Work Text:
During his lunch period, Hitoshi receives a text from his aunt telling him to stay in the dorms tonight or risk losing his sanity. He doesn’t quite know what that means, but he doesn’t think he wants to know, so he doesn’t question it and shoots a text to his dads to let them know. The next text he gets a minute later is also from his aunt demanding that he take ‘blondie’ out on a date and gets a venmo notification that she sent him twenty dollars. Fair enough.
They sit at lunch with their friends, so Hitoshi leans over to whisper in his boyfriend’s ear, knowing that Mina and Sero would send them winks and wiggling eyebrows if they heard him ask Denki out.
“Date tonight?”
Denki immediately lights up and turns to whisper in the alpha’s ear. “Really! But you have family nights on Fridays?”
“Change of plans,” he says, pecking the blond boy’s cheek.
“Then yes!”
“Wanna say around five that I’ll pick you up?”
“You mean that you’re gonna meet me at my dorm,” Denki says, smirking.
“Yes, exactly.”
Denki leans his head on his boyfriend’s shoulder, which sends a little jolt through Hitoshi, but he doesn't mind. He’s learned over their years of dating that it just means that Denki’s excited.
---
A planetarium had recently opened up across the city, and Hitoshi had been itching to get Denki there. Lately, Denki has been fixated on space and very into constellations, so he knows that he will love it.
When Hitoshi gets back to his dorm, he purchases the tickets online before jumping in the shower. The young alpha shaves because he knows his omega prefers smooth kisses over scratchy kisses and uses the body wash that Denki says makes him smell even more snuggable than usual.
Getting out of the shower, Hitoshi stops and looks in the mirror, wiping his hand across it to get rid of the fogginess. He has noticed over the past few weeks that his undereyes are less dark than usual. He doubts that they’ll ever fully go away, but it’s definitely a start. Denki had been coming to his dorm at night for a while now, claiming that he needs his alpha’s cuddles in order to fall asleep. And being the sucker that he is, Hitoshi can’t say no to him. Denki prefers to lay on top of his boyfriend and trap him in bed, so by default he is getting a more regular sleep schedule. He’s pretty sure the omega is doing it on purpose but loves the feeling of being needed, so he’s not going to argue.
Hitoshi styles his hair and pulls on a crewneck sweater and some jeans that his dad had gotten him. He hates to admit it, but his alpha father had good taste.
Hitoshi diddle daddles a little in his room before he realizes that he’s so bored. Well, better go bother his boyfriend even though it’s only four-thirty. He climbs up the stairs and knocks on Denki’s door.
The sound of a hair dryer shutting off is heard before Denki shouts “Nuh-uh! You said five and I’m not ready to go yet!”
“No rush, I just missed you.” That makes Denki open his door, cheeks twinged pink. The end of his blow dryer is stuck in his mouth as he powered it to style his hair.
“Then you may enter.”
Hitoshi sits on Denki’s bed and wraps his arms around Denki’s waist when he comes to stand in between his spread legs. Hitoshi isn’t quite sure what is causing such a light feeling in his chest today, but he just feels so happy at the moment. He scents Denki as he continues to get ready.
Hitoshi reflects on the past few years of his life. Because of his quirk, he never thought he would be this happy. After he lost his parents, people were constantly telling him that he could never have a family. Now, he has a position in the hero course, two loving parents, a little sister, a soon-to-be little brother, genuine friends, and most importantly the love of his life. He feels so lucky to have the little ball of sunshine in his life and he would do anything to keep him by his side.
“What’s got you so clingy? That’s usually my job,” Denki jokes.
Hitoshi wraps his arms tighter around his boyfriend and buries his face in his back. “I don’t know. I just love you.”
Denki turns in his embrace with doe eyes. “I love you, too. Shall we get this show on the road?”
Hitoshi hums and stands, still not taking his hands off of Denki. Hitoshi slips his hand into his boyfriend’s, leading him out the door until Denki pulls back a little.
“Oh, hold on. I forgot to grab my wallet,” he says turning to his bags, but Hitoshi gently pulls him away.
“No, I got it.”
“But we usually split?”
