you train your gag reflex. When you brush your teeth, stick the toothbrush really far in and—”
“Not choking on that, you dumbass!” Kageyama exclaims, turning red.
Atsumu tunes everyone out after that. All he can focus on in his tipsy haze is the warm body pressed against his side, trying to smoke a joint without looking like an amateur.
“Thought ya couldn’t come.” Atsumu says, quiet enough so that only Sakusa can hear.
“Finished up early.” Sakusa says, trying to act nonchalant and failing. “Just thought maybe I’d stop by.”
Atsumu bites back a smug smile and also fails. “So, ya like my company after all.”
“I like that you have food and beer.” He retorts without looking at him. Atsumu smiles harder.
“Why’re ya sittin’ so close to me then?” He teases.
“Got a problem, Miya?” Sakusa shoots back, finally turning to meet his gaze. “‘Cause it seems to me, you’re liking it more than you should.”
“Maybe.” Atsumu says, staring at Sakusa’s lips. “But so are you.”
“How would you know that?”
“Because yer hand is on my thigh, Omi-kun.” Atsumu whispers teasingly, “Ya know that?”
“Is it?” Sakusa asks in a tone that tells Atsumu that he did not, in fact, know what he was doing, and is now acting like he did, “Does it bother you?”
The breath that Atsumu lets out is fragile. He didn’t know it was possible to be both amused and turned on.
“Ya sure ya wanna be doin’ this when there are six other people in the room?”
Sakusa answers that with a squeeze. “Thought you were an exhibitionist.”
“I am. Preferably, in places that don’t include my twin brother.” Atsumu says, reaching down to squeeze Sakusa’s thigh anyway. “I knew ya liked me.”
“I like how you look when you’re naked. There’s a difference.”
At the moment, Atsumu doesn’t give a shit about that difference. All he knows and all that matters is that Sakusa Kiyoomi wants to fuck him: confirmed.
Halle-fucking-lujah.
“Hinata,” Kageyama scolds, taking the beer can from said boy’s hand. “Stop it. You’re reaching your limit.”
“No, we have to get even drunker so that we don’t notice when Atsumu-san and Sakusa-san start making out in front of us!” He cries, eyes only half open.
“Oh, please,” Osamu scoffs, “Who hasn’t noticed? Every time they look at each other, they’re eye-fuckin’.”
Atsumu and Sakusa take their hands off each other at the same time, resorting to crossing their arms because it’s probably the only way to keep from touching each other.
“Eat shit, Samu.” Atsumu spits out, taking a swig of his beer.
The night devolves into madness from there, as it usually does when everyone in the MSBY Gay Unit comes together in one room. It’s only by 6AM that people start leaving and not exactly by choice.
Akaashi is bodily dragging Bokuto out of the front door, Kageyama has Hinata in a fireman's carry, and Osamu’s decided to abandon him, his own flesh and blood, to stay over at his boyfriend’s place. Without him. Just so they can have loud, kinky sex.
But Atsumu figures that’s fine, because that leaves him alone with Sakusa and by the way things were going—
“Alright. Guess I’ll head out, too.” Sakusa announces.
“What?” Atsumu sputters.
Osamu holds back a bout of laughter as he walks out the door with a final, “Have fun with yer right hand tonight, Tsumu! Love ya, see ya tomorrow!”
Atsumu flips him off. “Right hand, my ass. I’m ambidextrous, motherfucker.”
The door slams shut and he turns his attention back to Sakusa, who is seemingly in the middle of taking his pick of another one of Atsumu’s hoodies.
“What do ya mean yer headin’ out too?”
Sakusa raises his eyebrows, amused. “What’s wrong, Miya? Were you expecting something?”
“Okay, first of all, I don’t appreciate that ya call Samu by his first name and yer still callin’ me Miya. I call favoritism.” He pouts, “And second of all, ya know damn well what I was expectin’.”
Sakusa takes a liking to a black and yellow hoodie, one of Atsumu’s personal favorites. He proceeds to shimmy out of the one he’s currently wearing. And he flexes. Right in front of his salad.
The ‘fuck’ that Atsumu lets out is guttural. He’s so gorgeous that he has to look away.
Atsumu can tell that Sakusa can tell how affected he is. And he enjoys it like the sadist he is.
“Are ya really gonna do this to me right now? Really?” Atsumu damn near begs.
