Work Text:
Makoto had never been one to pay attention to the rumor mill that swirled around the halls of Shujin Academy. She assessed what little information was relevant to carrying out her duties as student council president, with the vast majority of gossip being of little importance to her. There was no need for her to be aware of who was dating who, who’d committed a fashion faux pas, or whose parents were headed towards divorce. As far as she was concerned, her peers would all be better off if they spent more time focusing on their studies than on absorbing and further spreading such inconsequential information.
As such, she’d grown accustomed to only catching glimpses of the chatter that surrounded her as she went about her busy days, her mind having grown adept at picking up on key phrases that required her attention in looking after the student body.
“I can’t believe I’ve never noticed how handsome he was before now.”
“I know! Cute and brave? It’s such a perfect combination.”
“I wonder if he’s dating anyone…”
Makoto rolled her eyes as she passed the group of first year female students. Didn’t these girls have anything better to do than gush about boys so close to final exams? At times like this she felt like she belonged to an entirely different species.
“I hear he spends a lot of time with Takamaki-senpai…”
At the sound of her friend’s name, Makoto froze in place. What were the chances that those girls weren’t talking about someone she knew?
“That would make sense...the foreigner and the delinquent finding love together…it’s like something you’d read in a shoujo manga!”
Oh.
They were talking about Ren. Her Ren. (Not that he was hers in an ownership type of way, but in that they’d been dating exclusively for months. If anyone was going to be gushing about his level of attractiveness in the middle of a school day, it would be her. Not some first years who knew nothing about him except for his most superficial qualities and what they’d heard about through mindless gossip.)
She could feel her face flushing as she stewed on this revelation, the girls’ mindless chatter continuing in her periphery. Why was she getting so bothered at the idea of other girls openly discussing how attractive her boyfriend was? It’s not like they even knew Ren had a girlfriend, after all. They’d kept their relationship a secret when at school, saving their displays of affection for when they were alone or with their friends.
Still, she couldn’t control the anger that twisted her features as she looked back at the small group of first years, who instantly cowered under her glare.
“Niijima-senpai looks pissed. Quick, let’s get out of here!”
“Ren, can I ask you something?”
They were huddled in a booth at Leblanc, their coursework scattered in front of them. As they drew nearer to their final exams, they were both so overloaded with their academics and other responsibilities that studying proved to be one of the only ways for them to be in each other’s company. Ren especially was spending more time than usual studying, having to catch up on time wasted while in jail. Evidently, Shujin did not consider “incorrectly imprisoned” as a valid excuse for falling behind academically.
At her question, Ren looked up from his notes. “Of course. What is it?”
Makoto twirled her pen between her fingers, hesitating as she gathered her thoughts. “Have you noticed anyone treating you differently since you came back?”
“What do you mean?”
She paused as she thought about how to best introduce the topic she wanted to discuss. No matter how she phrased her response in her head, she couldn’t help but feel she would come across as irrational, bordering on overly dramatic.
“I overheard some girls talking about you today...and they seemed quite interested in you. Romantically,” she clarified, warmth flooding her cheeks along with a feeling of instant regret. Was she starting to sound like a crazy girlfriend?
Ren didn’t seem to pick up on her discomfort, reaching up to rub the back of his neck sheepishly as if she’d complimented him. “Oh, that. The rumor about me being part of the Phantom Thieves seems to really be taking off. I got asked for my autograph a lot this week, and there’s this group of girls that keeps asking me to walk them home. I say no, obviously.”
At the comment about “the group of girls”, Makoto’s mood shifted from embarrassed to downright livid. Trying to keep her face composed, she channeled her frustration into the pen in her hand, tightening her hold on the instrument harshly enough that her knuckles began to whiten.
It wasn’t that she wanted her fellow students to continue thinking of Ren as a delinquent. She knew all too well how much those vicious rumours had affected him over the past year. But there was something about the way Ren delivered the information, almost as if he found the attention flattering, that didn’t sit quite well with her. To his credit, Ren seemed to have picked up on her change in mood.
“Makoto,” he began, reaching across to still her nervous movements. “You know you’re the only girl whose attention I care about, right? No one else matters. I’m not going to run off with some ditzy first year.”
“I know,” she said, chewing on her lip anxiously. He was right–she had no qualms about his fidelity and his devotion to her. No matter how much she doubted herself and her worth as a romantic partner, she trusted him. “It’s not you I’m worried about. I just don’t like the idea of other girls throwing themselves at you.”
