Summary
The wind shrieks and howls as a figure makes his way through the storm. Though the shadows that obscured his escape have long faded, the blowing snow provides just as much cover. Blood spatters the tracks left behind him as he pushes past drifts of snow knee high, but the trail is obscured in minutes as the storm continues to blow fresh layers of frost onto the ground. The only concern of his is that for once, the trail of blood he leaves is entirely his own.

a good desc. pending. mirage becomes the sole fixation of an ancient, deadly vampire, and must balance its placation with keeping his dear friend and employer nashala safe. the story cuts between a lot of the characters and the tension created by having an ancient horror stalking the streets of your hometown. more news at 9. expect potentially slow updates bc im important at work. but also i am kind of honestly writing this shit on the clock shhhhhh...

Summary
Mirage was unusual by most vampire hunter standards, both in Europe and the United States. Perhaps the most damning reason was that he had no vendetta against vampires, really.
It was the first unspoken rule of vampire hunters. Don't ask how they got into the profession. From the Venators of St. Benedict, to the Vampirdzhiya, it was always a stupid question to ask because you'd never get an optimistic answer. At best they hunted vampires because someone they knew died to one and the worst of it was never disclosed. The answer was only seen through worn eyes and distant stares into the night.
But if you were to ask Mirage why he became a hunter, he'd simply laugh and tell you, "I serve the Djinn. And if the Djinn wants me to kill vampires, then it shall be done."

The Patron's magic prevents him from hunting Mirage, but that just leaves Drifter with the pleasure of learning how interesting a tin soldier can be. When Mirage gets injured and Nashala is taken, Drifter offers to save her - but not for free.
Mirage's heart is beating so hard, so fast, Drifter thinks he should be able to see it. As it is, aside from his breath coming in shallow skips, Mirage doesn't react to the thing trying to escape his chest. He only lifts his eyebrows, proving just how unimpressed he is by Drifter's threats.
Mirage might be an honourable man, but he is so very far from being an honest one.
