“I’m Shane. Hollander. Vampire hunter,” He was certain this stranger wouldn’t be scandalised but when he held out his hand, he just stared at it, unimpressed.
“Ilya Rozanov,” he introduced himself, then flashed Shane a wicked smile, “vampire.”
Shane hunts feral vampires. Ilya is a vampire, but Shane's not interested in hunting him - he wants something far more dangerous. Ilya drives Shane crazy, swooping in and stealing his kills, and Shane threatens everything Ilya knows about hunters. "Poor planning on your part then. You married me even though I’m boring, and now you’re stuck with a boring husband who won’t go out on your death trap.”
“You are boring, and we are married. Boring is not bad. I like being boring with you,” Shane huffed and shoved Ilya’s shoulder.
“I’m not boring! I have lots of hobbies! I play in the NHL! How is that boring?” Ilya shrugged.
“Name one hobby you have that is not hockey.”
Shane flipped him off in response, “I do yoga. That’s a hobby.”
“Fine. Now name fifty more,” Shane’s curse was cut off by a firm hand on the back of his neck pulling his lips into a kiss.
Ilya cupped the back of his head, moving their lips together until Shane’s frown was wiped clean and he couldn't help but grin.
“Stop trying to distract me. You’re an asshole,” he pushes up from the couch, “and I’m not getting on that bike.”

"You can’t be serious,” he says, but his voice lacks conviction, because everything about this situation suggests that the man is very serious.
Hands push him forward, downward toward the opening.
“Get the fuck in there,” the man says.
Shane resists for a second, instinct flaring. He turns around to give the man a piece of his mind, but the fucking gun is there, right in his face, and Shane is back to breathing manually again. The man is wearing a balaclava, worst of all, which means Shane could’ve looked at him at any point, have tried to escape at any point, and his fear about seeing the man’s face wouldn’t have mattered at all.
“Okay, okay,” He says breathlessly, and he turns around once more, looking appraisingly down at the crate. So he’d go in there. He’d be alright. He’d comply with the man with a gun, and everything would be fine. There probably wasn’t anything this man wanted that Shane couldn’t figure out.

Ilya had told Shane to leave because they needed space - they needed some room to catch their breath so they could talk about things properly. So they could say sorry and fix the mess they had made. But one day apart stretched into two, into three, into a week, and suddenly Shane was on the other end of the phone, saying, ”Maybe this isn’t going to work, Ilya.”
At least Ilya is good at that part; he’s an expert in being left behind.
(Or, Ilya and Shane breakup. Then the Centaurs’ plane almost crashes.)
