Chapter Text
Jung Hoseok was only 4 when he started to realize the world was different. He was born as an omega. He was the sunshine of his family. He was always smiling. And it was contagious. Even though his family was less than middle class, they always smiled with their little boy around.
The first four years of his life were carefree. His parents were farmers who sold produce in the market at the kingdom center. And when they weren’t farming, they were dancing.
Hoseok’s father being able to play a fiddle and his mother dancing to whatever he would play. Hoseok would be two when he started trying to imitate what his mom was doing. How she moved and how she smiled. He learned to love dancing through them.
He danced till he was four. His mother had to stop dancing because he learned he was going to be a big brother. He was confused. Why did that mean she had to stop dancing? Not even his father picked up his fiddle. Infact, he was working harder. He was always farming and selling produce. Hoseok didn’t understand. Even as his mother’s stomach grew bigger everyday, Hoseok didnt know why things were changing.
It wasn’t until his baby brother was born, Hoseok began to see the harsher side of life.
Right away, the doctor announced that his baby brother was an alpha. Hoseok never even heard the term till now. But his parents were beyond happy. Almost relieved.
He was fine with his brother who his mother named, Jungkook. But everyone that met him praised him. Not that he didnt mind. But that meant that Hoseok received the cold shoulder.
“Its a shame their first born is an omega.”
Hoseok learned that he was an omega the hard way. With family members or strangers speaking about him behind his back. As he got older, he realized that everyone was judged by their class and status.
Not only wasn’t his family rich, they were poor. Family owned farming businesses were going out of business when the king created his own farming business. He claimed, he wanted to help the citizens of his kingdom by providing them only the finest foods for them to purchase. But all it did was turn already hard working families poor.
With his family at the bottom of all classes, his father and mother tried to get jobs working for their king. His dad as a soldier and his mother a servant. Both getting denied because of their status. His father wasn’t an alpha. He was a beta with an omega wife. But that wasn’t the deal breaker. The dealbreaker was Hoseok.
Familys that didnt have a beta as the head of the household we’re expected by society to produce alpha offspring to help continue the bloodline and their race as humans. So Hoseok being the first born and an omega made their family a laughing stock of their side of town. So when Jungkook was born, people began to respect them for creating an alpha child.
But even that didnt make his mother dance again or his father play again. They focused on providing for the family. Finally they got the jobs they sought out for in the first place. And things started to look up.
But it was temporary.
Hoseok’s father died on the line of duty. Serving his king. Hoseok didn’t understand until his mother started sobbing. But he shed tears at their little funeral they had for him.
Not long after, His mother died from a heart attack. Hoseok truly believed she suffered from a broken heart. Leaving Hoseok and Jungkook alone. Hoseok was ten and Jungkook was six.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The rest of Hoseok’s life was a blur from there. With his parents having connections in the castle from their jobs, Hoseok and Jungkook weren’t homeless. They were brought in to be trained as servants. The two brothers could only agree they didnt have any other choice.
While they were thankful, they were scared. At least the king was kind enough to have them educated in a classroom. They were put in a small class. Everyone there looked the same. They were scared and helpless. They were all orphans like them.
Hoseok sat with his brother in the corner desk as the other kids quietly talked amongst each other at their own desks.
“You’re in my seat.”
Hoseok looked up. He saw a boy no older than him standing with his arms crossed and a slight annoyed look on his face. “Um, this isnt assigned seating if I remember.”
“Its my seat. I can sit where I want, and I want to sit there.” He said firmly. Everyone quieting down to see what was going on. Jungkook was quick to stand up so he and his brother could move somewhere else. But Hoseok held his hand and a
Pulled him back down.
“I’m not moving. We got here first. So we get to sit here.” Hoseok stood his ground. Earning a few gasps from other students.
“Come on Yoongi, lets just sit somewhere-“
“No Namjoon. These brats need to learn their place.” The boy growled a bit. He was obviously an alpha.
“I don’t need to learn anything. You dont have any power over me.” Hoseok furrowed his brows. The young alpha suddenly grabbed his shirt and pulled him close so their faces were close.
“That’s enough Prince Yoongi!!”
Everyone turned to see their teacher had finally arrived. “A future king doesnt start fights. Surely you know that by now.”
“Prince..?” Hoseok whispered as Yoongi let go. The alpha shooting him a glare before sitting next to where his friend Namjoon sat in the front.
