    He wakes in the dark. The cold chills him to his bones. He blinks and blinks, but his eyes see nothing but green. Glow-in-the-dark stars. They line the ceiling in clusters. He sees the shapes for what they’re supposed to be. Which constellations they try to mimic. He’s tired. Bone-deep exhaustion weighs him down—his body aches.

     

    Still, he tries to sit up, stretching his arms. Instead, his head thumps against something hard. He blinks his eyes rapidly, trying to adjust to the dark. Hesitantly, he lifts a hand to feel around him. Tries to stifle the rising panic as he realizes he’s in a box—a coffin.