An all-too-familiar smirk appeared on his face, unnerving her. She could just tell that he had something on the tip of his tongue, and that, whatever it was, she wasn’t going to like it.
“What?” she asked, narrowing her eyes.
“It’s just...” he started, his smirk deepening despite her clear annoyance, “seeing you getting all jealous like this, it’s kind of hot.”
“E-excuse me?” she hissed at him, conscious of how her voice rose in pitch. Was he actually getting some sort of pleasure in observing her mess of emotions?
Ren leaned in across the table, the half-lidded look in his eyes sending a needy pang down her spine all the way to her toes. “What do you think about moving our studying upstairs?”
Despite her body’s reaction to the intensity of his gaze, his earlier words made her want nothing more than to wipe that smug look off his face. For now, she’d ignore her own arousal to serve that purpose.
“Not tonight.” She scowled as he pouted, turning his attention back to his books.
The attention Ren received did not relent. If anything, it increased dramatically. Throughout the week, whenever she caught sight of her boyfriend, there always seemed to be a gaggle of girls near him, whispering and pointing. Somehow, he’d gone from Shujin’s most notorious student to the most sought-after (thought to be) bachelor. While the rumours involving his grand heroics as a phantom thief had ignited his newfound popularity among the student population, his (admittedly) good looks seemed to be the driver that kept them flowing, particularly with the female students. As time went on, Makoto grew more likely to overhear comments praising her boyfriend’s physique and attractiveness openly being discussed in the halls. His admirers were becoming increasingly difficult to avoid.
Beyond their conversation at Leblanc, Makoto had avoided bringing up her concerns again with Ren. The last thing she wanted to do was fuel his suspicions that she was falling into the cliche of the overly jealous girlfriend. She was trying to be better than that, but the vicious thoughts proved to be more intrusive than she’d anticipated.
There was a particularly annoying moment one morning that brought the whole situation past its breaking point. As she was standing by the library doors, looking over her notes before homeroom, she caught sight of Ren at the other end of the hallway. They locked eyes and he smiled as he began to make his way over to her, most likely to wish her a good morning before heading to Kawakami’s classroom. Makoto shyly smiled back at him, amazed at how he could manage to fluster her with the smallest of displays of affection months into their relationship.
The happy moment, however, was short lived. Ren had barely made it halfway through the corridor when he was intercepted by a girl who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere, and promptly cornered him until he almost had his back against the wall. Makoto vaguely recognized her as a popular second year, her rising anger at the display preventing her from noticing any additional identifying traits.
The girl was brazen with how openly she flirted with Ren, giggling as she looped her arm through his, although his deadpan expression suggested he had not said anything remotely comical. She began to point towards the stairs, pouting as Ren shook his head and refusing to loosen her hold as he tried to gently disentangle himself. If anything, his refusal seemed to spur her on, and Makoto felt her pulse begin to quicken as she watched the girl lean in even closer to Ren to whisper something in his ear, either unaware or uncaring of the way he angled himself to avoid her attempt to close the distance between them.
The girl giggled once more as she pulled on his arm, making it clear that she would not let him escape until he entertained whatever ridiculous request she had presented him with. There was no getting rid of her without making a scene. Ren shot her an exasperated and apologetic look before finally allowing himself to be dragged towards the stairwell and out of her view.
The scene replayed itself in her head all morning. Makoto failed to absorb any of the material being taught, grateful that she was so on top of her studies that her lack of attention would not affect her overall performance.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Large splotches of ink began to form across her notebook as she tapped her pen repeatedly against the paper, unable to shake that morning’s incident from her thoughts. She was revolted by the memory of the girl flipping her hair, fluttering her eyelashes, standing way too close to him, touching him. Only Makoto was allowed to touch Ren like that, to lean into him close enough that their skin made contact. She was the only one who had the right to look at Ren with such affection and adoration.
If only these girls, these wannabe suitors, knew all the things they’d done together, the ways they’d practically branded each other. Perhaps then they’d know better than to try and interfere in their relationship, to try and insert themselves where they didn’t belong.
Makoto shook her head in an effort to rid herself of the negativity swirling around in her head, drawing in a deep breath in an attempt to quell the anger that was threatening to spill over. There was nothing to be gained from getting heated in the middle of her history class, of all places.
Instead, she decided to break one of her most stringent rules, carefully pulling her phone from her bag to send a text to Ren.
Can you come to the student council room after school?
Then, for added measure, she added, Alone.
