Chapter 1: Don't Ask Me

Chapter Text

        Did he move?”

Ah… of course that’s what’s important at this moment for Lan Xichen, if Jin fucking Guangyao moved.
        “Er-ge...”
        “Huaisang… Did.He.Move?”

Huaisang resisted the urge to roll his eyes, he felt a pang in his chest but chose to ignore it.

“Er-ge… at that moment he really looked like he moved.”
“HUAISANG” Lan Xichen said to the younger while his eyes widen, probably the widest they’ve ever been his entire life.

“If you ask me like that, I really don’t know, I-I don’t know” Huaisang opened his fan and covered his mouth with it, averting his gaze from the older.

        “Huais—"
        “he didn’t move”
Lan Xichen stared at him in disbelief
“he didn’t move… are you happy now? You got the answer Er-… Lan Zongzhu”
        “Huaisang why—”
“does it matter Zongzhu? I don’t even know why you’re asking me this”

        Huaisang stood up and left.

         He’s pissed, frustrated, hurt.

Is it really important if that vile thing moved or not?

Is it important? Did Lan Xichen want him to live? To “repent” on his sins? To just go about his life and pretend that he did not just kill the innocent? Huaisang is not innocent too, he’s had his fair share of underhanded tricks… no… not tricks…. Schemes, underhanded schemes… schemes that he formed for 13 fucking years.

Is it wrong? Is it wrong to avenge the weak? Is it wrong to bring justice to this godforsaken world? Is it wrong to avenge his Da-ge? Huaisang is alone now, alone for a long time now, he can’t even trust anyone, is that less important than the truth if Jin Guangyao moved or not? Huaisang knows to himself that he did the right thingsmostly right things… he failed a lot of times during those 13 years, might have caused minor chaos, but he made Wei Wuxian fix those, so Jin Guangyao moving or not is really the least important in all of these happenings.

        “Nie-xiong, you’re going home already?”
Wei-xiong… I’m not in the mood to deal with you right now, please… leave me for now”
Wei Wuxian grinned, amused. He shrugged and turned his back from the sect leader.
“Sure, I’ll go mess with Lan Zhan instead then!” followed by a giggle

Huaisang appreciatively nodded to Wei Wuxian, he’s really thankful that his friend… is he still his friend? He still is right? Like Jiang Cheng… they’re still his friends…right?

He shook his head and proceeded to go on his way, back to that meta cold place, his sect has been feeling like a cage than a home ever since his Da-ge died, for a lot of year now, no one is there to shout at him to practice the saber, those damned sabers.

He still hears his brother’s voice sometimes, he’d wake up every daybreak, he’d hear him… “A-sang, this brother will protect you so you can do whatever you want to do”, He have learned to loathe and miss those words, loathe it when his brother was still alive, he said those, but then forced him to practice the saber, broke his brushes… the same person who gave those brushes broke it… miss it because he understands, he now understands… “I should’ve listened to you Da-ge”

        [4 days later]

        “Nie-Zongzhu”

Huaisang raised his head from all the scrolls he has to sign. “Good timing Du Jian, get me out of here, I really need a break, I feel like my neck will fall off”, he even added an exaggerated waving of his fan.

        “Zongzhu it’s about Lan-Zongzhu”

Huaisang looked back at Du Jian he thought he’ll get a whiplash
He cleared his throat “what about him?”
The attendant pretended he did not see anything rather embarrassing
“He is to go into seclusion in 2 days”
“A what? Did I hear that correctly Du Jian?”

His attendant, his most skilled attendant did not just say that the First Jade is going into seclusion… right?

“No Zongzhu, you heard it right”

Huaisang stood up from his seat, and stormed out of his study.

         That coward, that fucking coward.
