Jotaro had just broken the news to me, he was returning home with Joseph soon. As much as it was a relief to hear that Joseph would be going, it made me a little sad to know that Jotaro was going as well. I liked him, he was rather easy to be around.
It was a nice change of pace to all the other people I knew, spending time with him usually meant stuff got done. Jotaro was that kind of person you could be around and not worry if he said he was going to get stuff done, he always got it done. No wonder so many people liked him.
I rubbed the back of my neck, feeling my hair come loose as I ran my fingers through it, gulping as I approached Jotaro, his towering height, even sitting down, still frightened me, even after all this long I barely mustered the confidence to approach such an intimidating figure- relative, or not.
"Hey, Jotaro?"
He made a small "mhm?" noise, acknowledging my question as he looked up from his paperwork. I was disturbing him in a way, I gulped again, steadying my breath.
"How, do you ask someone out?"
The question made him put his pen down, lean on his arm and tilt his head slightly at me, eyebrows raised slightly. "Why?"
Shit. Rubbing my arm as I rolled my shoulders, exhaling hard as an obvious blush formed. "Well- Shit I don't know, can't I just ask a simple question?" I stammered, watching Jotaro pick up his pen again and point it lazily towards me, requesting me in his silent, stone-faced way of Jotaro Kujo for me to get to the point.
"Its Okuyasu okay?! Fuck man, I wanna ask him out but-"
"But?"
"I don't know? I suspected maybe you would have a little experience in dating.. well, boys." I realised what I said, covering my mouth as I grumbled. "I mean-"
Jotaro laughed lightly, which threw me off guard. I watched him slump into his hand further, a quick smile spreading across his face before returning his usual poker-face at me. "And you want me to give you advice."
"Well if you say it like that it sounds like a shitty idea."
"Thats because it is. Higashikata you're sixteen, can't you ask your mother?" He sounded irritated with a linger of impatience in his voice, eyes drifting back and forth to me and the paperwork.
"She doesn't know I-" I pause, wetting my lips as I sighed. "She doesn't know."
Jotaro turned around in his chair fully, facing me dead on as he placed his hand on his armrest,
"The best advice I can give you is-" He pursed his lips, waving his pen-held-hand in the air slightly. "Be honest." He awkwardly replied, and like that, he was back to his paperwork, still slumped on his hand I saw a flash of a smirk before fading again. I grumbled, gripping the ends of my uniform as I embarrassingly made my way out of Jotaros hotel room, thanking him for the half-assed advice.
Stepping out of the fancy Morioh hotel I felt the temperature change from the cool, airconditioned rooms to the blistering heat from the sun. Shielding my eyes as I stepped into the light I groaned, sighing hard as I walked down the steep road into main Morioh.
I guess Jotaro did have a point, somehow. But why even after this long am I still intimidated by him? We're not too different in terms of height, Jotaro even said it's a common Joestar trait to be tall.
Was it his... Experience?
When Jotaro did talk on the rare occasion, he talked most of his time when he was younger. Something about travelling to Egypt and defeating a vampire named Dio. I didn't listen too much, it all sounded like some lie. Not like I would accuse Jotaro of lying, but it sounded unbelievable, even after having my own experience with people affected by this said Dio, sounded too bizarre to be true.
But he talked of a young man he knew on said Bizzare trip, someone by the name of Kakyoin, but never why he was so important to Jotaro.
Shuffling my hands through my pocket, I felt the loose yen in my pocket.
"Only a hundred? damn."
Maybe I could go and steal my old man's wallet again, it's not like doesn't have money to spare.
"Oh- Josuke!" a voice yelled, a very familiar one. Turning to who owns the voice I mumbled, "eh- Oh. Hey Koichi!" I waved, greeting my smaller friend as he came to a panting halt near my legs. "O-" He wheezed, making a huffing noise he got his composure together, lightly clapping his hands together. "Okuyasu is looking for you! He said he wanted to talk to you about something so he sent me to look for you at the hotel!"
"What did Jotaro need you for thats so important you had to see him?"
I blushed, rubbing the back of my neck as I slowly sighed in defeat.
There's no point trying to lie, besides, I can trust Koichi.
"Hey... Koichi, can I tell you a secret?"
Koichi perked his head up, looking at me as he tilted his head slightly. "Sure Josuke, what's up?"
I turned, looking around to see if anyone was nearby, I gently grabbed Koichi's uniform, dragging him slightly to the side. "Koichi I- I kinda.. like Okuyasu."
Koichi blinked, trying to mentally process what I said.
"Oh."
"OH."
He started laughing, shoulders shuffling as he chuckled lightly. "Oh, is that all? Yeah, it's pretty obvious."