Makoto practically sprinted to the council room when her final class of the day let out, a mix of nerves and excitement energizing her stride. For once, she was grateful she was the only one who made use of this space outside of council meetings. It made for an excellent study space when the library was too crowded, and had served her well when she’d been investigating the Phantom Thieves and later Eiko’s movements in Shinjuku.
It would be serving an entirely different purpose today.
It didn’t take long for the knock, surprisingly quiet and hesitant for Ren, to come at the door. Makoto took a deep breath, steadying the apprehension that had been building in her gut for the past few hours before calling out to him.
“Come in.”
Ren looked sheepish as he entered, his approach slow and hesitant as if he was expecting a terse reception. “If this is about earlier, I’m really sorry. I was trying so hard to get rid of her, but she wouldn’t budge…”
Makoto ignored his rambling, reaching past him to lock the door, pausing for just a moment before deciding to close the deadbolt for added measure. Ren remained oblivious to her movements, still mid-apology.
“...I’ve never even seen her before, apparently she’s in the homeroom next to mine. Luckily Ann was able to help me get rid of her. I owe her one.”
When she didn’t answer, he took a step closer to her, misreading her anxiety for anger. As she had her back to him, Ren wrapped his arms around her middle, squeezing her tightly as he kissed the side of her head reassuringly.
“I understand if you’re mad, but you remember what I said the other day, right? There’s no one that could possibly—”
She didn’t give him the chance to finish his unnecessary explanation. Spinning around to face him, Makoto promptly pulled him into a heated kiss, catching him off-guard so that her lips met his open mouth, swallowing his muted cry of surprise. As he returned her kiss, she wasted no time in moving things along, walking him backward until the back of his knees hit the couch. She pushed him to take a seat with a gentle shove and Ren followed along obediently, all the while watching her with wide eyes.
“I’m not mad at you.” Makoto broke the silence, chewing on the inside of her cheek as she looked down at him.
“Y-you’re not mad?”
“No, I’m mad,” she corrected. “Just not at you — at those girls who think they can take what doesn’t belong to them.”
Her hands made their way into his hair, her fingernails raking his scalp and pulling a rumble from his chest that helped calm her nervousness. When he made sounds like that, there was little else she could focus on aside from provoking an encore.
Ren had grown so attuned to her body language and facial expressions since they’d begun dating that he was usually able to discern when she was in the mood fairly quickly. It seemed the morning’s events had rattled him just as much as it had her, as he was slower on the uptake this time. It wasn’t until she straddled his lap and kicked off her shoes that he appeared to finally realize her intent.
“Here?” His voice was laced with both nerves and excitement, his head swivelling from side to side as if he expected to spot some hidden voyeur watching them from the corner of the room.
Makoto took hold of him by the chin, forcing his attention back towards her with a powerful jerk of her hand. At that, his pupils widened, his eyes glistening with newfound anticipation. “I’ve been thinking of you all day.”
She moved her palms down the expanse of his chest, appreciative of how she could feel the firm muscles of his abdomen through his uniform. Even without the metaverse, Ren still worked out regularly, and while she was attracted to him for reasons far beyond his appearance, she was still grateful for the effect this diligence had on his physique. Eager to feel more of him, she slid her hands under the hem of his shirt and back up his chest. As her cool hands met the warm skin of his torso, Ren shivered at the sensation, his muscles constricting at her touch. He was evidently just as worked up as she was; she could feel him twitching beneath her, the beginning of his arousal pressing against her own.
Ren lifted his hands to begin working the buttons of her shirt, but she quickly put a stop to his motions by taking hold of his wrist. He made no effort to hide the exasperation on his face. In return, Makoto gave him a look that she hoped communicated that, for the time being, she was in charge. Ren thankfully seemed to grasp her meaning, smirking coyly as he leaned back, ready to enjoy whatever she had planned for him.
Makoto leaned in to kiss him again. While her earlier movements had been desperate and hurried, this time she kissed him slowly, using her tongue to explore his mouth as her hands slowly trailed up his arms to his shoulders before gently cupping his face.
It took all of her self-control to remove Ren’s hands from her body when they landed on her hips, his fingers digging into the fabric of her skirt. She knew if she allowed him to touch her, she would immediately lose her nerve and abandon her plan for how this encounter would progress.
“When I say,” she told him firmly. Although clearly frustrated, he obeyed, letting his hands fall back to his sides.
She continued to kiss him, deepening their embrace and allowing herself to get lost in the intimacy of the act. She was reminded of when they’d first begun dating and the physical aspect of their relationship was still in its beginning stages. They could spend an entire hour back then just kissing, touching each other innocently, hesitantly. It felt nice to be experiencing such a moment once again, to savor the feeling of his lips on hers without speeding towards the main event.