“Let’s just say we received a date fund this time,” he says, reminding himself to thank his aunt.
Denki shrugs. “Alright. Where are we going?”
“That is for me to know and you to find out,” Hitoshi says, squeezing his hand gently. They wave to their friends who are working on homework at the dining room table as Bakugou cooks them dinner.
“A surprise?”
Hitoshi hums and starts walking them in the direction of the train station. The young alpha used to have to take the train to get to school everyday when he was still in foster care. The feeling of going back that path is a little weird for him, but this time he gets to take the train to the other side of the city to spend time with someone he loves instead of going back to a cold home.
Hitoshi goes on about a part he’s stuck on in the latest game he’s been playing on his nintendo. Hitoshi listens and chimes in while stroking Denki’s embraced hand with his thumb. He used to be annoyed with people who wouldn’t stop talking or leave him alone, but after he met Denki, he realized he loves the constant chatter if it’s coming from him.
When they get to the train station, Denki immediately cuddles up to his side as they stand waiting for the trains. Since it’s a Friday, the station was a bit busier than usual, so Denki stays close to his boyfriend. The boy has a track record of getting lost and into weird situations, so it’s better for Hitoshi to keep an eye on him.
As the train pulls up, they see that it’s packed, but there are of course spots open to stand. Once on the train, Hitoshi pulls the other boy close to him. The alpha reaches up to hold onto the bar above his head, and the omega holds onto his bicep. Hitoshi would never admit it to anybody because he doesn’t want to come off as an alpha who cares only about being dominant and possessive because really he’s not, but he loves that he’s so much taller than Denki. The blond is small and cute, but can totally kick ass, and Hitoshi loves that about him. As his grip on his arm increases, Hitoshi can’t help but smile. But his smile falls short when he can smell the slight change in his boyfriend’s scent, which has shifted to content and excited to anxious.
Hitoshi looks down and follows Denki’s gaze to an older man staring at the omega. There was no way in hell that Hitoshi was going to let this make his boyfriend uncomfortable or ruin their date, so he shifts his stance to block the other man’s gaze of Denki with his body and stares the man down until he looks away. He then releases his scent to distract his boyfriend and pulls out his phone and headphones. The two of them have a shared playlist that always seems to make the blond happy when he listens to it.
By the time they make it to their stop, Denki seems comfortable, especially since the other man got off the train a few stops before them. The two of them were excited. They often didn’t get to go on traditional dates because of their busy school and hero training schedules, but that was okay. They were completely content and happy with their relationship, but it was still nice to go on a cheesy date.
Hand-in-hand, the couple walks to their destination. When they are just about to turn the corner to see the front of the planetarium, Hitoshi speaks up. “Are you okay with closing your eyes for a second?” The alpha knows how much his omega loves surprises.
Denki does it without question. “Don’t let me fall.”
“I would never.” Hitoshi covers Denki’s eyes with the palms of his hands and guides him around the corner until they stand at the entrance. He gently removes his hands and places them on Denki’s shoulders.
The second Denki opens his eyes and gasps, turning around to jump into Hitoshi’s arms. Denki’s smile was brilliant.
“I’ve been wanting to come here for ages!” He says placing kisses all over his face. Denki gives him one big kiss on his lips before letting himself go, grabbing his boyfriend’s hand, and pulling him to the entrance. Hitoshi had a smile on his face the whole way.
They find seats in the back where nobody can bother them and nobody will be mad at Denki when he can’t keep quiet, and definitely not because Denki hopes they can make out during a meteor shower. The show starts and Hitoshi admires his boyfriend as pure joy and amazement is obvious on his face. The ceiling of the planetarium was stunning, and Denki was mesmerized by the galaxy presented to him.
Denki turns to his boyfriend and whispers to him. “Did you know that Saturn has eighty-two moons?”
Hitoshi leans down and whispers back to him. “No, I did not.”
Denki nods and starts a rant about its rings, and its orbit distance, and polar diameter. Hitoshi listens the entire time, nodding and making sure his boyfriend knows that he’s listening. Most people don’t think that he’s smart because it may take him a little longer to learn things so they don’t pay attention to him, but Hitoshi knows that he really is brilliant when he puts his mind to it. Because of his quirk, Denki has been studying sciences for the majority of his life and is able to rattle off every detail about electricity and its mechanics.