Hoseok held his chest a bit. A bit scared that he just disobeyed royalty. Maybe they could have his head for this.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hoseok sat next to Jungkook. Thankfully they had their beds next to each other in the large room shared with other students.
“I wanna go home Hobi...I miss home..” Poor little Jungkook cried. “I miss mom and dad.” He sniffled. Hoseok held his hand tightly. “I miss home too. I miss them too...B-But this is our home now. We’re lucky to be living in the castle.” He sniffled. Jungkook only cried while leaning on his brother.
The door opened suddenly, making the two brothers flinch. Two others they saw from the classroom entered. One being that Namjoon guy, and the other was someone else.
“Oh. Its the new kids!” The other student spoke. “Nice job standing up to Yoongi. Only brave souls can handle that.”
“I...I didnt know he was a prince…”
Namjoon snorted. “Not just a prince. He’s the prince.” Hoseok and Jungkook shared a confused look.
“Joon, They’re new. Obviously they dont know much about this place.” The other spoke. “Yoongi and Jimin are the princes of this castle. But Yoongi is the first born, an alpha, and the heir to the throne.” The other spoke smiling proudly.
“I didn’t know… will he have me executed? Or tortured or something?”
The two bursted out laughing. “I’m sorry, thats too funny.” The other spoke.
“Listen. Yoongi is still like us. He’s a student and has no power over us. Plus he’s not that cruel. Just a little spoiled.” Namjoon smiled. Showing off his cute dimples.
“I’m Soekjin. But Jin is easier. I didnt get your names earlier.” The handsome boy spoke holding out his hand. “Oh. I’m Hoseok, and this is my brother Jungkook.” The younger boy hid a bit as the others looked at him.
“My brother is about Jungkook’s age! Teo years older but, Maybe you guys can be friends.” Jin grinned. “Glad you guys could join us. Its been getting a bit boring here. We all only know each other from the orphanage. So seeing new faces is nice.”
Namjoon sat down. “Are you guys from another kingdom? You weren’t in our orphanage at all.”
“No. We...Were living with our parents. They had jobs in the castle. Then they...they died.” Hoseok said sadly. Making the mood grim.
“Oh… Oh god im sorry..” Jin said. “Hey...its okay. Everyone here is a family. So you’ll fit right in.” He patted his back.
Jungkook clung onto Hoseok more. While they said they were welcome, this was a still a new place for them.
The mood changed when Jungkook’s stomach growled loudly. Hoseok’s following as well. Its been a few days since the two had a proper meal. They just realized how hungry they were.
Jin and Namjoon laughed. “We figured you two would be starving. We actually came to find you. Dinner is starting and you were the only ones not there.” The aloha spoke.
Jin stood up. “You can sit with us.” He smiled. Hoseok blushed as how handsome he was.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It took a couple of weeks before Hoseok and Jungkook settled in and got used to their new lives. Jin and Namjoon making it easier for them. As promised, Jungkook met Jin’s brother Taehyung. Indeed they were close in age so the two had no problem getting along.
Upon meeting Taeyhung, Jungkook had the privilege of meeting and befriending Prince Jimin. A short little boy radiating beauty. He shared his brother’s platinum blonde hair and had a smile that could light up any room. He was also, a talented singer and dancer. In their music lessons, he was always put at the front and given the main roles for singing. But what interested Hoseok the most, was his dancing. He was still learning but he could see, he was on his way to being a professional.
Hoseok never had lessons. He only remembers what his mother showed him very young and from watching adults dance at festivals. But he knew he loved it.
One day when he was wondering the halls, he spotted an empty room. The young omega looked around to see if anyone was near. When the coast was clear, he cracked the door open. He gasped when he realized, it was a ballroom. A ballroom for parties, dinners and most importantly, Dancing.
He smiled and walked in. The light shining through the large windows made everything shine. He imagined a party being held in here. An orchestra playing music and everyone dressed all fancy. And everyone was dancing.
He started moving his feet first. Watching their form to make sure he was getting it right. Just like his mom. Just like Jimin. He then worked on his upper body. He had to look proper, right? He closed his eyes as he desperately tried to remember what his father played back then. Once it all came back to him, he smiled and started dancing.
Just keeping his eyes closed, he wanted to remember his home. And dancing with his mother. he knew he was dancing right now. But he didnt care if it looked nice or not. He wanted to have fun like that again.
“Mama..” he said out of breath of as he suddenly ended his dance his his hand extended up. A single tear falling down his face. He took a second to catch his breath. And looked down at his reflection on the floor.