When she finally pulled away, she took a moment to admire the swollen, deep red of his lips, and the disheveled state of his hair, more pronounced than usual from where she’d ran her fingers through it. She always loved looking at him like this, when the evidence of their intimacy was evident on his features. She was the only one who got to see him like this—the infamous leader of the Phantom Thieves and, allegedly, the most desired man at Shujin—as he unraveled under her touch.
Eager to move things along, Makoto quickly removed his glasses with one hand as the other gently smoothed out his bangs. Ren smirked as she tossed them to the side, knowing as well as she did that this small gesture was a sure sign they were about to have sex.
Next came his shirt. As soon as she had a clear view of his torso, she began to trail her lips and her tongue across his chest, pausing here and there to suck what she hoped would be lingering marks along his skin. Ren’s breathing became more labored as she kissed her way down his body, stopping just above his belt before making her way back up. From her periphery, she noticed the growing tension in his knuckles as he gripped the edge of the couch desperately, doing his best to resist the temptation to reach over and touch her. The sight sent another proud thrill through her.
She concluded her exploration of his chest at his neck, picking a spot above his collar bone which she was certain would be visible when he wore his Shujin uniform. As soon as she settled on a patch of skin, she began to suck hungrily, grinding her hips along Ren’s who let out a frustrated groan.
Makoto didn’t relent until she was certain the bursts of red along Ren’s neck were sure to remain. She ran her fingers over the blossoming marks smugly, imagining the rumors such an obvious love bite would inspire once he left this room and returned to class. That would surely serve as a warning sign for the majority of his admirers. And anyone who failed to heed that warning, she could deal with herself.
Although the cluster of marks on his neck was undeniably the most pronounced, smaller red blotches littered his chest from where she’d previously feasted. It was unclear whether Ren had realized what she’d done to him in her frenzy, his eyes focused on her as he waited desperately for her instructions and for some semblance of relief. The sight of him like this, as if she had physically branded him as belonging to her, only served to make her crave more skin to skin contact.
She made quick work of unbuttoning her shirt and unhooking her bra, Ren’s eyes instantly falling to look at her chest as she threw the garments to the side. At the reverence in his gaze, Makoto grew warm as she usually did whenever she undressed in front of him. During the beginning of their relationship, she’d been wildly self-conscious about her body, especially the areas which she felt were lacking in contrast to that of her friends. It was growing increasingly difficult to hang onto those insecurities when she’d found a partner who wasted no opportunity to let her know how enamored he was with her body.
She’d expected her state of undress would prompt him to once again attempt to touch her, so she was pleasantly surprised when he dutifully kept his hands at his side. Makoto watched his expression carefully as she brought her hands to her breasts, sighing as she ran her thumbs over her sensitive nipples.
“I could do that for you, you know,” he said, his voice cracking. What he was attempting to nonchalantly pass off as a suggestion was clearly a plea.
“Watch for now,” she commanded.
He did just that, his eyes half-lidded and his mouth slightly parted as she continued to caress herself, teasing the underside of her breasts before running her thumbs in slow circles over her nipples. Although she was doing her best to maintain the impression that she was unfazed by their current situation, as if there was nothing unusual about the position they found themselves within school grounds, underneath the display she was feeling completely out of her element. She wondered if Ren could tell how flustered she was beneath the surface or if he was too caught up in the moment to notice.
Her self-consciousness began to alleviate as she continued to touch herself. With every careful stroke of her fingers over her chest, she felt the moisture between her thighs increasing, her body begging for further exploration. While one hand remained on her breast, the other made its way down her stomach, sneaking under the band of her skirt and her tights to soothe her growing need for stimulation. As her fingers worked, she instinctively began to rock against her own hand, her body moving against Ren’s as a result. He groaned, but remained still as she’d instructed.
“Makoto,” he pleaded, his voice pitched into a whine. “You’re killing me here. I thought I wasn’t in trouble.”
Well, he had a point there. He’d waited long enough. They both had.
Ren was finally provided with some much-needed relief as Makoto took his hands from where they were gripping the couch in earnest and placed them on her chest. His eyes lit up at the sign of permission, wasting no time in continuing what she’d started.
As empowering as it had felt to touch herself while he watched, her pleasure was heightened exponentially as he used his mouth, first to layer kisses along her neck and the column of her throat before moving down towards her chest, his tongue taking over for one set of his fingers. As he suckled and nipped at her breast, his free hand roamed over her body, landing underneath her skirt to squeeze her bottom. Even through the fabric of her tights, the warmth from his hands was electrifying.