“Yeah. You smell like sewage water.” Sakusa says, “Take a shower and maybe I’ll change my mind.”
Atsumu sees the light, suddenly.
“Our shower water isn’t any different from sewage water but I’ll take it. Stay right there.”
“Don’t fucking tell me what to do.” Sakusa says, but his tone tells him he doesn’t mean it.
It’s only when Atsumu’s standing under the running water with three fingers up his ass that he allows himself to think about what they’re about to do and the things that led them to this point. There wasn’t much to go on. Honestly, if they hadn’t met the way they did, they probably wouldn’t be doing this at all. I mean, two hot guys see each other with no clothes on or no pants on as much as they have in the past three days, you might as well just say fuck it and have sex.
It shouldn’t feel weird to sleep with him. Atsumu has had sex with a bunch of strangers. Hell, now that he thinks about it, he’s pretty much had sex exclusively with strangers. Sakusa Kiyoomi didn’t even count as a stranger anymore. He knows more about him than he knew about all the other people he’s slept with before.
Does it feel weird because he wants to know more?
There was something that felt off about him. He brings his gun everywhere like he’s had it his whole life, but shakes when he holds it. He walks around like he owns the place, but he visibly flinches at loud noises. He eats their garbage food, but gets tummy aches when he does. He pretends to be used to it all the way the rest of them are, but they can tell that he isn’t. He acts like he’s comfortable around them, and he’s proven tonight that he’s willing to voluntarily spend time with them, but Atsumu can’t tell if he actually likes them or if he’s just doing it to keep himself safe. Make friends with the enemy and all that. But then again, Atsumu can tell pretty easily that Sakusa genuinely enjoys talking to them.
It’s like the people are familiar to him, but the place and the circumstances aren’t. A lot of the people who ended up in MSBY were like that, too.
It was almost as if they’d finally found their people, it’s just that they had to hit rock bottom to do it.
As he dries himself off with his towel, he wonders if he’d be doing the right thing by sleeping with him. Maybe he shouldn’t. Hell, what if Sakusa was only doing this because it was his first time smoking weed?
Plus, at this point of his life, Sakusa probably needs a good friend way more than he needs a fuck buddy.
With a renewed mind, Atsumu pushes the door open and his gaze instantly lands on Sakusa Kiyoomi sitting on his couch, stroking his dick that’s already protected with a rubber, wearing nothing but his hoodie. He’s looking at him with hazy eyes.
Holy fuck.
“Are you just gonna stand there, Miya?” He taunts, a little breathlessly, “Or are you gonna come here and sit on my cock?”
Oh, well. It’s not like I’m gonna get paid for being a good person, Atsumu thinks to himself, maybe Samu can be his good friend.
Atsumu practically jumps on him, caging Sakusa between his thighs as his lips latch onto his, pulling him in for a bruising kiss. One of Sakusa’s hands flies to his hair, pulling hard, the other squeezing one of his buttcheeks so hard that Atsumu knows it’ll leave marks.
“You better have prepped yourself in there.” Sakusa growls.
“What, think I’m some kind of amateur?” Atsumu retorts, spreading his legs further apart. “Hold me open, Omi.”
Sakusa obliges, reaching down to spread his cheeks apart as Atsumu slowly sinks down onto his length.
“Fuck,” Atsumu groans, throwing his head back, “Yer cock feels like a fuckin’ dream.”
“You say that to everyone?” Sakusa asks, voice and face pinched in pleasure.
“Hell no,” Atsumu says, hands clenched around Sakusa’s shoulders, “And believe me when I say that.”
When he bottoms out, they both let out resounding moans.
“Christ, Omi,” Atsumu hisses, starting to move lightly as Sakusa presses kisses onto his chest, “I prefer toppin’, but if ya feel like this inside me, I don’t think I mind gettin’ fucked for the rest of my life.”
Sakusa bites Atsumu’s neck leaving marks purposefully, fingers sinking deep into Atsumu’s flesh as he starts to fuck himself onto the man’s cock.
“C’mon, Miya.” Sakusa pants, “Ride me like you mean it.”
“Ya don’t gotta tell me twice.” Atsumu says, raising himself slightly and then sinking down hard, repeating the action until he’s bouncing on top of him. “ God, yeah.”
“You like having your nipples played with?” Sakusa asks, speech slightly slurred both from being sex drunk and being drunk drunk.
