SPOILER WARNING for eps. Dead Drop and Vanishing Act (aka Disappearing Act).
These scenes take place after Joey is kidnapped, almost run over and finally returned to his mother. I thought it looked like he was trying desperately to hold himself together, and I also thought it wasn't fair to expect that of a 10 year old kid under those circumstances. So I fixed it. :) (Well, to be fair, I let *Blair* fix it, which lead to some good bro-moments for J&B later on.)
Oh, and Joey Abbott and his mother, Elise, are canon characters from the ep in question--not OCs. Which leads me to...

It would help to know that in the first story in this AU (Ashes, Ashes), Jim & Blair were on the run from a government agency--the Delphi Group--that wants to use Jim as a lab rat and abuse his Sentinel abilities. Now, they've been caught, and it’s not pretty.
Slash (M/M), NO lemon, DUG (Demon Under Glass) crossover, although it's not obvious yet. Shameless angst, h/c and a smattering of fluffy smarm. To balance out the Caveman!Jim in Ashes, Ashes, this time we’re serving a main course of InControl!Blair with a side of Vulnerable!Jim.

This is the first of three AU stories in what I call the Delphi-verse, simply because I never came up with a better name and it becomes a DUG (Demon Under Glass) crossover in story 2. The second story in the series, We All Fall Down, is either up already, or will be as soon as I get it formatted. All the Delphi stories can stand on their own, but they do invite the reader to explore the others.
Fair warning--Jim is not exactly Mr. Nice Guy in this one, so Blair *really* has his work cut out for him. (And gets some Jim-inflicted bumps and bruises along the way.) If this squicks you, back away while you still can! If you're hesitant, don't worry--it all works out in the end.
