Summary:

I’d never dreamed that I’d love somebody like you.
And I’d never dreamt that I’d lose somebody like you.
(Wicked Game, Chris Isaac)

Can love be learnt? Can love be taught?

To deep feelings, profound consequences. And Jiang Cheng was about to know what falling hard could mean. But falling in love with his music teacher could only bring disgrace to his life.
Love was bittersweet, just like lotus seeds.

Chapter 1: Classics

Chapter Text

A-Cheng sang Losing my Religion as he happily poured the wine on the sauce. He took another gulp directly from it. In a good mood, singing to his favorite old songs, it was his heaven. His mouth was fully open to keep singing joyfully when he heard knocks. After a small pause, he heard it for the second time, he frowned. It pricked his interest, so he left the bottle on the counter next to the stoves and his laptop, he stirred the sauce a bit and lowered the fire. He grabbed the cloth he had on the oven handle to wipe his hands, pressed the spacebar to stop the music and went to the door to open it.

“Jiang Cheng!” Wei WuXian threw himself over A-Cheng dramatically. “I am so sad.” He said as he sobbed a little. “He cancelled last minute because of some stupid family problem.”

“What?”

Jiang Cheng almost let go of him just so he would plop face first to the floor, unfortunately, Wei Ying was already heading towards the kitchen interested in seeing what his brother was cooking.

“Well… it seems like I will buy dessert.” His brother said, smiling. “What about ice cream?”

“What? Hold on.” He closed the door and looked at his new uninvited guest. “What are you doing here?”

“Lan Zhan cancelled our date last minute, and I was already glammed up and everything.” With no shame whatsoever, he pouted. “So I thought that I could make you happy with my lovely presence this evening as I kind of complain a bit.”

Jiang Cheng sighed. “You better get the best fucking chocolate ice cream ever. Otherwise I am kicking your annoying ass out the door.”

“Jiang Cheng!” He pouted again. “My ass is too pretty to be kicked out.” A-Cheng’s response was just a roll of his eyes.

“You are lucky I still haven’t poured the pasta. I was making extra sauce anyway.”

“Are you making your extra delicious spicy red sauce that gets me salivating each time?” He said as he followed his little brother to the kitchen.

“Yes. Without meat this time, though.” With a spoon, he stirred the mixture checking  it hadn’t burnt at the bottom. Bossily, he spoke to his brother. “Get out two glasses and the pasta.”

“Going.”

Whenever he was hungry he became quite obedient. “Soo… what were you listening  to now?” He said motioning towards the laptop.

“R.E.M.” Jiang Cheng looked at the playlist.

“Boring and overused. Let’s play something more fun. Just thinking of ‘Everybody hurts’ makes me want to cut my ear off.”

“Van Gogh style? I can give you the knife.” The youngest brother smirked.

“Fuck you.” Wei WuXian laughed. “Here, the gay anthem.” He smiled laughing as he put one of the most hated songs in Jiang Cheng’s hate list, right before he caught the roll of napkins and pretended it was a microphone. “ There's a loving in your eyes all the way. If I listen to your lies, would you say.

“Oh god, please stop that.” He tried to grab the laptop to stop that awful song. However, having one hand full of pasta and a bottle of opened wine in the middle, Wei Ying was faster. To his despair, he sang louder. “ Karma, karma, karma, karma, karma chameleon. You come and go, you come and go. Loving would be easy if your colors were like my dreams. Red,  gold, and green, red, gold, and green .”

“Shut that up, he is disgusting!” He said frowning. To free his hands, he put the pasta on the boiling salted water and tried to run after him.

“I surrender! I surrender!” A-Ying said as he felt trapped in a corner, “I will change it.” He stopped the music. “What should I play?”

“Can I have my music back?”

“No.” He smiled brightly. “I know!” Without caring for his brother’s frown, he typed wobbly in the air with one finger as he held the laptop on one hand and the napkins on the other.

“I have a wooden spoon filled with red sauce and I am not scared of using it against your clothes.”

“Don’t you dare!” He said outraged. His clothes were like a part of him. After he found his style, each combination of clothing was precious to him. Always dressed fashionably, even being able to be comfortable, he took pride in what he wore. Jiang Cheng envied him; he, instead, was used to wearing whatever he first found, sometimes matching quite well, sometimes doing weird combinations. But as the handsome man he was -which he didn't believe to be- it could suit him, even if he didn’t care it did.

Bon Jovi started playing. “There, there, I’ve returned to your list of songs.” He said as he went to drop the laptop back to where it was. His fingers hurt from holding it for so long.

“Thank you, now, serve the wine and start speaking, in that order. I need some more alcohol in blood before I start hearing you talk about him.”

“Excuse you, you should be glad I talk to you about him. He is special.”

“As far as I remember you talk about him like: All. The. Fucking. Time.” He emphasized the last four words. “And to everyone. You even showed pictures of him to the uni’s janitor because I was fed up with you.”

“He was quite attentive, not at all like you.” A-Cheng received a good full glass of wine. That meant it would be a long story. WuXian moved the things to the side before jumping up to sit on the counter. “Well… anyways. It all started with...”

It was a long night after that.