He groans loudly in response.
“I want ‘em in yer mouth.” Atsumu says breathlessly, yanking Sakusa forward until his face is pressed firm against his chest.
The man doesn’t waste any time. He runs his hands up and down Atsumu’s back, taking a perky nipple in his mouth, swirling his tongue, and biting down.
“Shit. That’s it,” Atsumu sighs shakily, bouncing harder and faster, “Yeah, Omi, s’good.”
“You always this talkative?” Sakusa asks.
“Force of habit, maybe.” Atsumu answers, “I can shut up.”
“Don’t.” He says quickly, grabbing onto the man’s hips as he starts thrusting upwards to meet Atsumu in the middle. “I wanna hear you scream.”
Atsumu stops moving altogether, keeping his legs open as they tremble, eyes rolling into the back of his head, as he lets Sakusa take charge.
Sakusa finds that blessed angle almost instantly. Atsumu all but chokes, falling forward, burying his face in the man’s shoulder.
“Fuck, Omi, don’t stop.”
Atsumu doesn’t remember the last time anyone had ever fucked him this good. He doesn’t think anyone ever has.
“Holy shit.” Sakusa lets out without meaning to, “You’re shaking. You good?”
“Never been better.” He manages to let out, “Just don’t stop doin’ whatever the fuck yer doin’.”
Most of the people Atsumu’s slept with enjoyed taking their time with him. Most of them were paying though, and were only fucking him because they couldn’t let anyone else know they fucked men at all, so taking their sweet time made sense.
Sakusa fucks him as if they’re being timed. Like they’re in the middle of running away from something. He fucks him like he can’t afford to take too long, like they’re about to get caught, and he can’t have that.
He’s straight to the point, he’s fast, he’s rough, and Atsumu almost wants to tell him to slow down but despite that, he’s good. Really good.
Like this is how he’s always done it, the only way he’s ever known to do it, so he’s mastered it to perfection.
Atsumu doesn’t even realize he’s cussing a string of swear words, and just when he does, he comes untouched without even seeing it coming or feeling it build up. Sakusa follows only seconds after, grunting ‘fuck’ into Atsumu’s shoulder as he fucks deep into him, but he’s otherwise quiet.
Sakusa only gives him a few seconds to recover before he starts to squirm under him.
“Okay. Get off.”
“That was nice but this isn’t very gentlemanly of ya, I’ll have to admit.” Atsumu complains, while easing off him anyway, wincing at the sting. Once he’s pulled out, he collapses next to Sakusa on the couch, still trying to catch his breath.
And then… it’s quiet. Not in a good way.
It’s the kind of aftersex quiet that says that no one in the room knows what the fuck is gonna happen from now on.
It’s Sakusa who breaks the stilted silence with, “So… I’m gonna head out now.”
Atsumu blinks. “Oh. Alright, then.”
He pretends not to be too disappointed about not getting any cuddles.
He watches as Sakusa grabs his boxers and pants on the ground, shimmying into them lazily but swiftly all the same. He seemed to do everything swiftly.
Once he’s fully clothed, he stands up.
“That was good.” He says, without even looking at him. “Thanks.”
Atsumu doesn’t know how he feels about all this. So, he chuckles weakly. “Right. Thanks too, I guess.”
Sakusa heads for the door and Atsumu hurriedly reaches for his towel, wrapping it around his waist.
He rushes to open the door for him and just as Atsumu’s about to lean forward and give him a goodbye kiss, which he usually does after a good fuck, Sakusa turns away.
“Kiss me and I’ll kill you.”
Right.
“Didn’t expect anythin’ less, Omi. Yer so predictable it’s insane.” Atsumu says cheerily, leaning against his door frame. “We doin’ this again?”
Sakusa seems to debate in his head a little. “Maybe. But tell anyone and I’ll—”
“— kill me, got it.” Atsumu smiles, saluting him. “G’night, Omi-Omi.”
“Mmm.” is all the man offers him before walking off to his own apartment.
Atsumu waits for the door next to his to slam before closing his own.
Huh.
Weird, he thinks to himself.
He turns back around to his dark, empty apartment. And as he always does when his brother spends the night away, he grabs his blanket from his room and takes it to the couch with him, huddling up.
He closes his eyes and listens to the comforting background noise of a street brawl happening somewhere outside their building until he falls asleep.