"WHAT?!" I screamed, blushing hard before realising I just yelled, covering my face. "You knew?! Who else?"
"I mean- Yukako knows, so does Rohan-sensei.."
I sighed, rubbing my eyes. "Of course he knows. Does- Does Oku.. know?"
Koichi looked down, putting a hand to his face as he teetered his head slightly. "I don't think I can answer that Josuke." He smirked, walking out of the little passageway I dragged him to, I followed slowly. "What do you mean you can't?!"
"I mean that you're going to have to ask Okuyasu yourself if you want the answer."
He had a point if I wanted to know It would be wise to just ask the person. But this was Okuyasu, he was my best friend, and as much as I loved him, I felt too onesided to suddenly go up to him and announce my love expect things to go smoothly. I nodded, a little sad with the conclusion I came to in my head. "Where is he now?"
"At Tonio's, I think. He was looking-"
"Ok thanks, Koichi!" I yelled, giving him my thanks in a small wave as I dashed off to the restaurant. Speeding past buildings and accidently bumping into a few people, I made it down the familiar pathway to the restaurant, huffing as I slumped the last few feet to it. I stopped.
Okuyasu was there, hands gently placed on his hips as he looked back and fourth down the road, after word got out that there was a new rich Italian restaurant in our tiny Morioh, people flocked to it. Watching strangers, and even some familiar faces walk in and out of the tiny shop, Okuyasu still stood out in the crowd.
He was quite handsome, and a lot of people who mentioned or talked about Okuyasu at school said otherwise, such as his scars were ugly or unattractive. I could remember the times where he would ask me, in tears, to heal him of the scars. But he never really wanted me to, I could see it in his eyes that the scars on his face were just apart of him now.
And he wore them like a medal of honour, something to prove his bravery of the life he lived.
I admired that, I admired a lot of things about him. Especially the way he carried himself, despite his tragic past and life, he bounced with joy and hope that things would be better, and around him, things always did. He was an unstoppable force of positive energy, even in his low points, he always seemed to make the atmosphere a lot less heavy.
Realising I was standing in the road, I quickly hurried to the side, approaching Okuyasu with a soft blush on my cheeks. He turned, beaming as he approached me, clutching his book bag to his chest. "Oi! Josuke!" He waved, pushing past people he stood in front of me. "Heya buddy!"
"Hey man." I waved sheepishly back to him, smiling as I stuffed my other hand into my pocket, "I've been looking all over for you Jojo!"
I paused my thoughts, blushing hard and red at the nickname. "Really?! Jojo?!" I yelled, giving Okuyasu a small flick on the head as he laughed. "It's not any better than the nicknames you give me!"
"If you say so, Oku," I smirked, putting my arm around Okuyasu's as he put his around me, walking with him in sync out of the crowd and busy sidewalk as we marched alongside each other to a less deserted area, we separated and sat down on the sidewalk. Just across from each other I felt my hand scoot near his as I sat against the wall. Okuyasu dug into a small paper bag he was carrying, pulling out a carefully wrapped sandwich.
I felt my stomach groan, causing me to lean into it as I tried to muffle the sound with my arms.
"Don't worry brosuke!"
I groan, rolling my eyes. What a stupid nickname.
"I made you one too." He smiled, pulling out an extra sandwich as he stuffed his face with his own. Holding the carefully made sandwich as it spilt out the sides, I smiled, blushing lightly as I thankfully took it. "Thanks.." I muttered, unwrapping the sandwich and taking a bite I whined into the taste, "So good! This is amazing Okuyasu!"
I laughed, chomping into the sandwich I noticed Okuyasu was staring, but not out of any ill-intent, his face was red and his mouth still full of food.
"You- Like it?" He asked, tilting his head to the side as he spoke with a mouthful of food, "Course I do man!" I gave him a light tap on the shoulder, continuing to chew my way into the prepared meal. Okuyasu only smiled, tapping me back on the shoulder with a soft "boop" to add.
"I love you, man."
I froze, mouth hanging open as I looked back to Okuyasu. "Huh?"
I heard him, or at least, I think I did. The words seemed to travel in one side but not quite make it, like it was refusing to process what was just heard and if he meant it, but I just smiled and brushed it off, swallowing my food and shrugging. "I love you too dude."
"No- I really mean it, you've like, really helped me since big bro died."
I looked down at my sandwich, then back up Okuyasu, his face was red but littered with crumbs around his mouth, "Okuyasu." I spoke quiet and soft, placing my hand on his shoulder I tugged at his uniform, "This was supposed to be me confessing! not you!" I shook him, both laughing as we pressed our foreheads together, my hair pushing upwards.