Clapping pulled him out of his thoughts. He gasped and faced the door he came in through. The first born Prince standing there clapping with a smile on his face.
“I didnt know you were a dancer.”
Hoseok turned red as he collected himself and sped to the door to leave. “S-Sorry I shouldnt be here.”
“Wait!”
Hoseok flinched. Maybe now he was going to get punished.
“I’m sorry..” the omega turned when he heard that from Yoongi.
“I like sitting in the back during boring classes. So i was upset when you took that seat.” He admitted.
“I should have listened. Its my fault.”
“No. Thats not the king I want to be. I don’t want people to be afraid of me.”
Hoseok looked up to see Yoongi looking at him. “Its okay. I forgive you.”
Yoongi smiled softly. “...So you dance. My brother loves it. I never cared for it. Its too much energy. Plus, I’m not good at it.”
“Well...I’m not a dancer. I just...my parents and I danced for fun when I was younger.” Hoseok explained looking away.
“Of course you’re a dancer. No one gets that good overnight.” Yoongi laughed. “Teach me what you know.”
Hoseok’s eyes widened. “No. Im not a dancer.” Yoongi furrowed his brows. “Then..show me how you do it.”
The omega paused for a second. “Okay…” he stood in front of Yoongi. “Well, when dancing together, adults usually hold hands like this..” he said taking the prince’s hands in his own. “One is always leading. Usually its a male alpha. But i’ll lead right now.” He said getting in the right position.
“Fair.” Yoongi mumbled. “Then...There’s like a count to it. We dance to the counts. 1, 2, 3...1, 2, 3..” he started moving along with Yoongi. Both looking at their feet.
“1, 2, 3…” Yoongi repeated. He followed Hoseok’s movements. He looked up at see Hoseok smiling softly. Even though he was looking to see if they were doing it right. Yoongi liked his smile, considering he only saw him scared most of the time.
“You’re doing it Yoongi.” He praised and smiled. Yoongi snapped out of his thoughts and grinned. They were spinning for a while before finally running out of breath and laughing. That was the most fun Yoongi has had in awhile.
Hoseok still holding his hands as they looked into each other’s eyes. Seeing the prince like this…
“Yoongi!” A voice boomed.
The two flinched and faced the front door. Yoongi’s father, the King himself, was standing there. Obviously looking upset with what he found. “You have your music lessons right now. Lets go.” He said firmly.
Yoongi looked at the omega in front of him. “Thank you..” he nodded before letting go of his hands and walking towards his father. The king shot Hoseok a glare before walking off with his son. Leaving Hoseok to stand and think about what just happened.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ever since dancing with Yoongi, Hoseok couldn't get his mind off the alpha. He imagined that Yoongi was under a lot of pressure. Which is why no one saw him doing what he wanted most of the time.
But according to Namjoon, he broke the rules quite a lot. He was still young after all. He wouldnt have to start royal duties till he was fifteen.
Meanwhile, Hoseok and Jungkook definitely got used to life here. They were learning quickly that they were lifetime servants to the castle. Something they weren’t completely pleased with. But they had no choice since they had nowhere else to go on their own. So they would settle till they were old enough to leave.
For the most part, Jin and Namjoon helped them settle comfortably. They too were servants. Namjoon specifically was chosen by Yoongi himself as his personal servant. But really, Yoongi wanted friends. And Namjoon was his best friend right now. So Namjoon had access to some luxuries as a personal servant. Nicer clothes, He shared them with his friends as well.
Namjoon, Jin and Hoseok were early teenagers when they started working. Learnings the in’s and out’s of the castle. Cleaning, cooking and helping their royal masters.
Hoseok dreaded the day he’d see his brother in this uniform. His childhood ending.
Hoseok learned that the King was feared. One slip up and he wont be happy. He wanted best for the Kingdom. But that often stressed him out. So the King was more often then not, stressed.
So the stress got to Hoseok. He had knew he couldn't slip up considering he was serving the royal family at dinner.
“Don’t be nervous. Its just a small political meeting and then dinner. Nothing crazy.” Jin reassured Hoseok as he helped chop vegetables for the dinner they were preparing.
“Its a meeting to discuss international trades! Of course it’s important.”
“We’re just serving them food. Not putting on a show.” Namjoon chuckle.
“Speak for yourself, you always drop something.” Jin teased. “Dont remind me..” Namjoon sighed.
Hoseok laughed a bit at their interactions. They were growing closer as they grew older and Hoseok could tell, they trusted each other.
