Summary
After the First Age ended in fire and flood, Maglor Feanorion, the last survivor of his house, became a wandering musician. For the rest of his life, he sang by the seashore, telling the story of his people and their fall from grace.
Well. He tried.
Maglor’s problems begin when he is discovered by Elrond, his foster son and accidental hostage. (It’s a long story.) Instead of exacting revenge on his kidnapper, Elrond sends Maglor on a quest with four strange hairy-footed children, a disgruntled dwarf, the long-lost heir to the throne of Gondor, a man named Boromir, and a pretentious wizard.

A daughter.
Alta must have gotten pregnant just before he left. She hadn’t gone to Formenos with them. (Maglor can still remember her standing at the gate of their house in Tirion, telling him there was no way in hell she’d be following Fëanor into the middle of nowhere, “and you shouldn’t either, Káno. You deserve better than this.”) So by the time the Trees were killed, she must have known.
How had she done it? How had she raised a child when everyone else in Tirion was stumbling around in the dark, waiting for the world to end? And how has Maglor missed it?
Legolas and Gimli exchange panicked looks. “It will… be okay?” Legolas says haltingly. “Or not. Possibly not. I don’t know. I don’t have any kids.”