"So you-"
"Duh! I even asked Jotaro-san for help!"
"You did!?" Okuyasu exclaimed, shocked as he continued to laugh, only to slow down and lean in to kiss me. My whole body leaned into it without even realising what had happened, it was like an instinctive thing, like it was just meant to happen. Closing my eyes into the kiss I felt my hand slide to his, only to break the embrace shortly afterwards.
"Hey.. speaking of Jotaro-san.." Okuyasu murmured, pointing off to the crossroad a few blocks away.
Jotaro was standing at the cross path, hands buried in pockets with a lit cigarette. "I wonder what he's doing. Come on!"
Okuyasu hopped to his feet, bookbag and sandwich in hand, completely acting like usual like we didn't just kiss, but I assume it's just Okuyasu being himself, and I followed behind slowly. Finishing my sandwich as quickly as I could, we both watch Jotaro walk around Morioh, keeping his usual cool and stiff composure. Looking frantically around as his pace slowly rushed, we eventually stopped at a distance from him.
Watching him sit down at a small park bench by the ocean, we shrugged slightly. "Maybe he's just out for a walk?"
"No, it's Jotaro-san, things are never really as simple as that with him," I muttered, sneaking in closer behind a bush as Okuyasu followed behind. Watching Jotaro pull out a newspaper and cross his legs, a young, red-headed stranger soon approached him.
"Jojo?"
He lifted his head, standing up quickly he dropped the newspaper, watching it fall to the ground with a soft thump.
"Nori." He coughed, clearing his throat as he lovingly took the stranger into his arms. "It's been too long."
Just barely we could hear them, smiling and holding each other they kissed, Jotaro pushing into the smaller figured stranger.
"Jotaro-San!?" I yelled, popping up behind the bush as I tipped over, landing into the pavement with an admittedly loud crack, with Okuyasu tumbling behind me. "You have a boyfriend!?" Okuyasu yelled, standing up and helping me to my feet.
"Did you two-" Jotaro howled, growling as he approached me. "Oh stop it, Jojo." The redhead spoke, pushing past. "This must be the Josuke you talked about."
"Hard to believe anybody else would sleep with Mr Joestar." He muttered, getting lightly smacked by Jotaro on the shoulder, "I'm Noriaki Kakyoin." He held his hand out, separating me from Jotaro's grip, I sheepishly took his hand only to pause.
He was wearing a ring, a very nice ring. Too nice to just be accessory.
"You're married?! to-"
I stopped, slowly looking to Jotaro as he rolled his eyes, muttering "good grief" under his breath.
"YOU'RE BOTH M-" Okuyasu screamed, only to be cut off by my hand covering his mouth. "You never told them?"
Jotaro shrugged, placing his hand around Kakyoin and the other in his pocket. "Did I have to?"
Okuyasu licked my hand, which caused me to punch him lightly in the face, grumbling as I wiped my hand on my uniform, "I- We're really happy for you Jotaro-san I, just don't understand-"
"How someone could love such a big old meanie like him?" Kakyoin smiled, standing on his tippy-toes to kiss Jotaro on the cheek, who swore under his breath. "Honestly I find it unbelievable too, that even after seven years he hasn't changed one bit!"
"Seven years!?"
"You never once mentioned me?" Kakyoin hissed playfully towards Jotaro, putting his hands on his hips. "Anyways, how did that advice go Josuke?" I blush at this question, rubbing the back of my neck.
"We kissed," Okuyasu said proudly, grinning as I slapped his chest, causing him to wince and laugh lightly. "Yeah, we did." I blushed more, rubbing the back of my neck. Kakyoin beamed, grinning madly as he pulled me in for a hug, pushing his glasses upwards. "Congrats!"
"You know Josuke, gramps was no different than you."
I narrowed my eyes at Jotaro, "Huh?"
Kakyoin let go of me, returning to the comfort of his husband's side. "Well, this." He pointed to himself, then Kakyoin, then me and Okuyasu. "Is very common in the Joestar family, bizarre isn't it?"
"Maybe I can tell you of the Zeppeli's later."
"Anyways! I want to see this lovely Morioh you've been telling me about Jojo, maybe Josuke and Okuyasu can help a bit." Kakyoin clapped his hands together, beaming as Jotaro took him under his arm, cuddling into each other as they walked. Jotaro was profusely red and embarrassed but making no effort to pull away from his lover. Slowly following behind with Okuyasu, I felt my hand slip into his, intertwining our fingers together as we walked not too far behind Jotaro and Kakyoin.
His advice didn't work the way I wanted to, but I was happy with the end results.
