Chapter 1: The Start

Chapter Text

Jimin didn't really know how it started.

He woke up one day feeling something, but he just couldn’t put a finger to what that feeling was. He opened his eyes and felt like everything was going by slowly. He rolled over in bed multiple times trying to put it off as exhaustion, only to give up with a groan of annoyance. He picked up his phone, squinting at the brightness.

6:02AM.

Jimin frowns. Thinking back on how he slept late scrolling through Instagram, twitter, hell even the news until 2 in the morning because he couldn’t fall asleep. And now he’s awake at 6 in the morning?

He groans as he flops back onto his back. He picks his phone back, checking his chat with Taehyung. The lack of the number ‘1’ at the corner of his message tells him that Tae read it. Jimin had asked him on Thursday whether he wanted to hang out over the weekend, and with how it’s a Sunday, the answer must be a no then.

Jimin chuckles to himself. Even his best friend is too busy to answer him, what is he even doing. Staying in when there’s no class, going out when there’s only class. Even then, making bare minimum interaction with others. Saying the occasional ‘Hi’ and ‘Bye’ to his classmates, saying his order to the barista at Starbucks.

“Wow, I really need a life,” he whispers to the dark room.

It’s not like he doesn’t want to talk to people, makes friends wherever and whenever. That’s more of Taehyungs forte. He thinks a million times over just to ask someone a question, what more start a conversation. He’s not like Taehyung, who can make people give a second glance because of his face. He’s not like Taehyung who can start a conversation with the freaking Uber driver.

No, he’s not like Taehyung, and he’ll never be.

Maybe that’s what Taehyung has been doing, hanging out with his classmates, his colleagues, and other friends. While Jimin stays in bed, eating instant food for the past three days waiting for a response from him. A simple text saying he’s busy would be awesome, instead of just leaving him there, waiting for god knows what.
“Some best friend huh.” He says aloud before he drifted off to sleep.

When Jimin next woke up, it was a little after noon. He laid on his back, staring at the ceiling for a solid five minutes, (maybe ten he’s not really sure) before he got up and dragged himself to the bathroom. He washes his face, brushes his teeth by instinct. He stares at his bloated face, the result of eating instant noodles before going to sleep – he thought to himself. His hands inches down slowly, to his chin – wait, since when did he have a double chin? He brings his hands down to his tummy and notices the hint of fat.

He drops his hands and looks at the mirror, dismissing the thoughts.

“Time to get things done today then.”

‾‾
He finds a seat near the corner, next to the window at the campus Starbucks. He put his things down, sitting for a moment to observe the café filled with students trying to get their assignments done. He begins to unpack his things, before grabbing his wallet and making a beeline to order as he spots Seokjin manning the counter.

“Hey Jimin, the usual?”

Seokjin hyung is the senior barista at the campus Starbucks, and Namjoon hyungs boyfriend.

“Hi hyung, I think I’m getting Cold brewed coffee today,” He chuckled.

“Long night yesterday Jimin?” Seokjin asks with a mischievous glint in his eyes.

“Nah, didn't sleep well , and I have to finish my assignment as much as I can,” Jimin says while keeping his card back in his wallet.

“That’s rough. Is Namjoon dropping by today?” He beams as he prepares Jimins drink.

“We don’t have study session this week. Next will be on Wednesday, I think?” He ends it off as a question, rather than a statement.

“You ok there, Jimin?” His voice filled with concern, as he hands Jimin his drink.

“Yeah. Just didn’t sleep well. Thanks for the drink, hyung.” Jimin says as he walks back to his seat.

‘Well, at least someone care.’ He thought to himself as he settles down.

‾‾
It was nearing closing time when Jimin realised that there were only him and a two other students in the café. He stretched out his body, with a loud groan when he realised that Taehyung had finally, finally answered him.

From : Tae
hey chim, sorry I was busy and didn’t realise your text.
9:34PM

maybe we can meet up tomorrow after your class? You end at 3 right?
9:46PM

let me know so I can plan out my day tomorrow!!!!
9.57PM

To : Tae
Yeah, I end at 3 tomorrow. Meet up at campus Starbucks at around 3.30?
10.42PM

Jimin sighs as he dropped his phone on the table, and started to pack his things. Tomorrows gonna be as if he didn’t ignore me for three days, and talk my ear off with his problems. That’s how its always been.

‾‾
That night when Jimin looked at himself in the mirror, he realised he didn’t eat anything that day. He beams.
“Maybe then, someone will look at me twice.” He mutters as he exits the bathroom.

‾‾
It was nearing four, and Taehyung is nowhere in sight.

Jimin sighs as he checks his phone.

To : Tae
Hey, we’re still meeting up right?
3.37PM

wya, I’m here.
3.43PM

If you’re not here by four, I’m leaving.
3.52PM

All unread. Its 2 minutes to four, and Jimins packing his things up when someone stood in front of him.

“Oh hey kook, what are you doing here?” He asked as he hefted his bad on his shoulder, with his drink in one hand.

“yeah, bout that. Tae told me to inform you that he can’t come because… something came up.” Jungkook told him as he scratched his head.

“yeah? why don’t you tell Taehyung, to check his god damn phone and answer my texts once in a while.” Jimin hisses as he passed by Jungkook.

Jungkook grabs Jimins wrist to stop him from walking, “well he’s busy, you know that too what with drama and assignments.” Jungkook defended.

“Look, I know you’re his boyfriend and all, but do you think he’s the only one with assignments and practice? Just let him know to now put my hopes up, just to crush it and waste my time.” Jimin spits as he tugs his hands away.

“tell him to call me when he actually is serious to meet up, preferably by himself. What’s the use of having a phone when he never uses it.” Jimin mutters to Jungkook as he walks out.

He could tell it's gonna be a long week, and its only Monday.
