Comment on A Love Like That

  1. Yes, absolutely! The found family trope is so satisfying... maybe it’s the appeal of being able to form such meaningful connections with someone you’re not related to by blood, maybe it’s just the amusement that comes from watching characters with opposing personalities trying to fit together like pieces from different puzzles, but either way, I will never tire of it. Avengers Assemble is so domestic in the way it portrays these larger than life characters — they’re superheroes, sure, and they fight crime and do impossible things, but they also goof off together and play video games and have barbecues on the roof. As contrasting as they are, they understand each other & work so well together that it makes my chest ache. Truly, AA is (in my humble opinion) the best Avengers iteration.

Oh, Tony. He’s my favourite character and I adore the way AA portrays him — as a flawed man, yes, but learning to be better & growing as a person thanks to the support of his team. Even when the Avengers split up, it wasn’t because they had anything personal against him, they just felt he wasn’t fit to lead (a thought mirrored by him at the very beginning of the show, which I found interesting). Steve in particular has been a constant source of encouragement for him, and a lot of Tony’s development is largely due to Cap’s complete and utter faith in him — we seldom have an episode focusing on Tony without Steve hovering by his side. It’s easy to see why people ship them! That being said, Tony’s dynamic(s) with the other characters are just as compelling. I particularly enjoyed the first few episodes after the Avengers split, because it was interesting to see how those who had stayed with him were reacting. Thor believed in Tony’s ideals, that there were no rules in war, but Clint was a bit more intriguing — he didn’t care much for rules either, but he also admitted to still trusting in Tony/having faith in him. He recognized the toll that taking down Ultron had had on him and reassured him that they weren’t going anywhere. For Clint, I feel like his sticking by Tony was less a matter of his leadership skills and more an act of loyalty; he acknowledged that Tony must’ve been struggling and stood at his side, despite Tony’s many mistakes (and I guess Clint would know about mistakes, considering his past. Seriously, I just want my two boys to bond... ;-;).

Anyway!! I’m not sure if this made sense or if I’m just rambling, but this is already longer than what I was planning on writing so I’ll just leave it there haha. And yes of course I marathoned your fics! Your stories have made me both smile at my screen like a dork and spiral into a pit of depression (but like... in a good way?). You’re such an amazing writer; keep up the great work!! <3