Even in the dark room, Hitoshi can tell that his boyfriend is beaming.
After a while, they just sit together and admire the stars and constellation patterns, Denki resting his head on Hitoshi’s shoulder and gripping his arm.
“I feel so small right now,” Denki mumbles.
Hitoshi looks down. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, it’s a good feeling, like it’s giving me perspective. Like I feel lucky to be a part of this galaxy, look how beautiful it is,” Denki says, gesturing to the display of space.
“I feel so lucky to be a part of this galaxy because I have you.”
Denki leans back to look at his boyfriend, face burning and pink, but he tries to play it cool. “That’s so cheesy, did you practice that line in the mirror?”
Hitoshi laughs. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”
Denki snuggles back into his boyfriend’s side as Hitoshi wraps his arm around him. They stayed like that as they continued to watch the show.
---
When the planetarium is close to closing, they head out, but not before stopping in the gift shop. Denki was busy looking at the stuffed animals and rocks, so he didn’t notice that Hitoshi purchased anything until they’re leaving and he spots the bag.
“What’d you get?” he asks.
Hitoshi leans down to peck his cheek before answering. “It’s a surprise for the second part of our date.”
Denki is insanely curious. He didn’t know this date was a two-parter, but he was going to let Hitoshi keep his surprise.
On the train ride home, it’s less busy than earlier, so they get seats this time. Denki easily falls asleep on his boyfriend. Hitoshi lets him sleep and takes the moment of peace to just enjoy the moment. He wakes Denki gently when they get to their stop, who is very sleepy up until the moment they get back to their dorms.
Once Denki fully recognizes that they’re in front of his door, he suddenly gets a little nervous. It’s normal for them to spend time alone with each other in one of their dorms, so he should feel completely fine about this, but something is nagging at him in the back of his mind. Earlier when he was in the hallway, Denki overheard a conversation between some of the underclassmen who were discussing a beta that was broken up with because he wouldn’t sleep with her alpha. It’s not like Denki would normally think Hitoshi would even consider using sex as an ultimatum, he’s just not that type of person. But the fact that Denki had heard it that day makes the idea fresh in his mind, and people are allowed to be a little insecure sometimes, okay?
Denki knows that his scent turns a little sour when Hitoshi turns to him once they’re inside his room.
“Baby? What’s wrong?” the alpha asks, stroking his boyfriend’s cheek with his thumb.
“Nothing,” Denki says, averting his eyes. He doesn’t want to ruin the date just because he’s nervous over something that he knows probably won’t happen.
“Denks, I’ve known you for almost three years. I know when something is wrong, and you know you can tell me anything.”
Denki takes a deep breath. Hitoshi was right and that he will always listen to him. “Hito… you’re not expecting sex tonight, right?”
“What?” he asks.
“Because I just don’t think I’m ready yet to go all the way and you know I’m still not on birth control and as much as I think pups are super amazing I don’t want to risk it and I’m just nervous is all and I love you but right now I just want to stick to being intimate in other ways,” Denki rushes out. He didn’t mean to word vomit all over his boyfriend, but it felt good to get it all out.
Hitoshi listens to every word he says, not interrupting him once. “Denki, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable or push your boundaries. I promise I won’t ever pressure you into anything you don’t want to do,” he says gently.
“No, no, it’s nothing you did. I just heard people talking earlier, and I guess I psyched myself out a little bit,” Denki says with a little laugh. He knew he had nothing to worry about, but he’s glad they’re talking about it.
“Are you sure?”
Denki nods. “I promise I feel really safe with you.”
That makes Hitoshi’s alpha extremely happy to hear. He pulls the omega into his chest, resting his chin on the top of his head while swaying side to side a little bit. “I think part two of our date will cheer you up a bit,” he mumbles into Denki’s hair.
“Really?”
“Yeah, I’ll be right back. Wanna change into pajamas while I’m gone?”
