Work Text:
It’s… a little awe inspiring how little it takes for Diavolo to ditch work to hang out with you.
After what felt like a dream of a late night snack run to AkuDonald’s, you find it so much easier to reach out to the prince of the devildom, both in conversation, and to catch his hand as you pass him by in the halls of R.A.D.- it’s deeply satisfying to hear Lucifer call after you both as you and Diavolo take off running down the hallway.
The laughter that booms from the prince’s chest, the sound of pure delight and gleeful joy, makes any hours of lecture you’ll receive later worth it.
The unmatched joy in Diavolo’s eyes, matching beat for beat his laugh, makes it more than worth it.
“So, what are we going to do today,” He asks, your name breathless on his lips.
“Well, the same thing we do every night, Diavolo.” You pause for dramatic flair; Diavolo can’t help leaning in a smidge, curious and on the edge of his seat. “Take over the world.”
He gives another booming laugh as he responds with, “How ominous! I’m assuming from that pause, you’re referencing something?”
“Mhm! It’s from an old 90s cartoon called the Animaniacs that had a segment all about these lab rats, and it often started or included those lines.” You grin fondly at the memory of waking up early on Saturday mornings to watch the reruns.
“The reason I bring it up, though, is because I managed to get my hands on a boxed set someone was seeing over g-bay. I have a, uh,” you take a moment for a ‘coughing fit’, sandwiching a very blatant “bullshit” between two coughs before continuing, “interest in continued positive human-demon relations and think that one of my favorite cartoons would provide valuable insight into human culture.”
As you weave your web of bullshit that you know would stand up against any Official complaints, Diavolo can only look on in happy, joyful awe. After tens thousands of years of schooling his features into regal, neutral expressions, he’s above showing every feeling that washes over him; but his mouth is left hanging open as you so obviously and boldly propose marathoning your boxed set of cartoons with him.
He’s not slack jawed, but his lips are clearly parted for all to see- the hall is currently empty but, anyone could walk by and see it.
Diavolo feels so happy, he feels like he could burst.
He lets himself laugh again, booming across the tiled floor. “I agree wholeheartedly! Do you have a place you wish to view it at or…?” Diavolo could see that gleam in your eye, and he wanted to know where it led.
He Did Not however, think it would lead with him, here, smuggled into your room as you both curled up on your bed and watched these cartoons on your laptop- he hadn’t known devildom laptops even had DVD players.
