Team grew up in a world where your birthmark represented your soulmate and Team was pretty sure he didn't have one.
He knew he had a birthmark, knew what it was, but it wasn't until he was in his teens that Team started questioning what it meant.
Team’s parents took him to see a few professionals, each of them saying the same thing. Team's soulmate must have died.
Team was discouraged after that, thinking he'd be alone forever as he looked at the angel winged shaped mark on his arm.
Team spent many years explaining that his soulmate was dead when people would ask, always getting the same look of sympathy. He hadn't expected uni to be any different.
The first few days of school went by easily. He made new friends and met his professors. Even his tryout for the swim team went well.
The president of the club, Dean, was impressed with his times and informed him once the vice president arrived, he’d be coaching him.
Win arrived an hour later, apologising for getting held up. He quickly changed into his shorts and jacket before making his way to Dean.
They chatted for a few minutes before they watched Pruk call a few names, those boys making their way to the pool for a race.
Win watched one boy in particular move towards the pool, he couldn't seem to take his eyes off him.
Win had wondered over the years who his soulmate could be. His mark was very vague in that it was of a swimmer, which could literally be anyone in the room. Win always knew somehow that he hadn't met that person yet though, and he definitely had some people try to convince him otherwise.
"Who's that?" Win asked, pointing at the boy.
"That's Team, he's here on a scholarship. Fastest guy we're seen so far," Dean told him.
"How fast?" Win questioned. Dean titled his clipboard to show Win the numbers, the blonde boy raising his eyebrows in surprise.
“Damn, he is fast." Win said, taking a better look at the younger boy. “He’s cute too.”
Dean fixed him with a look and he held his hands up in surrender as he laughed.
Pruk blew his whistle and the other seniors and first years watched the boys in the pool.
It was obvious to everyone that Team was in the lead, a considerable gap between him and the boy in second place.
Win was impressed to say the least, he wouldn't be surprised if this guy went pro.
"Fancy a race after?" Dean asked, a competitive glint in his eye.
"You're on," Win smiled.
Team's hand hit the wall and he pulled his head out the water, taking a breath to see he'd come in first place.
He removed his goggles and lifted himself out the pool, the other first years crowding round him. A chorus of congratulations and telling him how cool he was heard around him. He smiled shyly at the attention.
"Hey, Team?" Someone spoke, catching his attention.
"Yeah?"
"What's that on your arm?” They asked.
Team looked down at his mark, trying not to let his sadness show. “My soul mark."
A few people got closer to get a better look before someone shouted. "Hey, Team's soul mark looks like P’Win’s tattoo!”
Team's head snapped up, eye's instantly zoning in on what everyone else was looking at.
After studying his mark every day since he could remember, Team knew every inch of it. What he was seeing now as the blonde boy across the room removed his swim jacket was his mark.
Team's eyes went wide, the older boy turning around with a confused look after he obviously heard the statement.
Their eyes locked and Team couldn't help it but he found himself relaxing. The tension left his body as they continued looking at each other, a small smile ghosting the seniors lips.
Team was surprised to say the least. He'd gone the last few years thinking his soulmate was dead to then meet him on his first day of uni. This was definitely not how he saw this day going when he woke up this morning.