Denki digs around in his drawers, that Bakugou makes him neatly make every few weeks, and pulls out a gigantic t-shirt and the pair of sleep shorts that make Hitoshi blush every time.
Like promised, Hitoshi comes back shortly but this time with an armful of at least three big fluffy blankets and two pillows that no normal person should be able to carry all at once. He plops them on Denki’s bed before making a little ta-da pose at the pile. The materials were all colorful and full of exciting patterns.
“Hito, what is all of this?” Denki asks with a little laugh.
The alpha scratches the back of his neck and looks at the big pile. “Well, I overheard you and my dad talking a while ago about how you wanted to make a nest here in your dorm, but I know that you’re really busy right now, so I got you some supplies. I even had the bakusquad each scent something in the pile.” His cheeks were slightly pink, and Denki could tell that he was a little nervous. “Then, I saw that you were looking up articles on how to properly build a nest and that you bookmarked one that looked like a blanket fort, so then I got some hooks so that you could hang up the blankets a little bit.”
Denki stands there in shock. This was the absolute best surprise ever, but Denki realizes in his silence that Hitoshi must have mistaken his reaction and immediately started apologizing.
“I’m sorry, I thought that this would be a good idea and that you would like it, but we can take them back and you can get new ones, or if you want to do it yourself that’s totally fine, too.”
Denki rushes in front of him and grabs his hands. “No, no, I love them so much! I promise! I’m just really surprised. Will you help me make my nest?”
“You want me to help? Don’t omegas usually want to make their nest themselves?”
“Well, I’ve only made one, and I want your input. I mean, you’re probably going to be spending a ton of time in it with me,” Denki says, smiling wide.
“O-okay then, yeah, I’d love to,” Hitoshi responds, voice cracking slightly.
In the corner of his dorm, the two of them get to work arranging pillows and blankets and some loose items of clothing into a nest with a barrier. Hitoshi helps him stick the hooks to the wall so that they can hang a comforter to create the actual fort part, while the blond runs to grab something else for his nest. Denki returns holding a couch cushion.
“Denks?”
“Yeah?”
“Where did you get that?”
“Where do you think I got it, silly goose?”
“Denki?”
“Yeah?”
“I don’t think you’re allowed to have that.”
“Pfft, says you! Besides, nobody was down there when I took it, and I doubt you’ll tattle on me.”
“Oh yeah? Why won’t I tattle on you?”
“Because I’m too cute,” Denki says, fluttering his eyelashes.
Hitoshi sighs. “Unfortunately, you’re right.”
Denki leans the couch cushion up to act as a more sturdy wall for his nest fort.
“Okay! I think it’s done,” the omega says, crawling into his nest and dragging the alpha in there as well.
“Hold on, one more thing.” Hitoshi grabs the bag that he got from the planetarium gift shop.
“Can you close your eyes one more time?”
After a minute and a click noise, Hitoshi tells him to open his eyes. Again, Denki is speechless. All over the fort were beautiful soft stars surrounding him from the projector sitting in the middle of his nest.
“Do you like it?” Hitoshi asks quietly.
“Hito, I love it,” Denki whispers back to him. The omega was so nervous for the past few weeks about not being able to make a nest that truly satisfies his inner omega because he has never had the chance to let himself learn to make nests, but now he finally felt content. Most of his stressors from the past few weeks evaporate and he just is himself with his alpha in his nest. Yup, it can’t get much better than this.
Denki sits up and climbs into Hitoshi’s lap. He straddles his waist and leans in, pressing their lips together. They slowly move their lips, sharing an intimate kiss. Denki never wants this moment to end. When Denki breaks the contact, Hitoshi chases his lips, not wanting the kiss to end.
“Can we just stay here together all night?” Denki asks.
To answer him, Hitoshi just lays his omega into the pile of blankets and kisses him again, laying down with him.
Hitoshi and Denki could both admit that it was the best night of sleep that they had in a long time.
---
The next morning, Denki and Hitoshi stand in the kitchen together, making coffee when they hear Bakugou yelling. “What the hell happened to the couch cushion!”
Hitoshi has to hide his smug smile behind his mug.
