Work Text:
Dazai stares at the words scribbled at the corner of the Latin book. He bought it at a second hand bookstore so it was probably the previous owner who wrote the words, but he has no idea what it means. His Latin is excellent, which is why it annoys him that he doesn’t understand the meaning of those words. When he says it aloud, a bright blue light suddenly consumes the room, and Dazai’s thrown into a state of panic as he covers his eyes.
When he reopens them, there’s redhead standing in the room. He looks as bewildered as Dazai feels. It’s clear that he hasn't noticed Dazai at all.
“Erm, excuse me.”
The redhead lets out a shriek and jumps backwards. He whirls around, blue eyes flashing winter white like an ice cube got lodged in his eyes.
“Where am I?” the redhead demands.
Dazai pushes his glasses up and says plainly, “earth.”
“… Like the human realm?”
The professor stares at the redhead, wondering if he had hit his head or something.
“Yes.”
“… You! You summoned me!”
“Wait, what? What do you mean I summoned you?”
“I’m a demon! And you summoned me.”
Dazai snorts. Politely. The “demon” folds his arms.
“I’m Nakahara Chuuya.”
“Didn’t ask. Look, if you’re done with your prank, go away. I have work to do.”
“No! You have to send me back!”
“And how do I do that?” Dazai asks, figuring that playing along is the best way to get rid of this kid.
“… I don’t know. But at least tell me your name!”
“Dazai Osamu. Now, leave.”
“I can’t!”
“Are you seriously expecting me to believe that you’re a demon?”
Chuuya doesn't say anything. He snaps his fingers and a fox appears in the room. It looks normal enough, with snow-white fur, but its eyes are blood red and its teeth are frighteningly sharp. Dazai inches away as he stares at the creature with wide eyes.
“Corruption!” Chuuya exclaims happily as he pets the fox that purrs docilely in his hand. He smiles at Dazai and flicks his hand. Nothing happens. He frowns and tries again but still nothing happens.
“A circus is coming to town next week,” Dazai drawls.
“I don’t know why my powers aren’t working on you!” Chuuya snaps.
Dazai sighs. “Look, I don’t have time…”
Dazai trails off as Chuuya’s eyes become frozen white and he raises his hands. The once clear sky immediately turns dark. Lightning and thunder appear in quick succession. When Chuuya’s eyes clear, the sky returns to normal. He looks at Dazai expectantly. The human groans and turns back to his books.
“Well, start reading then! I want to send you back too.”
Chuuya harrumphs as he sits beside Dazai and grabs a book.
“It’s nice meeting you too,” he snipes.
Dazai turns and smiles brightly, the corner of his eyes crinkling.
“You’re really pretty for a demon.”
“Shut the fuck up!”
But there’s a light flush on Chuuya’s face as he turns away.