The meeting went well and Dinner was going smoothly. The king was successfully closing deals on trades and everyone was relieved to see the king at ease. No one more relieved than yoongi.
Hoseok managed to meet his eye and they gave each other a smile.
The omega was gestured to come over and help pick up plates and take them to the dishroom. Hoseok nodded and walked over. But what he didnt see, was some food on the floor that Namjoon might or might not have spilled earlier and no one noticed. As he walked over he stepped on it. He gasped as his foot slipped and he lost his balance.
The room filled with the sounds of the many plates and glasses crashing and shattering on the floor. Hoseok had fallen and Jin was there helping him. But when they both looked up, they were horrified. Hoseok had managed to accidentally spill leftover food and wine on the King’s lap and torso. Hoseok feared for his life at that moment.
“Damn Omega..” he started quiet before standing up to tower over Jin and Hoseok. “Damn Omega!” His voice boomed throughout the room. “I knew I shouldn’t have hired your parents. Worthless peasants who left me with their worthless son.” He growled raising his hand to strike Hoseok. The omega braced for impact as he closed his eyes.
He heard a hard wack but felt nothing. He opened his eyes to see someone standing in front of them. “...Yoongi?”
Indeed, the prince had jumped between them and taken the blow from his father. “You said you wouldn’t cause a scene, father.” Yoongi growled. His face beginning to bruise from the hit.
The King scoffed and turned to jin and Hoseok. Both omega’s flinching under his gaze. “Get him out of my sight.” He said firmly.
Jin helped Hoseok get up quickly and rushed him out of the dining hall.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“You didnt tell anyone you spilled an entire bowl of pasta?!” Jin shouted towards Namjoon.
After getting cleaned up, Hoseok sat on his bed with his head in his hands. Namjoon explained how it all happened and Jin was furious.
“I-I thought it was out of the way. I didnt think he’d walk on it. I-I’m sorry Hoseok.” He apologized nervously.
“Well now the King knows exactly who he is and he wont hesitate to kick him out! Hoseok And Jungkook dont have anywhere else to go.” Jin panicked.
“No he wont.”
All three servants turn to the front door of their shared room. Yoongi standing there with his arms crossed. “My father will not be laying another hand on you. I made sure of it.” He smiled softly.
“Oh god. Your cheek..” hoseok stood up walked closer to see the pigmented bruise on his cheekbone. Turning black and blue. “Its okay. I’ve had worse from horseback riding.” He grinned. Hoseok frowned as he looked over it. He caused that. Yoongi shor Namjoon and Jin a stare before the two left the room to give them privacy.
“You really dont have to worry about it.” Yoongi said sitting next to him. “I caused this. If I didn’t drop everything-“ “Actually, its Namjoon’s fault.” He laughed.
“I’m serious! You got hurt!” Yoongi’s face softened as he reached over to push Hoseok’s bangs out of his face.
“Better than you getting hurt.”
Hoseok froze from that statement. He didnt realize his face was red till Yoongi chuckled a bit. “Get some sleep. Don’t worry about my father. I can deal with him.”
“Okay...Goodnight.” Hoseok said softly.
“Night.” He smiled walking out.
Hoseok sat there in silence. Maybe life wasn’t all that bad. If a spoiled prince like Yoongi can be that kind, then anything is possible.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hoseok knew things were different when it came to their secondary sex. Alpha’s were leaders and fathers, Beta’s were in between and a omega’s were the lower class and had the babies. Simple right?
As he got older, he realized that it wasn’t that simple. He was reaching sixteen years old when he realized his body changing. Mostly in his hips. He had to change is uniform a couple of time while growing more. But the scary noticeable changes came when Jin was acting funny.
It was a normal day and they were cleaning the dining hall when Jin started to slow down. His movements became longer and he appeared more tired.
Suddenly while mopping the floor, he dropped the mop and leaned on the wall for support.
“Jin?!” Taehyung gasped as he ran to his brother.
“Its hot...so hot…” jin breathed. He was starting to sweat a lot.
“Jin whats wrong?” Hoseok asked walking closer. Then he smelled it. His scent intensified by a thousand and the other sign. The smell of what was probably slick.
Jin was having his first heat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hoseok hated this. He knew it was bad but not this bad with heats. Jin was locked in a private room with an older omega servant to make sure he was fed and hydrated. All they could do was wait.
Hoseok learned all this time was that life was cruel. But he could handle it.
