Work Text:

"Give your heart and soul to charity

'Cause the rest of you

The best of you

Honey, belongs to me"

Charlie glanced back up at the clock on his side table. 10:30pm. Knox should’ve come back by now. How long does it take you to mingle with alums that your parents make you have dinner with? He sighed before going back to the same paragraph he’s been reading.

It was on his 4th attempt at reading it again when the knob to his door turned and with fervor, Knox busted in with a weird look on his face. Charlie first noticed his jacket was now taken off and his tie slightly loosened but then noticed his skin was flushed and his hair wasn’t gelled down anymore and instead, was slightly disheveled with bits sticking out. Knox burped a somewhat of a greeting to Charlie, which confirmed his thoughts.

Knox drank...a lot.

“Well, someone had a good time” Charlie remarked with a laugh clearly enjoying the fact that Knox was a light-weight yet probably drank one too many beers. Knox replied with a small groan as he tried to take of his tie, and obviously failing. “I drn’t feel gooood” he comments.

“You don’t look good either, dumbass. So that’s understandable.” Charlie replied as he got up from his bed and helped Knox undress. The taller’s legs wobbled as Charlie tried removing his pants, which made him laugh. “Whatr youu tryna dyu, Dalton?” Knox slurred.

“Trying to make sure you don’t break a hip, Overstreet” Charlie patiently replied before finally getting Knox into his sleepwear and into a bathroom stall to vomit, pee, or both.

Charlie sighed in relief and went back to bed and picked up the book, determined to finish the chapter by the end of the night. He got halfway through the paragraph before he gets interrupted again by a groaning Knox, entering their room. Charlie expected to hear the opposite bed creak but instead felt his bed dip and looked up from his book to see Knox curled up to him with his head on his lap like a cat wanting to be pet. Charlie shook his head but ran his fingers absentmindedly through Knox’s hair anyway.

“I hate drinkin’ ” Knox commented with significantly less slurring which garnered a chuckle from the other. “and I hate studying, but we all gotta do things we don’t like, sweetheart” Charlie coos sarcastically.

Knox blurted a “Read me to shleep”, clearly wanting to end the conversation. Charlie rolled his eyes and yanked the piece of hair he held, which made the other groan again, but he ultimately looked back at his book and read out loud:

“And there is nothing left to do

But to kiss once again, and part,

Nay, there is nothing we should rue,

I have my beauty,; you your Art,

Nay, do not start,

One world was not enough for two

Like me and you.”

Notes:

1. a short one right now (to prepare for the upcoming grossly dramatic and cheesy one)
2. the poem at the end is Her Voice by Oscar Wilde *wink* *wink*
3. Feel free to leave a kudos or a nice comment! I love reading them!