Their relationship had been intimate for long enough that Ren knew just how to touch her so she quickly became a mewling mess in his lap. She rolled her hips along his thighs, pressing down hard enough so the friction began to provide her with some sort of relief. Ren’s movements stuttered as she increased her pace, his moans triggering vibrations against the breast on which his mouth was still latched. A part of her wondered if she could drive him to completion just from this. She would need to explore that hypothesis some other time.
“I can’t take much more of this,” he murmured, removing his mouth from her breast and looking up at her with pleading eyes. “Please.”
“What is it that you want, Ren?” she asked coyly, snaking a hand between them to cup his noticeable bulge. He hissed at her touch.
“I want to be inside of you,” he answered, low and breathy.
As much fun as she was having teasing Ren and experiencing this reversal in their usual dynamic, Makoto was no longer interested in drawing things out. She wanted him in that moment more than she’d ever wanted him before.
She quickly undid his belt and his zipper, hopping off Ren’s lap so she could slip off her underwear and tights. Ren stroked himself lazily as he watched her undress, his tongue darting out to moisten his upper lip as he caught sight of her bare legs. She once again straddled him, lining him up at her entrance before sinking down onto him.
Ren let out a stifled moan as he grasped at her hips, holding on tightly as she began to move at a swift and vigorous pace. He soon became near catatonic, his eyes fluttering closed as he rolled his head back against the couch. Makoto sped up her movements, resting her hands on either side of him to use the top of the couch as leverage. At the accelerated pace, Ren’s groans became unrestrained as he managed to choke out strings of praise and curses between labored breaths. Worries about being overheard fluttered at the recesses of her mind, but were easily swept to the side as she delighted in the sensations and sounds overwhelming her.
While it felt good, it wasn’t quite enough. She removed one of his hands from her hip, moving it under her skirt. No further prompting was needed as Ren worked his fingers against her. It didn’t take much longer for Makoto to feel that familiar electrical current coursing through her, increasing rapidly in intensity until she started to come apart. She tucked her face against his throat and wrapped her arms around his neck to support herself as her legs spasmed before settling. Ren stroked her back and nuzzled her shoulder as he patiently waited for her to recover.
Once she’d regained her bearings, Makoto resumed her movements, now wholly focused on allowing Ren to reach his own release. She increased her pace, helped along by the firm hold of his hands on her hips as he hungrily eyed the way her body moved as she bounced on top of him.
“Makoto, I—ah.” His voice trailed off, eyes screwed shut as he shuddered and tightened his hold on her.
When it was all over, Makoto collapsed against him, his heartbeat ringing loudly in her ear. Ren lazily traced her spine as he recovered from his daze.
“Holy shit.”
It took a long while before she could form a response of her own, her legs trembling as she removed herself from his lap, sitting on the backs of her thighs to avoid spreading any fluids on the couch. “I can’t believe we just did that in the student council room.”
“I never thought that would happen outside my dreams.”
“Y-You dreamed of this?” she sputtered, shooting him an incredulous expression as she fumbled to retrieve and slip on her discarded underwear. If he’d fantasized about being intimate with her in the student council room, were there other places he’d also dreamed of them fooling around in? Was that something she should ask him about if she wanted to be a good girlfriend? Those were probably concerns for another time.
“For way longer than I’m comfortable admitting,” he said, shifting as he tucked himself back into his pants. “Maybe since before we started dating.”
Before she could retort, he pulled her back into his lap, chuckling when she let out a small squeak of surprise. As her back met Ren’s chest, he wrapped his arms around her middle, his lips grazing the side of her neck. She hummed at the sensation.
“You know, maybe I should get you jealous more often.”
Makoto instantly felt her face flush in embarrassment. “Ren!”
As she turned to further admonish him, her protests died in her throat as she noticed, now with a clear head, just how much of a mess she’d left on her boyfriend’s body. Small red marks decorated his chest, stomach and shoulders, while a much larger and darker spot had been branded into the crook of his neck. She doubted he would last very long before his classmates and their friends noticed the obvious lovebite. As soon as either Futaba or Ryuji caught sight of him, they would never hear the end of it.
“What is it?” he asked, having picked up on her distress.
Too embarrassed to explain what she’d done, Makoto answered his question by pulling out her phone to show him instead. While she was mortified, Ren seemed unfazed as he responded with a small shrug.
“Worth it.”
